Mountain Biking the Carriage Roads in Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor, Maine
Today we are visiting the stunning Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. Much to my chagrin there is no mountain biking on the island, but of course that wasn’t enough to stop me from finding an excuse to ride. Way back in the early 20th century a vast network of crushed stone roads were built throughout Acadia National Park for the use of hikers, horse riders, and most importantly, bikers. No cars allowed thank you very much. These trails, commonly referred to as the “Carriage Roads” are in my option one of the coolest ways to experience the park, soak in its beautiful features all while pedaling your little heart out.
But I wasn’t alone for this adventure. My wife and our good friends Jon, Judy, and their daughter all saddled up for our 20 mile, five and a half hour tour of the Carriage Roads.
Along the way we stopped at a handful of the beautiful, granite bridges built throughout the carriage roads. Each one was individually designed with the intent to both blend into the background and be a work of art to admire all on their own.
Once you are done checking out the bridges be sure to plan ahead so you can grab lunch at the Jordan Pond House. This restaurant is right inside the park, has a sweet name, and the expectedly fantastic views are matched by delicious food and drink.
The week we spend exploring the park is something I look forward to doing every year. I am so glad that this year I was able to share our biking adventure with you. If you want to see more videos like this one click subscribe and drop me a note below what you thought of Acadia National Park.
Thank you so much for watching. Now it’s your turn, get out there and ride.

Awesome Rock Climbing in Acadia National Park, Maine (July 2016)
Rock Climbing/Otter Cliffs/Acadia National Park/Climbing in the USA
Rock climbing in Acadia National Park (Maine, US) is fantastic during summer. Definitely a lot of fun and a great view. Rocks are friendly and variety of routes for any level. We climbed at Otter Cliffs, enjoyed the sun and nature and professional guidance. I would recommend getting help of professional rock climbing guides in this area. I'm not new to the rock climbing, but new to the area. The Otter Cliffs has a variety of routes that need to be set up with climbing ropes, special gear etc. Atlantic Climbing School (67 Main St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609) was where we found our guide.
Meanwhile, I share with you what else we did:
1) Things to do: watch the bold eagles seals while on the ferry ride
2) Make sure the tide is low when you plan climbing on the Otter Cliffs
3) Place to stay: We stayed at the Hadley's Point Campground (Great showers, free parking, a lot of space)
4) Places to eat: We tried Terrace Grill, Cafe This Way, Side Street Cafe, Lompoc Cafe, and Leary's Landing Irish Pub
4) Place to Rent Bikes for the Horses Carriage Way: Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop (141 Cottage St, Bar Harbor, ME 04609)
5) Places to go Biking: Horses Carriage Way
Have Fun!

How Spending a Year in Acadia National Park Changed My Perspective | Will Greene | TEDxDirigo
While still in high school, Will Greene discovered the folds of time and the power of presence—truly making time to simply be—in the process of capturing a year’s worth of nature time-lapse photographs in Acadia National Park. Here, he shares this joyful journey through words and visuals.
Will Greene is a 19 year old photographer from Bar Harbor, ME. He graduated from Mount Desert Island High School in 2015, and is currently in his first year at Middlebury College. Will grew up on Mount Desert Island and developed a passion and deep sense of caring for the environment as a child while spending countless hours in Acadia National Park with his mother, Bo, and his father, Craig, who passed away from pancreatic cancer when Will was six. Will developed a love for landscape photography in Acadia, and in his senior year of high school, Will created a year-long time-lapse film of Acadia, showcasing the beauty of the park through all four seasons, and celebrating it in its centennial year.
At Middlebury, Will spends most of his time on academics and varsity diving, getting out into Vermont’s Green Mountains to hike, bike and ski whenever he can.

✩OUR STORY: Backroads of Montana. Watch Video here:
I'm originally from Fier, Albania. I grew up in Roskovec until I finished the 8th grade and then immigrated to Italy on my own to look for work opportunities. I ended up being taken in by a school for boys without families, Fondazione il Faro, in Rome. There, they tried to integrate us into the community by teaching us the Italian language as well as giving us technical skills like making pizza, cutting hair, carpentry and computer programming. After a year at the school, I found my first job as a waiter in a vegetarian restaurant. The work was challenging and I loved it. I waited tables for the next six years, working at renowned Roman restaurants learning a great deal about Italian food and wine in the process.
In 2004, I met my wife, Kaleigh, a Montana native, who was a student traveling and studying in Rome...

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:

SUMMARY
=======
Acadia National Park is an American national park located in the state of Maine, southwest of Bar Harbor. The park preserves about half of Mount Desert Island, many adjacent smaller islands, and part of the Schoodic Peninsula on the coast of Maine. Acadia was initially designated Sieur de Monts National Monument by proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. Sieur de Monts was renamed and redesignated Lafayette National Park by Congress in 1919—the first national park in the United States east of the Mississippi River and the only one in the Northeastern United States. The park was renamed Acadia National Park in 1929. More than 3.5 million people visited the park in 2017.
Native Americans of the Algonquian nations have inhabited the area called Acadia for at least 12,000 years. They traded furs for European goods when French, English, and Dutch ships began arriving in the early 17th century. The Wabanaki Confederacy has held an annual Native American Festival in Bar Harbor since 1989. Samuel de Champlain named the island Isle des Monts Deserts (Island of Barren Mountains) in 1604. The island was granted to Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac by Louis XIV of France in 1688, then ceded to England in 1713. Summer visitors, nicknamed rusticators, arrived in 1855, followed by wealthy families, nicknamed cottagers as their large houses were quaintly called cottages. Charles Eliot is credited with the idea for the park. George B. Dorr, the Father of Acadia National Park, along with Eliot's father Charles W. Eliot, supported the idea through donations of land, and advocacy at the state and federal levels. John D. Rockefeller Jr. financed the construction of carriage roads from 1915 to 1940. A wildfire in 1947 burned much of the park and destroyed 237 houses, including 67 of the millionaires’ cottages.
The park includes mountains, an ocean coastline, coniferous and deciduous woodlands, lakes, ponds, and wetlands encompassing a total of 49,075 acres (76.7 sq mi; 198.6 km2) as of 2017. Key sites on Mount Desert Island include Cadillac Mountain—the tallest mountain on the eastern coastline and one of the first places in the United States where one can watch the sunrise—a rocky coast featuring Thunder Hole where waves crash loudly into a crevasse around high tides, a sandy swimming beach called Sand Beach, and numerous lakes and ponds. Jordan Pond features the glacially rounded North and South Bubbles (rôche moutonnées) at its northern end, while Echo Lake has the only freshwater swimming beach in the park. Somes Sound is a five-mile (8 km) long fjard formed during a glacial period that reshaped the entire island to its present form, including the U-shaped valleys containing the many ponds and lakes. The Bass Harbor Head Light is situated above a steep, rocky headland on the southwest coast—the only lighthouse on the island.
The park protects the habitats of 37 mammalian species including black bears, moose and white-tailed deer, seven reptilian species including milk snakes and snapping turtles, eleven amphibian species including wood frogs and spotted salamanders, 33 fish species including rainbow smelt and brook trout, and as many as 331 birds including various species of raptors, songbir ...
