IBTV Inside Peek: Old Sugar Distillery Madison, WI
This week IBTV visits the Old Sugar Distillery on Madison's near east side. Named after an old sugar factory on Madison's east side, the distillery has created a range of small-batch spirits distilled and flavored with Wisconsin ingredients. Products include Americanaki Ouzo, Grappa, Cane & Abe Freshwater Rum, Queen Jennie Whiskey, and Old Sugar Factory Honey Liqueur. The distillery is capitalizing on new state laws that allow the company to have a retail location at its distillery on Main Street. You can visit the distillery for a taste test, tour of the site, and to enjoy a wide range of unique cocktails created with its products. You can also find its products at liquor stores, bars, and restaurants throughout Wisconsin and elsewhere in the United States. The distillery is one of a growing number of craft distilleries in the country, including Wisconsin's five craft distillers, which have recently joined together to form the Wisconsin Distillers Association.

Clear Creek Distillery Apple Brandy Review - On the Rocks
Jorel Hughes and Anthony Schultz review their second On the Rocks brandy, Clear Creek Distillery Apple Brandy.
Clear Creek Distillery is a fairly 'new' distillery based out of Portland, Oregon with humble beginnings in the 1986 orchard industry. Oregon is known for being abundant in various fruit crops, so founder Stephen McCarthy decided to open his own doors and put his orchards to good use in a brandy distillery!
The most famous product (and first!) was their eau de vie, which is a clear fruit brandy. However, since then they have branched out to several other types and fruit flavored brandies, such as the aforementioned Apple Brandy.
Unique for its time, Clear Creek Distillery is known as one of the finest eau de vie distilleries in the world and continues to receive high marks within the international community.
As a first for the On the Rocks team, Jorel and Anthony dive headlong into the nuanced flavorings of their Portland neighbor's finest brandy.
Don't forget to subscribe to the On the Rocks channel for continued reviews and critiques of your favorite spirits and cocktails!

WILMA's Women to Watch Leadership Initiative - A Lunch with Vivian Howard
Whether you've dined at one of her Kinston-based restaurants, were captivated by her PBS show A Chef's Life or braved a recipe from her debut cookbook, Deep Run Roots, Vivian Howard's influence has reached far beyond her own kitchen. Aalborg
Aalborg is an industrial and university city in the North of Jutland, Denmark. As of 1 January 2014, it has a population of 130,853, making it the fourth most populous city in Denmark. With a population of 205,809, the Municipality of Aalborg is the third most populous in the country after Copenhagen and Aarhus. By road Aalborg is 64 kilometres southwest of Frederikshavn, and 118 kilometres north of Aarhus.
The earliest settlements date to around AD 700. Aalborg's position at the narrowest point on the Limfjord made it an important harbour during the Middle Ages, and later a large industrial centre. Architecturally, the city is known for its half-timbered mansions built by its prosperous merchants. Budolfi Church, now a cathedral, dates from the end of the 14th century and Aalborghus Castle, a royal residence, was built in 1550. Today, Aalborg is a city in transition from a working-class industrial area to a knowledge-based community. A major exporter of grain, cement, and spirits, its thriving business interests include Siemens Wind Power, Aalborg Industries, and Aalborg Portland. These companies have become global producers of wind turbine rotors, marine boilers and cement.

MHCC Alum Spotlight: Shane Watterson the Brewer
Shane Watterson likens elements of beer brewing to carpentry and construction work. He enjoys the physical aspects of working as a brewer, and the wide range of tasks he performs each day.
“With brewing, there’s a lot going on – including plenty of math and science,” he says while standing in front of the fermentation tanks at Level Beer, the East Portland-based brewery he co-owns. “We use microscopes, we calculate formulas every day. We get creative with our recipes and flavors and play around with the materials, like the yeast, grains, and hops used.”
Similar to construction, there’s a lot of finish work involved too.
“There’s some repetitiveness in brewing; you usually complete the same process over and over again,” Watterson adds. “But it’s nice to get really good at something and to tighten the process, produce something truly delicious, and see other people enjoy it.”
Prior to co-founding Level Beer with Geoff Phillips and Jason Barbee in summer 2017, Watterson earned a General Studies degree from Mt. Hood Community College. He went on to complete a four-year degree in philosophy and Spanish studies, lived and studied abroad for a few years, and worked a little while in the construction industry (“It wasn’t for me,” he adds.). His path to brewery owner began around 2006, when he started home brewing. He worked his way up from brewer’s assistant to brewmaster before establishing Level Beer with his former brewery co-worker, Jason Barbee.

SUMMARY
=======
Louisville ( (listen) LOO-ə-vəl, (listen) LOO-ee-vil, (listen) LUUV-əl) is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the 29th most-populous city in the United States. It is one of two cities in Kentucky designated as first-class, the other being Lexington, the state's second-largest city. Louisville is the historical seat and, since 2003, the nominal seat of Jefferson County.
Louisville was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark, making it one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachian Mountains. It is named after King Louis XVI of France. Sited beside the Falls of the Ohio, the only major obstruction to river traffic between the upper Ohio River and the Gulf of Mexico, the settlement first grew as a portage site. It was the founding city of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, which grew into a 6,000-mile (9,700 km) system across 13 states. Today, the city is known as the home of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), the University of Louisville and its Louisville Cardinals athletic teams, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and three of Kentucky's six Fortune 500 companies. Its main airport is also the site of United Parcel Service's worldwide air hub.
Since 2003, Louisville's borders have been the same as those of Jefferson County, after a city-county merger. The official name of this consolidated city-county government is the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government, abbreviated to Louisville Metro. Despite the merger and renaming, the term Jefferson County continues to be used in some contexts in reference to Louisville Metro, particularly including the incorporated cities outside the balance which make up Louisville proper. The city's total consolidated population as of the 2017 census estimate was 771,158. However, the balance total of 621,349 excludes other incorporated places and semiautonomous towns within the county and is the population listed in most sources and national rankings.
The Louisville-Jefferson County, KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), sometimes also referred to as Kentuckiana, includes Louisville-Jefferson County and 12 surrounding counties, seven in Kentucky and five in Southern Indiana. As of 2017, the MSA had a population of 1,293,953 , ranking 45th nationally.
