Working as KTV Girl in Beijing | China Life Updates
Although I am not particularly proud of this experience, I should admit it was the most fun and memorable time I had in China. I reckon it’s because it was only a temporary job for me, and also because I was very lucky, but still I have no regret and I am grateful for all the fun I had, opportunities given, and people I got to meet during the job.
I am sharing my experience to let everyone know about some parts of Chinese culture, what I experienced, felt, learned and decided to do. I just hope you enjoyed listening to my story, and if you disagree with me on certain parts, let me know in the comment section. But please don't be too mean. I have feelings too.
On the legality on this job (just in case some pose question about it), if you are a foreigner and don't have a proper work visa, everywhere you go, whether it's China or elsewhere, you are working illegally. The job itself isn't banned by the government. However, I am not promoting this job whatsoever.
Wish me luck in Shanghai. If anyone is in the city, please let me know so that we could meet up!

In 1974, mainland Chinese businessman Yu Pang-lin – a billionaire philanthropist
bought the property from Golden Harvest studio founder Raymond Chow
for about HK$1 million.
Many of his properties were rented by love hotel operators, earning Yu a moniker he detested – “Love Hotel King”
Yu planned to sell the house in 2008 to raise funds for Sichuan earthquake victims in mainland China,
but scrapped the plan when fans urged him to restore and preserve it. He said he would donate it to the public for restoration.
Yu then negotiated with the government to turn 41 Cumberland Road into a Bruce Lee museum complex equipped with a cinema,
library and martial arts centre. He asked that the building’s floor space be increased to 30,000 sq ft.
However, the plans never came to fruition. After Yu and the government failed to come to an agreement on the scope and size
of the development, the museum idea was quietly dropped in 2011.
In May of 2015, the property’s owner Yu Pang-lin died of an undisclosed illness in Shenzhen at the age of 92, leaving the
fate of the property – valued at more than HK$100 million as of 2011 – uncertain.

Bread Street Kitchen & Bar | Hong Kong
There are few places in town where traditional British cuisine within a relaxed setting of vintage and modern décor can be experienced at the same time, especially in the heart of Central. Bread Street Kitchen & Bar has both – guests can relax and recharge themselves from the hustle and bustle of Central and at the same time, enjoy the exquisite British cuisine.
HONG KONG: JUDGES & LAWYERS OPEN LAST LEGAL YEAR UNDER BRITISH RULE
English/Nat
With only 169 days left before the change of sovereignty, Hong Kong held another one of the British styled ceremony to mark the beginning of its official legal year, for the last time.
Although the legal system is to remain unchanged after the Chinese takeover, many fear that the current laws will not survive under Chinese rule.
Judges and lawyers in traditional wigs and robes marched to the church Monday afternoon to open the last legal year under British rule in Hong Kong.
In less than 6 months time, these judges and lawyers will face the same legal system, but under a different government.
To them and the entire Hong Kong population of 6-point-2 (m) million, it is yet unknown whether the legal system could be fully functional under Chinese sovereignty.
After July 1st, a detailed written constitution will replace the current constitution which is based on the Letters Patent and Royal Instructions originated to late 19th century models.
Instead, the new constitution will be the first modern constitution written specifically just for Hong Kong and will be applied for the next 50 years.
Another change will be the application of a bilingual court system to replaced the current English speaking one which is widely welcomed by the majority non-English speaking Chinese.
With closer ties between Hong Kong and China, many question whether the one country two system will be feasible.
SOUNDBITE (English)
That transfer is to take place in accordance with the terms of a binding treaty between the Governments of the United kingdom and of a binding treaty between the Governments of the United Kingdom and of the People's Republic of China; a treaty which we who are its objects have ultimately few, if any, means of enforcing. Even so, we must by our
own efforts seek to ensure that the assurances in the Joint
Declaration are realised and implemented insofar as we can and, by
whatever legal means are available to us, to prevent a violation of
those assurances if a violation is threatened.
SUPER CAPTION: Gladys Li, chairman of the Bar Association
Former Chief Justice T-L Yang resigned from the post last October to run for the post of Chief Executive, Hong Kong's first Chinese governor after its handover to China but failed in the many say China's handpicked selection precess.
Deputy Chief Justice Noel Power praised the efficiency of Hong Kong's judiciary system in comparison with major cities of its size, such as London, Sydney, New York.
He also assured the people of Hong Kong that the law will stand independent after the handover.
SOUNDBITE (English)
Let me finally assure all of the people of Hong Kong that they have an independent, capable and hard working judiciary versed in the common law and that they have a judiciary which will, without fear or favor, administer that law in the coming years.
SUPERCAPTION: Noel Power, Deputy Chief Justice
However the people of Hong Kong know that there will be no guarantees of judicial independence after the handover to Beijing on June 30.
