Dubai to Sharjah in 8 minutes on new road from today. Tripoli Road.
Tripoli Road. Dubai to Sharjah road.
Starting today Wednesday, motorists travelling between Dubai and Sharjah can expect shorter travel time as the upgraded Tripoli Street is set to open, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Tuesday.
With the developments done, the 12km traffic corridor cuts the transit time between the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road to just about eight minutes.
It is also expected to reduce the travel time between the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and the Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road by 64 per cent - from 11 to 4.5 minutes.
The project will channel about 2,000 vehicles every hour during peak periods from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road and reduce the traffic volumes on the MBZ Road by 10 per cent. This will translate into reducing the trip to the entrance of Sharjah to 12 minutes, and cutting the waiting time at the intersection of Tripoli-Algiers Streets (Al Warqaa-Mirdif) from three minutes to less than a minute, said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of the RTA.
The completed road works stretched 6.5km from the Tripoli-Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road junction (near Mirdif City Centre) to the Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road, extending about 5.3km up to Emirates Road in three lanes in each direction.
Improvements covered the intersections along the road, which provides a key traffic corridor parallel to Al Amardi-Al Khawaneej Streets, as well as Al Awir-Ras Al Khor Roads.
It will improve traffic safety along the corridor, and increase the traffic flow to about 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions (6,000 vehicles per hour per direction), Al Tayer said.
The opening of the street also streamlines access to Al Warqaa and Mirdif districts.
In Focus
The project covers improvement of interchanges starting with upgrading the junction of Tripoli-Algiers Streets to a tunnel of three lanes in each direction to serve the traffic inbound from Rabat Street heading to Tripoli Street, besides upgrading the existing surface signalised junction.
It also includes upgrading the existing roundabout at the intersection of Tripoli-Nouakchott Streets into a flyover of three lanes in each direction, and the construction of a signalised junction. Works also include upgrading the existing roundabout at the junction of Tripoli Street-Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Road to a flyover.
It also covers the construction of collector roads, two underpasses for camel crossings, and widening Camel Crossing No. 3 at the Emirates Road.
Works also include upgrading the intersection at the extension of Tripoli Street and Emirates Road, through the construction of a three-lane bridge to serve the inbound traffic from Tripoli Street to Emirates Road in the direction of Sharjah.
The project also includes widening Tripoli Street at several locations, along with improvements at Bel Remaitha Club and two signalised junctions to replace existing roundabout at Muhaisnah.
