Take a tour with me of Stanley - Hong Kong - arriving my minibus (theres no metro trains that service Stanley) exploring the beaches, promenade, Stanley Markets, Stanley Plaza, Tin Hau Temple and Murray House.
Stanley is located at the southern end of Hong Kong island, and is a much more relaxed costal town with beaches, the bay, promenade and markets and is surrounded by mountains. When you arrive in Stanley you will forget you are in Asia, as the atmosphere is very much western.

A Day Trip to Stanley, Hong Kong - 018
Stanley is a town on the south side of Hong Kong Island, most well known for the world famous, Stanley Market. Though it's pretty well touristed, It's a sleepy little place, and a welcome break from the pace of the city on the other side of the island.
In this video I show you around the town, pick up a few things in the market, teach you about the different kinds of Chinese clothing stores, get felt up a little bit, and a few other things.

The small seaside town Stanley at the southern tip of Hong Kong Island, is most known for its market. But the market is not the only reason you should spend some time here....

Stanley Market in Hong Kong
Stanley is a town and a tourist attraction in Hong Kong. It is a peninsula on the southeastern part of Hong Kong Island. It is east of Repulse Bay and west of Shek O, adjacent to Chung Hom Kok. Administratively, it is part of the Southern District.
The proper Chek Chue refers to the village town but Stanley generally refers to all the surrounding areas of the peninsula after the beginning of British rule and native Cantonese name Chek Chue became synonym to Stanley.
Stanley Market, a large open-air marketplace, has become well known for its bargains in clothing - particularly silk garments and traditional Chinese dress - as well as toys, ornaments, luggage, souvenirs, and Chinese arts and crafts. It is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. People are drawn here by the cheap goods that would usually fetch a much higher price elsewhere. In addition to several Chinese restaurants and a Dai pai dong, Stanley Market now also boasts its own small Häagen-Dazs shop and most recently a branch of the Dymocks Booksellers.
Stanley is renowned for its many bars and restaurants on its waterfront along Stanley Main Street where visitors can enjoy a variety of different foods (including French, Italian, American, Indian and Thai) or relax with a beer and soak up the friendly atmosphere in one of its bars.
To the west of Stanley Main Street, past the amphitheatre in Stanley Plaza is the Tin Hau Temple (Temple of the Queen of Heaven). Built by Cheung Po Tsai in 1767, it is one of the oldest temples in Hong Kong.

赤柱 Stanley Market in Hong Kong.
Stanley Market is one place that tourists must not miss. Located in the southeast of the peninsula of southern part of Hong Kong island. The infamous Repulse Bay characterized by the historical battles of the British and the pirates lie in the east. Further to the west is the rocky bay of Shek O, acclaimed with beautiful beaches and sceneries popularized by the setting of numerous Cantopop music videos. The route to Stanley is scenic. Photography is a must !!! At Stanley market, you'll be immersed with an array of street stalls and small shops that sell almost anything that you may wish to bring back to your relatives. The waterfront presents row of cafes, bars and restaurants to fill your hungry stomaches. The newly built Stanley Plaza offers another alternative shopping spree under air-conditioning for shopper's delight. Of course, you'll find cultural and historical attractions too. The Murray House. the Tin Hau Temple, the galleries of the Corrective Service Department (the Stanley Prison) are places which may of interest to you. Come to Stanley Market and you'll know that there's a lot of difference from any of the markets that you may know of. Believe me, each market has an identity and there's always a beauty in her uniqueness!!!
Stanley Market, Hong Kong, CHINA
This video was taken in 2004 but produced in 2014, highlighting the famous Stanley Market in Hong Kong, China.
Stanley Market l Hong Kong
Stanley is a town and a tourist attraction in Hong Kong. Located on a peninsula, Stanley Market is one of the must-go places for tourists when they visit Hong Kong.
You will find an interesting array of little shops selling silk garments, sportswear, art, Chinese costume jewelry and souvenirs. While a bit touristy, it will certainly help you to cross off all the items on your souvenirs-to-buy-Aunt-Jane shopping list. Finish off a morning of shopping with a good lunch at one of the many restaurants at Stanley, the reason why Hong Kong locals also frequently visit the area.
