Hello Everybody!
Welcome back to my channel! It's been a while since I've uploaded and this time, I went museum hopping with my friend! I personally prefer the Folk Museum way more than the National Museum purely because I like to learn more about cultural aspects of history. What do you guys prefer to learn about? We also made a quick stop to Shinsaegae Department Store and visited the Reebok and Andew stores to admire SHINee's Taemin and Minho. I hope you enjoy!

INSIDE SOUTH KOREA, Gwangju ajummas. 광주 아줌마.
Inside South Korea 4, Gwangju ajummas . Short videos of moments of life in South Korea. 2017/2018.
Dance as if nobody is watching you. This was shot on the main Street of Gwangju, during a festival. 3 women were dancing in the middle of the street, at the sound of old Korean EDM music. They had so much fun that it was contagious. ajumma means middle age woman in Korean. It's usually used quite pejoratively because ajummas are known for their lack of manners, loud talks, and rudeness. But it can also be used with pride, celebrating the late freedom from the very heavy sexist social constraint of be nice and beautiful that young Korean women have to endure for years. In a way, Ajummas free the punk that they didn't know they wanted to be when they were younger.

Cultural events in Gwangju on sidelines of 2019 World Aquatics Championships
광주세계수영선수권대회 맞아 열리는 다양한 문화행사
We are nearly a week in to the world aquatic championships in Korea's southwestern city of Gwangju.
The city's under the global spotlight, and with so many people in town for it, there's a big variety of cultural events to enjoy on the sidelines.
Lee Min-sun in Gwangju with more.
At Gwangju's Nambu University, the main venue for the 2019 World Aquatics Championships, promotional booths have been set up with various cultural programs for visitors to experience and learn more about Korean culture.
Gwangju and its surrounding Jeolla provinces are well known in South Korea for their local delicacies.
For international visitors to get a unique taste of Korea,... a local traditional food organization has prepared an exhibition displaying ceremonial table settings for various rites of passage.
Since Gwangju is hosting an international sporting event, we prepared traditional ritual tables for everything from birth celebrations to wedding ceremonies so we can promote Korea's food culture. Locally-prepared food and seven dishes that represent Gwangju were selected. I hope visitors taste all of them.
The booths are not for eyes only, visitors can also enjoy some hands-on experiences.
Athletes here for the championships can get a unique glimpse of Korean culture, scoop up some souvenirs and more importantly: take home some unforgettable memories.
We are from germany and we are water divers. We had chance to look around maybe have a view of the culture and what it’s different to Germany our home country. It’s very interesting to have look to the other culture you have here.
Between the competitions we have little bit of time to go out in front of the pool and can see lot of things what they do here and we got some gifts from Korea. I really like it to go around the pool.
Visitors can also chill at an outdoor beer festival and enjoy Korean street food from food trucks at a nearby convention center.
The beer festival will run throughout this weekend and for another week in August.
Dance and music performances are also lined up at the athletes' village and at other main venues during the weekends.
Local artists have also put together an art exhibition to celebrate the 2019 World Aquatics Championships being held in their part of the world.
An exhibition called Dive Into You displays around 40 paintings and art pieces by 13 emerging artists from the area to celebrate the international event.
Young artists channel their imagination and artistic flare to give international visitors a clearer idea about what Gwangju and its people are all about.
This art exhibition will run until July 28th at Eunam Art Center and is open to all visitors, free of charge.

Learning about Korean traditional instruments and music
Dan Damon is a BBC Radio host and journalist specializing in global conflicts. In 2014 he visited Korea at the invitation of the Korean Culture & Information Service. It was Dan′s second visit to Korea. He developed interest in Korea when he visited the country for the first time in 2013 to cover North Korean defectors living in the South. He is currently studying for a doctorate degree in Korean unification and media in London. Dan began by studying about North Korean society but later he developed interest in the history of both Koreas, and now he wants to learn about Korean culture as well.
He is particularly fond of the Korean traditional musical instruments gayageum and geomungo, and he even takes gayageum classes in London. During his trip to Korea he wanted to visit the hometown of the gayageum and the geomungo. The first place that he visited was the Ureuk World Music House run by American musician Anna Cybele. Anna and her husband accompanied Dan throughout his journey, during which he learned about ancient string instruments dating back more than 2,000 years, folklore music, and Korean history.

Our quick visit to the museum. We had a short tour by a very kind Korean man and then explored the rest ourselves.
Arts and Culture: Arirang Festival on the Streets of Insadong
Now it's time for our daily arts and culture update with Yim Yoonhee live in the studio.
Good afternoon.
Good afternoon, Conn-young.
We had some beautiful weather this past weekend here in Seoul, which made for a perfect time for festivals. What were some of the most popular ones?
This past Saturday an Arirang festival took place in Insadong here in Seoul.
Just to clarify...this festival is named after Arirang, the traditional folk song that's often considered an unofficial anthem of Korea.
This all takes place in Insadong, which is a hotspot for traditional Korean culture.
It's a festival that celebrates Korea's traditions while ushering the new spring.
Let's take a look.
A shining symbol of tradition in Korea, the car-free, pedestrian-filled spring streets of Insadong also usher in the Arirang Festival.
The festival kicks off with a street parade led by a group playing the daechwita.
Drawing heads, and following behind the guards, were those in royal hanboks from the Joseon Dynasty.
But the real star of the show were the children daechwita musicians.

The 2014 Insadong Arirang Festival was held outside and had several venues that took part of the open-air environment.
Another popular performance was the hanbok fashion show featuring local residents as the models.
To add to the excitement of the festival, special magician guest Lee Joon-hyung showcased a creative performance for the festival.
The Taepyeongmu Dance also delighted the crowd with its quick steps, showing off the traditional Korean art.
And finally, the long-awaited Arirang performances An opening by a Korean traditional ensemble helped to spark the curiousity of the crowd.
Following that, was Miryang Arirang, which is a performance that represents the gyeongsang-do provinces.
A performance by Gugak star SONG So-hee and a children's choir fill the streets of insadong with the song, Arirang.

Like Insadong, there are some 20 cities all over Korea that hold festivals themed around Arirang. And the traditional folk song's popularity only grew after it was inscribed on the UNESCO list of intangible cultrural heritages.
[STUDIO]
There are so many variations of Arirang but it seems everyone is agreed upon the fact that it represents Korea and Korea's traditional history.
I know that Insadong was recently remodeled.
Yes and this festival celebrated the opening of the new Upper Insadong street which was expanded to 2 times the previous size.
Now there's even more room for all of the museums and activities that take place there.
Now, I heard there was another Arirang Festival this past weekend as well.
You're right.
There was a festival that took place in New York this past Saturday as well.
It was another Arirang Festival that was created to promote the inclusion of Arirang into UNESCO's program of Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The festival involved performances by some very famous Korean artists and musicians as well, including a congratulatory message by UN Secretary General Ban-hi Moon.
We'll be sure to keep an eye out for more Arirang related events.
Thank you for today.
Always a pleasure.

Asia Culture Center Grand Opening in Gwangju
아시아문화전당 개관식
The grand opening of the Asia Culture Center took in place in Korea′s southwestern city of Gwangju on Wednesday.
The venue aims to help to boost the country′s status as a cultural powerhouse... by promoting cultural development and exchange of Asian culture.
Kim Ji-yeon was there.
An array of performances ranging from Korean folk Pansori, a musical, ballet, opera, media art, and flying dancers on wires were presented at Gwangju′s Asia Culture Center grand opening on Wednesday.
The performance shows the goal and vision the center′s promoting... which is cultural convergence... the creation of art and culture that transcends genres and boundaries.
″The venue is expected to promote the development and exchange of various Asian cultures. To do this, it plans to promote cooperation with other Asian nations by providing assistance, and engaging in diverse joint projects.″
The center is accommodating some 20 teams of Asian artists participating in its residency program.
They have access to the venue′s facilities including its state-of-the-art equipment, 4-thousand square-meters of studio space, a theater, and exhibition space.
Five research labs for the development of cultural technology will also be set up... enabling an ideal test bed for new cultural content.
During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn hoped the center will help achieve the government′s goal to improve the country′s status as a cultural powerhouse.
″The Asian Culture Center will promote the government′s initiative of the creative economy and cultural convergence, which will help generate a synergy effect in creating jobs and boosting the local economy.″
Constructing the 160-thousand square-meter building.... took 11 years costing more than 610-million U.S. dollars.
It was built near a preserved, provincial government building,…the site of the 1980 May 18th democratic uprising against the country′s dictatorship.

South Korea: Gyeongju - King Munmu's Tomb
I visit the charming and ancient city of Gyeongju, once the capital of the ancient Silla kingdom in South Korea. Here we are at what looks like a typical beach but in the background is a rocky islet - the underwater tomb of King Munmu. He was king back in 661 A.D. and had unified the three kingdoms of Korea. Before his death he gave specific instructions to be buried in a floating tomb so he could return as a dragon and protect his people and country...
Korea's Lunar New Year traffic to and from Seoul
설날 귀성길 교통
It has begun.
The mass exodus started on Friday in Korea, as people head to their hometowns for ancestral rituals... and spend time with their families for Seollal or... Lunar New Year's day.
The official holiday period runs through Wednesday.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation as of midnight Saturday, some 420-thousand vehicles are expected to have left Seoul and adjacent areas.
The journey to Busan is expected to take around 4 hours and 20 minutes.
Gwangju bound drivers and passengers could be on the road for 3 hours.
A half hour longer to get to Daegu.
Drivers headed to Daejeon need only stay behind the wheel for an hour and a half.
Red-eye drivers will be spared from the agony of super slow traffic, but congestion is expected to peak by Saturday morning
