Tour of Boulder Colorado
Boulder has been named the #1 city in the nation in Gallup's Well Being Index. It is also the most educated city in the United States. Today, I'm going to take you on a tour of Boulder Colorado my hometown. Here is my view of why Boulder is such an attractive place to call home.
The first thing that comes to mind is the lifestyle. Boulder is situated where the Rocky Mountains meet the great plains. The transition is dramatic and the geography in and around Boulder are an outdoor playground. Everywhere you look you will see people out biking, hiking, running or just enjoying the natural beauty.
Contrary to popular opinion, we are blessed with a fantastic climate. We have four seasons but over 300 days of sunshine. When we do get snow it often melts within a day. You can find heavy snow cover and cold up in Colorado's high country but on the Front Range you can enjoy the outdoors every month of the year. Boulder is a haven for world class athletes, but you don't have to be an Olympian to take advantage of the thousands of acres of open space surrounding Boulder.
Boulder's economy is strong and is sparked by the University of Colorado. CU is the city's largest employer but just as important is the innovation that has sparked a high tech and entrepreneurial boom. Boulder is known nationwide as one of the hotbeds for start-up companies. High tech, bio-tech, aerospace and renewable energy are just a few of the local industries that keep Boulder vital. We also have many government and research institutions such as NCAR, NOAA and NIST. Boulder is filled with smart people. In fact Boulder has the highest percentage of people with an advanced degree in the entire country.
Boulder's has tons of opportunities for shopping and dining. Right downtown is the world famous Pearl Street Mall but in addition to this shopping and eating area there are many smaller areas with quality food and shopping scattered all over town. The restaurants are outstanding and there is a great diversity in the types of restaurants available.
Many people who could live anywhere in the world choose to live in Boulder. People are casual and friendly. As long as you are quick to give a smile and ready to meet nice people it's easy to fit right in. Boulder has had a very stable housing market. Many years ago local tax payers decided to pay for open space through a sales tax. Thirty years later Boulder is surrounded by open space. This has made the houses and land within Boulder very valuable. Boulder's most expensive real estate is typically west of Broadway near the mountains. These neighborhoods tend to be an easy walk to downtown or to hiking trails. You will find that Boulder is made up of many small neighborhoods and the best way to get to know the different sections is to explore.
With Boulder's educated population, it is not surprising that Boulder has great schools. Boulder Valley School Districts schools consistently rank near the top in the state and offer many advanced programs and excellent extracurricular activities.
I hope that gives you a glimpse of what Boulder is all about. I'm convinced that Boulder is one of the great places in the world to call home. If you are thinking about making Boulder your next home call me, I'd love to show you around. I'm a Boulder native and have been a top producing Realtor in Boulder for 20 years. Have a fantastic day!

Scary! 14260 feet Mt Evans Colorado Drive 9 of 17 DOWN Compare with Pikes Peak
Highest auto road in the USA - Mount Evans Colorado. Prettier than Pikes Peak and NO DUST to spoil the tundra. However, most people will find that it is scarier to drive.
Neighboring towns: Georgetown, Silver Plume, Idaho Springs, Golden, Brookvale, Highland Park, Evergreen, Conifer
One of the three fourteeners visible from Denver, Mount Evans dominates the mountainous horizon west of the city. Its great sculpted eastern face greets the dawn each day, capturing the morning light. Much of the wilderness lies above timberline, and place names such as Sawtooth, Frozen Lake, and Abyss Lake offer a hint of the rugged glacial terrain that characterizes the area.
Crawling up into the wilderness, but outside the circuitous boundary, a paved road runs to the top of Mount Evans, the highest paved road in America. Abyss Lake, surrounded by fabulous scenery, rests in a rock-rimmed gorge at 12,550 feet in the heart of the wilderness. You can reach it by hiking seven strenuous miles (one way) up a glacier-carved valley.
The area's 14,000 foot peaks and proximity to Denver combine with the summit road to draw large numbers of visitors. Nevertheless, the Mount Evans Wilderness contains notable biological features, harboring not only alpine tundra, but arctic tundra as well. This is one of the few places south of the Arctic Circle, where such tundra is found. It differs from alpine tundra by virtue of its moisture, as it contains countless small pools of water. In contrast, most tundra in Colorado is dry and brittle once uncovered by snow. The Mount Goliath Natural area contains another of the region's unusual features - a prime stand of bristlecone pine. These gnarled elders of the forest often live 1,500 to 2,000 years, growing at infinitesimal rates. The trees' twisted and contorted trunks offer stark evidence of their bitter fight for survival against the elements.
Two species of animals less frequently observed elsewhere have become popular attractions here. A herd of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep live around Mount Evans, and mountain goats are frequently seen from the summit road. The vast expanses of tundra offer visitors numerous opportunities to spy more common critters, including ptarmigan and yellow-bellied marmots.

Discover our neighborhood: Boulder, Colorado
Boulder, CO has been our hometown for more than 2 years, but now it's our time to leave for new adventures (you will know more pretty soon). For this occasion, we decided to make a short video showing the main places to visit if you come to Boulder.
Boulder is located in NorthWest of Denver in Colorado, at an altitude of 5,328 ft (1,624m). This city is not famous in the United States, but actually it's very cool to live there:
• First, the climate is just right, with a great amount of snow in winter, very beautiful days in summer, cool thunderstorms in spring, and magnificent colors in the countryside in fall (which is our favorite season)
• Secondly, there are plenty of landscapes: forests, mountains, creeks, lakes, unusual rock formations, etc. Boulder is only 30min from Denver, an hour from Rocky Mountain National Park, and close to a lot of other places that you can see in our video about Colorado landscapes (here is the link: Plus, it's only a few hours from Utah which allows a lot of weekend opportunities!
• Finally, people here are very nice, relaxed. There are a lot of restaurants, shops, and places to chill. Plus a lot of sport activities such as hiking, bicycling, or climbing. Sport is really a part of the culture.
The main places to visit in Boulder are:
• Chautauqua Park with the view of the Flatirons and the Green Mountain. This is the main landscape in Boulder where people like to hike.
• NCAR or National Center of Atmospheric Research, a little bit above the city level, also popular for hiking.
• Settler's Park with its Red Rocks, at the feet of the Mount Sanitas, also popular for hiking.
• Colorado University campus with its beautiful architecture.
• Flagstaff Road with its viewpoints: Boulder Amphitheater, Realization Point, Lost Gultchman Overlook, Gross Reservoir... This road goes up in the nearest mountains and gives you views of both the city and the mountains.
• Boulder Creek, flowing across the city from West to East. Very popular for bicycling.
• Pearl Street Mall and 29th Street Mall, the main places for shopping and dining in Boulder.
• Boulder Falls, on the way to the town of Nederland.

[Wikipedia] Gold Hill, Colorado
Gold Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) in Boulder County, Colorado, United States. The population was 230 at the 2010 census. This settlement is located to the northwest of Boulder, perched on a mountainside above Left Hand Canyon at an elevation of 8,300 feet. Originally a mining camp, it was the site of the first major discovery of gold during the 1859 Colorado Gold Rush and remained an important mining camp throughout the late 19th century, with a population approaching 1500 at its height, before falling into decline. It has been revived somewhat in recent years as a quiet isolated haven, with no paved streets, but easily accessed by dirt roads. The town contains numerous historic wooden structures, some restored in recent years, as well decaying ruins from its mining heyday. It has a small museum and two-room schoolhouse, the Gold Hill School, which since 1873 has been the oldest continuously operating public school in Colorado. Other businesses include a General Store and a restored inn listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town is laid out on a small grid of dirt streets.
Gold Hill is accessible from nearby Left Hand Canyon Road via Lick Skillet Road. Easier approaches to Gold Hill include Sunshine Canyon Road from 4th and Mapleton in Boulder, Gold Run Road from Salina (on Four Mile Canyon Road), and Gold Hill Road from the Peak-to-Peak Highway (State Highway 72) south of Ward. All of these roads are susceptible to heavy snows during the winter, which at times render Gold Hill inaccessible to vehicles not equipped with chains or four wheel drive.
Gold Hill is sometimes labeled a ghost town, which is an inaccurate designation. Gold Hill is part of unincorporated Boulder County, and while it does not have a municipal government, it does have an active town meeting with elected officials.

Boulder City Nevada
Hi, my name is Jennifer, with Desert Adventures, out of Boulder City, Nevada. And, Boulder City is the town that built the Hoover Dam. Initially, when the, when the government announced the building of the Dam, workers came from all over the United States, in effort to find a job-that was during the Great Depression. Housing was not available for the workers. Before Boulder City was built, perspective workers would live in Tent City, shanty towns, one of which being, on the Colorado River, called Rag Town. Conditions were hot, unsanitary, there was some deaths due to heat-related illness. Boulder City needed to be built.
Six companies, the company that built the Dam, as well as the federal government, made it a priority to build the town for the workers to live in. What their focus was, to provide a clean living and working environment for the Dam workers. The town was designed to house approximately 5,000 workers. The status of the workers on the Hoover Dam reflected in their house sizes, and locations. The most important employees were housed on the top of the hill, near the heart of town. Managers were housed just a little bit further down the hill. And, homes for manual labourers were located further down the hill, away from the pubic buildings and parks. Boulder City was originally built as a temporary town for the Hoover Dam workers. As you can see, it's still a vibrant city today. I'm Jen, with Desert Adventures, your premiere adventure company, located in Boulder City, Nevada.
