Hong Kong (China) Travel - Lantau Island
A pictureseque island that has Asia's tallest outdoor seated buddha and an ancient monastery.
We are in Lantau, the largest island in Hong Kong and one of my most favorite. Lantau Island is famous for beautiful scenery, but its main attraction is the Big Buddha and that is where we are headed right now. On the way we can see the Big Buddha in the distance. We are not there yet, we have to climb these steep steps to get to the top. The statue we see is 34 meters high, and Asia's tallest outdoor seated Buddha. There are other smaller statues around here, and a fantastic view of the surroundings.
Underneath the Big Buddha is an exhibition hall and a museum, but no cameras are allowed. We are at the entrance of the Po Lin Monastery, which was built in 1970. Inside the monastery are a number of beautiful shrines and figures of gods. Fresh fruit is a common offering to the gods. This is the Po Lin monastery canteen, where they serve vegetarian meals only. People are lighting joss sticks here, which is part of the Buddhist religion. This is Rosanna Wilcox, showing you Hong Kong.
Hong Kong : Star Of China - Documentary
Laser beams shoot skywards, prolonging the angles of skyscrapers set in neon. Over the bay, the heavy sails of a junk reflect the flashing colours, while streaks of light glisten in the wake of the Star ferry. Fascinating. Throughout the documentary, Pierre Brouwers dazzles us with the power of his images and the passion with which he explores a city whose ambition is to serve as a benchmark for Asia.
City-planning and architecture. The cinema. Feng shui. Chinese medicine. Tai-chi.
Tea houses. The Star ferry. Horse races. Sound and light shows. The mid-Autumn

Lan Tau Island, Hong Kong, China
The last full day I had in Hong Kong, me, my aunt, and our friend went to this place.
Note to viewers:
I'm not Buddhist.
This video doesn't reflect how I reacted with my faith, it reflects how I reacted with coming to a peaceful place.
This area was very beautiful and harmonious.
I used this song because it was the only one I had downloaded on my computer. My other songs are on another computer.
Enjoy.

This ex-bodyguard is making a killing thanks to Hong Kong unrest | Blue Mother
Months of violent protests have landed a heavy blow to businesses in Hong Kong. But for Clement Lai, a former elite bodyguard, the unrest has been a boon. His private security firm has been in high demand as the anti-government demonstrations in Hong Kong have intensified, underscoring the increased volatility of the unrest and fears of violence in the Asian financial center. Formerly a close protection officer in the Hong Kong Police Force’s...

Hong Kong - City Video Guide
Located on China's south coast, Hong Kong offers some of the world's most intense shopping, sightseeing and dining experiences, yet moments of stillness await at every turn.
Hong Kong has over 600 places of worship, from neighborhood temples to hilltop monasteries.
Shopping is almost a religion too! From opulent malls like Pacific Place to the markets of Temple Street, tax-free Hong Kong is heaven for bargain hunters.
From Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, hop aboard a Star Ferry for the crossing to Hong Kong Island. Explore the futuristic architecture of Hong Kong's main business district, Central, then take a tram to Victoria Peak.
Hong Kong offers plenty of green spaces, such as Kowloon's Walled City Park. Outside the urban areas, over forty percent of the territory has been designated as national park.
Spend a day on the tranquil beaches of Shek O, or hike the trails of Lamma Island. On Lantau Island take the cable car to the Po Lin Monestry and the Tian Tan Buddah, then explore the traditional fishing village of Tai O.
At the end of the day, cruise the bars and restaurants in fashionable Soho and Lan Kwai Fong.

Fishwatching: Tung Chung Stream, Lantau Island, Hong Kong
Tung Chung Stream and its river valley on Lantau Island are possibly the last remaining relatively (a small section has been channelised) intact catchments in Hong Kong. Although the area is a stronghold for several species of rare animals and ecosystems, it remains under the ever continuing threat of destruction from Hong Kongs insatiable appetite for urban development.
In this video – part of my fishwatching series – you can sit back, relax and enjoy the underwater world of a pool along Tung Chung stream. There is no editing, it is just one continuous clip; just like if you were to sit in front of a fish tank for a few minutes and enjoy a morning coffee break.
The fish that can be seen in the video are:
Predaceous Chub (Parazacco spilurus)
Beijang Thick-lipped Barb (Acrossocheilus beijiangensis)
Swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii) – introduced from Central America
There are also some fleeting glimpses of loaches/gudgeons.
The Thick-lipped Barb is a special fish and can be distinguished by the presence of five to six vertical bands on its creamish yellow body. It has a very restricted distribution in streams and rivers on Lantau Island and Hong Kong and as such it is listed as a rare species. It is thought to have been introduced to Hong Kong by a water company bringing water from China. It is regarded as an indicator species for good quality water.
Due to it's high biodiversity and importance, there have been several articles written on Tung Chung Stream/River, it's ecosystems, and the threat posed to them. Some of these are listed here:

Free Camping on Hong Kong's Best Beach (Sai Kung)
BEAUTIFUL white sand, and blue tropical waters is why Tai Long Wan has Hong Kong's best beaches. ????️ Did I mention waterfalls and rock pools. And that's why it's a perfect place to go camping, away from the madness of the city. Let's go!
I did a weekend trip to this slice of paradise in the Sai Kung Country Park during the 2019 Qing Ming holiday weekend, which was a great way to spend the weekend in Hong Kong, where I live.
Check it out, and feel free to ask any questions in the comments below if you want more info.

Mui Wo Lantau Island HONG KONG
Mui Wo is a rural town on the eastern coast of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The main beach in Mui Wo is known as Silver Mine Bay. The history of Mui Wo dates back to the last days of the Southern Song Dynasty. Mui Wo is located on Silvermine Bay, so named for the silver mines that were once worked along the Silver River which flows though the village. The nearby Silvermine Cave was mined for silver during the second half of the 19th century. It has since been sealed off for safety.

Way Out West - Blue
Tian Tan Buddha, also known as the Big Buddha, is a large bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, completed in 1993, and located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. The statue is sited near Po Lin Monastery and symbolises the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and faith. It is a major centre of Buddhism in Hong Kong, and is also a popular tourist attraction.
The statue is named Tian Tan Buddha because its base is a model of the Altar of Heaven or Earthly Mount of Tian Tan, the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. One of the five large Buddha statues in China, it is enthroned on a lotus on top of a three-platform altar.
Surrounding it are six smaller bronze statues known as The Offering of the Six Devas that are posed offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit, and music to the Buddha. These symbolise the Six Perfections of generosity, morality, patience, zeal, meditation, and wisdom, all of which are necessary for enlightenment.
The statue is 34 metres (112 ft) tall, weighs over 250 metric tons, and was constructed from 202 bronze pieces. In addition to the exterior components, there is a strong steel framework inside to support the heavy load. Reputedly the figure can be seen across the bay from as far away as Macau on a clear day. Visitors have to climb 268 steps to reach the Buddha, though the site also features a small winding road for vehicles to accommodate the handicapped. The Buddha's right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction, while the left rests open on his lap in a gesture of generosity. He faces north, which is unique among the great Buddha statues, as all others face south.
There are also three floors beneath the statue: the halls of the Universe, of Benevolent Merit and of Remembrance. One of the most renowned features inside is a relic of Gautama Buddha, consisting of some of his alleged cremated remains. Only visitors who purchase an offering for the Buddha are allowed to see the relic, entering to leave it there. There is a huge carved bell inscribed with images of Buddhas in the show room. It was designed to ring every seven minutes, 108 times a day, symbolising the release of 108 kinds of human vexations.
