Supporting a CSU Treasure: The Annual Flower Trial Garden
Colorado State University's Annual Flower Trial Garden is a CSU treasure, aesthetic delight, and one of the most-visited places in Fort Collins. Established to evaluate how annuals fare in the unique environmental conditions of the Rocky Mountain and High Plains region, the garden is an invaluable resource for homeowners, industry partners, students, and researchers.
A recent $25,000 gift from the Ecke family will enhance visitor enjoyment of the garden and recognize the service and impact of longtime horticulture educators. Paul Ecke III and his sister, Lizbeth Ecke, graduated from CSU in 1981 and '82, and wanted to support this living, growing testimonial to the impact CSU and its teachers have had on their lives and careers.
Landscape horticulture professor Jim Klett talks about the garden, its purpose, and the Ecke family's connection to the poinsettia industry and its enduring association with the holidays.
Ramble On: Annual Trial Gardens at Colorado State University
The Ramble On crew took cameras out to the Annual Trial Gardens here at Colorado State University to see what one of the most beautiful parts of campus is all about. After spending the day at the CSU Trial Gardens, it is easy to see why it is one of the top tourist stops in northern Colorado.
The garden boasts nearly 3 acres of eye-popping flowers off College Avenue by the University Center for the Arts. As the Ramble On crew learned, its purpose is to test hundreds of flower varieties for their growing ability in Colorado's climate. The garden is also a beautiful spot for anyone to visit.

Gardening Chronicles in Colorado
My new backyard has plenty of space that's prime for gardening. I'll mainly use permaculture strategies and I'll feed my plants with a hydroponics system that will contain live fish. It looks like I might get some chickens too. I'm going to try and document the process because I know I'm going to learn plenty.
Vids are open to discussion of course and I welcome any questions or suggestions.
Cheers to Spring!

Colorado State University professor hoppy to help Colorado breweries
Through a collaborative partnership with Philips Lighting, researchers at CSU’s Horticulture Center are growing and harvesting hops up to five times a year. The state-of-the-art lighting in the Horticulture Center allows for a much quicker growing cycle. Normally, hops are harvested once a year, in the fall, but with the unique, specialized lighting, they can now be harvested multiple times. The availability of wet hops - freshly picked hops - in an area that is known as the Napa Valley of craft beers, will provide a significant benefit to area breweries.
