Under the patronage of General H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces
The Emirates Falconers' Club will organize under the supervision of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council the Abu Dhabi Falconry Competitions 2012in the period 29th November until the 3rd of December 2012, in line with the celebrations of the 41st anniversary of the UAE National Day.
The Abu Dhabi Falconry Competitions 2012 will be organized to reflect the keenness of our wise leadership to maintain and preserve the dear heritage of our beloved country, and to convey this type of tradition to the current generations of our country.
The Abu Dhabi Falconry Competitions 2012 also come to encourage the youth to practice this type of ancestral sport in order to maintain our traditions and our heritage.

Falconry Championship Dubai-Mekh Paija

In the past, they used to keep Falcons to support them in hunting wild animals. At present days, Falconry in Dubai is a Heritage Sport. Falcons of several species are raised and trained with great care to participate in annual championship events. High-Tech devices are used to measure the speed of flights during the contest.

Dubai Falconry - Falcon Training - Sheikh Buti Bin Maktoum - Dubai UAE (part One)

Shot in 2005 by Joe Conte this footage is the first in a 3 part series of Falconry footage shot of Sheikh Buti Bin Maktoum of the ruling family. It shows his training facility in the desert outside Dubai where he trains his fledgling Falcons to hunt using mini planes and mini helicopters, very cool stuff..

The Al Maktoum family descends from the Al Bu Falasah section of the Bani Yas, a highly respected and authoritative tribal federation that was the dominant power throughout most of what is now the UAE.

The Al Maktoum family's reign as rulers of Dubai began in 1833, when Sheikh Maktoum bin Buti, and around 800 tribesmen moved from Abu Dhabi. Dubai, like most settlements in the region at that time was just a small town, but the arrival of the Al Maktoum family changed that. Dubai is now one of the most vibrant cities in the world, attracting tourists and business executives from many countries.
