EPISODE 4: OREGON MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry first opened in 1896. Back then it was called the City Hall Museum. In 1949 businessman Ralph Lloyd hosted the temporary “Oregon Museum of Science and Industry” in his house. It was the Northwest's first public planetarium.
By 1955, annual attendance at the House had swelled to more than 25,000 but the house was set to be demolished to make way for a new hotel.
The foundation eventually found the land they needed at Washington Park and in 1957 got more than 400 volunteer workers to raise the walls of the new building in one day. But that building still could not hold the roughly 600,000 annual guests. So, in 1992 the building expanded.
Today, the museum serves over 1 million annual visitors.
Shortly after erecting the new building in 1994, the OMSI opened the USS Blueback for public tours.
The Blue Back was the last decommissioned electric diesel submarine in the US Navy Fleet.

Massive Museum of Science & Industry Model Train Railroad RR HO H.O. Scale Gauge Layout trains
Over 7000 Diecast Model Cars
Visit:
On 9-26-15 at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, I videoed a unbelievably complete model version of Chicago’s buildings and landscape in H.O. Scale / Gauge Model Railroad RR train layouts. The main lines head West to Seattle WA, where there is a small version of those buildings in that City.
Every area on the layout is complete. Many areas have buttons to push so Visitors can have an interactive experience with an area of the layout. The engines, cars, and scenery on the layout are of the highest quality, all add realism, and just a wonderful experience to view.
This is just amazing!
Enjoy.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

Hoyt Arboretum, Portland Oregon
The Hoyt Arboretum is located atop a ridge in the west hills of Portland, Oregon, United States. It was founded in 1922[1] by a collection of timber industry representatives, the U.S. Forest Service, the Portland Parks & Recreation department, and enthusiasts.
The 187-acre (0.76 km2)[2] (76 ha) arboretum hosts just under ten thousand individual trees and shrubs of more than eleven hundred species from all over the world. Most have labels identifying common and scientific names and region of origin.
The arboretum has twelve miles (19 km) of trails (two of which are suitable for wheelchairs), a visitor center, an indoor classroom with seating for 40 people, a picnic shelter and a meadow. Volunteer tour guides have been available since the 1970s.
The arboretum is located two miles (3 km) west of downtown Portland within Washington Park, and close to the Oregon Zoo, and the International Rose Test Garden. The Arboretum is open to the public and accessible at several points from Washington Park or from the Macleay Trail in Forest Park. The volunteer-staffed visitor's center is located at the center of the park where visitors can find information about the park and its trees; the visitor's center is also the starting point for periodic volunteer-guided tours.
Of note is the Dawn Redwood, one of only a few known deciduous conifers (needle and cone bearing trees that lose their leaves in the winter). The species was once thought extinct and known only in fossils, but was rediscovered in a remote valley in China in the early part of the twentieth century. The tree was reintroduced to the western hemisphere through saplings planted in the Hoyt Arboretum. The trees bear soft, short needles and have a distinctive look in that the branches seem to push out from folds in the trunk.
Museum of Natural and Cultural History 75 Years
MNCH -- Celebrating Our 75th Anniversary!
The University of Oregon's Museum of Natural and Cultural History protects significant collections, enhances knowledge, and encourages stewardship of human and natural history through research, preservation, and education.
The Museum of Natural and Cultural History (MNCH) is Oregon's primary repository for anthropological and paleontological collections. Officially created in 1935-36, as the Oregon State Museum of Anthropology and UO Museum of Natural History, the museum is celebrating its 75th birthday in 2010-11. It has its roots in 1876, however, when Thomas Condon joined the University of Oregon (UO) as one of its first three professors. Hired as a professor of natural history, Condon brought an extensive fossil collection to the UO, later known as the Condon Museum or Condon Collection. Today, as the premier natural and cultural history museum in the State of Oregon, the MNCH houses nearly 1 million ethnographic and archaeological objects and almost 100,000 fossils and biological specimens from Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and around the world. With over 50 employees, the museum is a center of interdisciplinary research, preservation, and education.
