Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail (Chinese: 元荃古道), also known as Yuen Tsuen Traditional Footpath, is a trail linking Yuen Long and Tsuen Wan in the New Territories of Hong Kong. The trail was the major trail for travelling between two major towns for villages trading their necessaries before the completion of Castle Peak Road.
The trail routes along Tsuen Wan, Tsuen King Circuit, Ha Fa Shan, Shek Lung Kung, Sheung Tong, Tin Fu Tsai, Tai Lam Chung, Nam Hang Pai and Yuen Long.

Tai Tong Nature Trail (Hong Kong)
To visit this nature trail, make your way up the Tai Tong Shan Road. Past a holiday camp and the Tai Tong barbecuearea, you will find the starting point at the far end. This walk takes about 30 minutes. The trail itself winds up and down rolling slopes all the way. Some parts of the route are wet and bumpy. It is therefore only recommended for fit hikers.
At the beginning, there are distant views of the vast Yuen Long plain and town centres of Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai. On clear days, your gaze reaches as far as Shenzhen's urban sprawl. In the stream valley, there are some caged stone retaining walls. Constructed with stones enclosed by iron grids, these walls are effective slope stabilizing devices. They can prevent rain wash and loss of soil, and the crevices are great rooting places for vegetation.
At this point, the trail meets with Nam Hang Pai Ancient Trail, which was once an important access linking Yuen Long with Tsuen Wan. Up ahead on the right, the path passes a previous borrow area. When borrowing activities ceased, reforestation got underway to recreate the verdant forests we see today. The Acacia species and Slash Pine adapt particularly well to the local dry environment. At the end of the Nature Trail, look out for plantation of a protected species - Keteleeria.

Ancient trails in Hong Kong under threat
Some Sai Kung residents have criticised the government for failing to recognise the historical value of ancient stone trails in the New Territories.
What's more, some of these trails have recently been damaged by unauthorised private parties.
