Dubai City 2019 Burj khalifa United Arab Emirates
Dubai city 2019 Burj khalifa United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates (/juːˈnaɪtɪd ˈærəb ˈɛmɪrɪts/ (About this sound listen); UAE; Arabic: دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة Dawlat al-Imārāt al-'Arabīyah al-Muttaḥidah), sometimes simply called the Emirates (Arabic: الإمارات al-Imārāt), is a federal absolute monarchy sovereign state in Western Asia at the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south, as well as sharing maritime borders with Qatar to the west and Iran to the north. In 2013, the UAE's population was 9.2 million, of which 1.4 million are Emirati citizens and 7.8 million are expatriates.[8][9][10]
The country is a federation of seven emirates, and was established on 2 December 1971. The constituent emirates are Abu Dhabi (which serves as the capital), Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain. Each emirate is governed by an absolute monarch; together, they jointly form the Federal Supreme Council. One of the monarchs (traditionally always the Emir of Abu Dhabi) is selected as the President of the United Arab Emirates. Islam is the official religion of the UAE and Arabic is the official language (although English, Urdu and Hindi are widely spoken, with English being the language of business and education particularly in Abu Dhabi and Dubai).
The UAE's oil reserves are the seventh-largest in the world while its natural gas reserves are the world's seventeenth-largest.[11][12] Sheikh Zayed, ruler of Abu Dhabi and the first President of the UAE, oversaw the development of the Emirates and steered oil revenues into healthcare, education and infrastructure.[13] The UAE's economy is the most diversified in the Gulf Cooperation Council, while its most populous city of Dubai is an important global city and an international aviation hub.[14][15] Nevertheless, the country remains principally reliant on its export of petroleum and natural gas.[2][16][17]
The UAE's rising international profile has led some analysts to identify it as a regional and middle power.[18][19]

Before & After the Union of the Emirates, How?
Established in 1971, the United Arab Emirates is a relatively young Arab country that has experienced a huge surge in prosperity in recent years. Guided by wise leadership, the economic boom has fostered a stable, cosmopolitan society that has successfully integrated traditional Islamic values into a determined development programme, enabling the country to take its place amongst the emerging nations of the world.
Physically, the UAE is a land of contrasts: massive sand-dunes, fertile palm-filled oases, vast stretches of mesmerising desert, low-lying coastal plains, sandy beaches, hundreds of natural islands, and rugged rocky mountains are just some of the dramatic landscapes encountered in its territory.
Politically, the UAE is a federation of seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ra's al-Khaimah and Fujairah) with a constitutionally-based political system that is a unique blend of the traditional and modern. Abu Dhabi City is the capital of the UAE and the seat of the federal government. HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, is the current President of the UAE and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, is Vice President and Prime Minister.
The Supreme Council, made up of the hereditary rulers of the seven emirates, is the top policy-making body in the state, whilst a Council or Cabinet of ministers, four of whom are women, acts as the executive authority for the federation. The UAE's parliament, the Federal National Council, a section of which is indirectly elected and nine of whose members are women, has both a legislative and supervisory role. In addition, each of the seven emirates has its own local government, the complexity of which differs according to the size and population of individual emirates.
Although a comparatively young nation, the UAE has taken its place on the world stage, guided by a principled foreign policy that is based on support for and engagement with international institutions such as the United Nations.
When the federation was formed in 1971, the UAE had little or no physical infrastructure, health care or educational facilities, industry was non-existent and most of the country's scant population lived in the desert or in the foothills of the mountains. It has come a long way since then: rapid urbanisation has been the norm (over 80 per cent of the country's residents live in major towns and cities) and the UAE's infrastructure is world-class.
Rich natural resources in the form of oil, which was first exported in the 1960s, has enabled much of this prosperity: today, the UAE boasts a vibrant free economy and successful efforts have been made to diversify away from dependence on oil and gas exports. So much so that a solid industrial base has been created together with a very strong services sector, enabling the country to meet the challenges and opportunities of the new era.

Dubai Promo 2015
This is a Promo for the city of Dubai.
Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates known for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture and a lively nightlife scene. Burj Khalifa, an 830m-tall tower, dominates the skyscraper-filled skyline. At its foot lies Dubai Fountain, with jets and lights choreographed to music. On man-made islands just offshore is Atlantis, the Palm, a resort with water and marine-animal parks.
One of the world's fastest growing economies,[105] Dubai's gross domestic product is projected at USD 107.1 billion, with a growth rate of 6.1% in 2014.[106] Although a number of core elements of Dubai's trading infrastructure were built on the back of the oil industry,[107] revenues from oil and natural gas currently account for less than 5% of the emirate's revenues.[10] It is estimated that Dubai produces 50,000 to 70,000 barrels (7,900 to 11,100 m3) of oil a day[108] and substantial quantities of gas from offshore fields. The emirate's share in the UAE's total gas revenues is about 2%. Dubai's oil reserves have diminished significantly and are expected to be exhausted in 20 years.[109] Real estate and construction (22.6%),[12] trade (16%), entrepôt (15%) and financial services (11%) are the largest contributors to Dubai's economy.[110]
Dubai’s non-oil foreign trade stood at $362 billion in 2014. Of the overall trade volumes, imports had the biggest share with a value of $230 billion while exports and re-exports to the emirate stood at $31 billion and $101 billion respectively.[111]
By 2014, China had emerged as Dubai's largest international trading partner, with a total of $47.7 billion in trade flows, up 29% from 2013. India was second among Dubai’s key trading partners with a trade of $29.7 billion, followed by the United States at $22.62 billion. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was Dubai’s fourth trading partner globally and first in the GCC and Arab world with a total trade value of $14.2 billion. Trade with Germany in 2014 totalled $12.3, Switzerland and Japan both at $11.72 billion and UK trade totalled $10.9 billion.[111]
Historically, Dubai and its twin across Dubai Creek, Deira (independent of Dubai City at that time), were important ports of call for Western manufacturers. Most of the new city's banking and financial centres were headquartered in the port area. Dubai maintained its importance as a trade route through the 1970s and 1980s. Dubai has a free trade in gold and, until the 1990s, was the hub of a brisk smuggling trade[31] of gold ingots to India, where gold import was restricted. Dubai's Jebel Ali port, constructed in the 1970s, has the largest man-made harbour in the world and was ranked seventh globally for the volume of container traffic it supports.[112] Dubai is also a hub for service industries such as information technology and finance, with industry-specific free zones throughout the city. Dubai Internet City, combined with Dubai Media City as part of TECOM (Dubai Technology, Electronic Commerce and Media Free Zone Authority), is one such enclave, whose members include IT firms such as Hewlett-Packard, EMC Corporation, Oracle Corporation, Microsoft, Dell and IBM, and media organisations such as MBC, CNN, BBC, Reuters, Sky News and AP.
The UAE culture mainly revolves around the religion of Islam and traditional Arab culture. The influence of Islamic and Arab culture on its architecture, music, attire, cuisine and lifestyle are very prominent as well. Five times every day, Muslims are called to prayer from the minarets of mosques which are scattered around the country. Since 2006, the weekend has been Friday-Saturday, as a compromise between Friday's holiness to Muslims and the Western weekend of Saturday-Sunday.[174]
The city's cultural imprint as a small, ethnically homogenous pearling community was changed with the arrival of other ethnic groups and nationals—first by the Iranians in the early 1900s, and later by Indians and Pakistanis in the 1960s. In 2005, 84% of the population of metropolitan Dubai was foreign-born, about half of them from India.[93]
Due to the touristic approach of many Dubaites in the entrepreneurial sector and the high standard of living, Dubai's culture has gradually evolved towards one of luxury, opulance and lavishness with a high regard for leisure-related extravagance. Annual entertainment events such as the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) and Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) attract over 4 million visitors from across the region and generate revenues in excess of $2.7 billion.
