Arneson River Theater is an outdoor performance theater located in the San Antonio River Walk in the U.S. state of Texas.
The open-air venue was erected 1939-1941 by the Works Progress Administration. The design was supervised by architect Robert H.H. Hugman. It is named after Edwin Arneson, the regional engineer for the W.P.A. who was instrumental in securing funding for the Paseo del Rio. Arneson died before construction began. Many years later bells were added to arches behind the stage that Hugman had designed, and they were named for him. In a belated ceremony, the Father of the River Walk struck the bells for the first time, two years before his death.
The stage is on the north side of river; the audience sits on the grass-covered steps on the south side, which can hold over 800 people on 13 rows of seats. A nearby stone bridge is often made part of the performance space. It is now called Rosita's Bridge in honor of Rosita Fernandez, a pioneer of Tejano music, who performed here as star of the summer-long Fiesta Noche del Rio for almost 25 years. Nowadays the theater is used for folkloric groups, music concerts, plays, dance, and even opera.

Rosita's Bridge over the San Antonio River in Texas honors Mexican-American Rosita Fernández (1919-2006), who had a long and distinguished career as a popular singer and actress.
She was named San Antonio's First Lady of Song by Lady Bird Johnson, and was known for performing Tejano songs in shows, on radio and on TV. She moved to San Antonio at the age of nine.
In 1932, Rosita became the star of a radio program on WOAI in San Antonio, and in 1933 recorded jingles for several radio commercials. In 1949, she performed on the first broadcast on WOAI television, and later became a regular on several shows.
Her movie credits include Sancho, The Homing Steer, a 1963 Disney made for TV movie. She also had roles in The Alamo with John Wayne in 1960, in Three Hundred Miles for Stephanie, and Seguin.
Beginning in the 1950s, Fernandez performed in the annual summer show Fiesta Noche del Rio at the Arneson River Theater on the San Antonio River. She also was a featured performer each spring at the A Night in Old San Antonio event at San Antonio's Fiesta celebration.
Rosita ended her singing career in 1982. Rosita's Bridge crossing the San Antonio River at the Arneson River Theater was named after her in that year.

La Villita is the name of the original city of San Antonio that was founded in 1722. It's now part of downtown San Antonio, which is one of the ten largest cities in the United States.
La Villita is one of the top tourist attractions in San Antonio. Visitors are charmed by its old world setting which includes dozens of small shops and outstanding restaurants. The Little Church of La Villita was built in 1879, serves several denominations and is a favorite site for weddings.
La Villita sits along the San Antonio River, close to the most popular tourist attractions in San Antonio: the River Walk, the Alamo, the Tower Of The Americas and HemisFair Park.
One of the most interesting spots in La Villita is the Arneson River Theater, where tourists can sit in an open air amphitheater and watch productions on stage across the River Walk.

UT Longhorn Band on the RIVER WALK
Members of the University of Texas Longhorn Band cruise along the festive RIVER WALK on their way to the 2019 ALAMO BOWL Pep Rally at the Arneson River Theater. The UT football team will battle the Utah Utes in the 27th edition of the ALAMO BOWL inside the climate-controlled Alamodome in downtown San Antonio.

The San Antonio River Walk (also known as Paseo del Río or simply as the River Walk) is a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River, one story beneath the streets of San Antonio, Texas, USA. Lined by bars, shops, restaurants, nature, and public art, the River Walk is an important part of the city's urban fabric and a tourist attraction in its own right.
The River Walk is a successful special-case pedestrian street, one level down from the automobile street. The River Walk winds and loops under bridges as two parallel sidewalks lined with restaurants and shops, connecting the major tourist draws from the Shops at Rivercenter, to the Arneson River Theatre, to Marriage Island, to La Villita, to HemisFair Park, to the Tower Life Building, to the San Antonio Museum of Art, to the Pearl and the city's five Spanish colonial missions, which have been named a World Heritage Site, including the Alamo. During the annual springtime Fiesta San Antonio, the River Parade features flowery floats that float down the river.

Houston Street is the name of one of San Antonio's oldest and most popular streets. Being adjacent to The Alamo where the Battle of the Alamo occurred, some buildings on the street sustained cannon fire during the war. The historic Majestic Theater is located on this street.
San Antonio, officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh most populated city in the United States of America and the second most populated city in the state of Texas, with a population of 1,409,019. It was the fastest growing of the top 10 largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and the second from 1990 to 2000.
San Antonio was named for Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is on June 13, by a 1691 Spanish expedition in the area. It is notable for Spanish colonial missions, the Alamo, the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. Commercial entertainment includes SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme parks, and according to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, the city is visited by about 32 million tourists a year. The city is home to the five-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs and hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest such events in the country.
The US armed forces have numerous facilities in San Antonio: Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base (which constitute Joint Base San Antonio), and Lackland AFB/Kelly Field Annex, with Camp Bullis and Camp Stanley located outside the city. Kelly Air Force Base operated out of San Antonio until 2001, when the airfield was transferred to Lackland AFB. The remaining portions of the base were developed as Port San Antonio, an industrial/business park and aerospace complex. San Antonio is home to six Fortune 500 companies and the South Texas Medical Center, the only medical research and care provider in the South Texas region.
The missions of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park along with the Alamo, became part of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites on July 5, 2015.[citation needed] The San Antonio Missions became the 23rd U.S. site on the World Heritage List, which includes the Grand Canyon and the Statue of Liberty.
Economy
San Antonio has a diversified economy with about a $96.8 billion metropolitan Gross Domestic Product. This ranks the city 4th among Texas metropolitan areas and 38th in the United States. San Antonio's economy is focused primarily within military, health care, government civil service, financial services, oil and gas and tourism sectors. Within the past twenty years, San Antonio has become a significant location for American-based call centers and has added a significant manufacturing sector centered around automobiles.

The Alamo Mission in San Antonio (the Alamo), located in Downtown, is Texas' top tourist attraction. Because of the mission, San Antonio is often called the Alamo City.[53]
The River Walk, which meanders through the Downtown area, is the city's second-most-visited attraction, giving it the additional nickname of River City. Extended an additional 13 miles between 2009-2013, the landscaped walking and bike path line the San Antonio River from the Museum Reach beginning at the Historic Pearl Brewery through downtown, Downtown Reach, past the Blue Star's Eagleland to the Mission Reach ending at Loop 410 South past Mission San Juan Capistrano.[54] Lined with numerous shops, bars, and restaurants, as well as the Arneson River Theater, this attraction is transformed into an impressive festival of lights during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, and is suffused with the local sounds of folklorico and flamenco music during the summer, particularly during celebrations such as the Fiesta Noche del Rio.
