Going through customs Canada to USA by Greyhound
The bus stops on Canada side.
You have to take everything with you: all coats, sweaters, books, carry-ons etc.
The bus has to be completely clear when it gets inspected.
While you are inside the customs office someone comes on the bus and inspects it, I saw one guy leave a small bag in one of the compartments. He ended up being taken to the side and questioned about why he did that.
So, the bus stops you get off, take all belongings with you, they unload your luggage at the side, and you take that with you too, inside to the gates.
You have a declaration form that you've already filled out, which they want to see, along with ID, Passports etc.
And they will ask you a few questions. You put your bag up to go through a scanner of some sort. (they dont help with this)
They may do a random check of luggage, and they send you back to a secondary gate for more questions, it depends on the customs agent that first questions you.
So after you do that, you keep walking, through this door to this waiting room, and you are now officially in the United States now.
You walk outside and the bus is still in the same spot as when you got off the bus, so it is still in the Canada across the border.
So you cant walk back and get on, cause now you are in America and the bus is still in Canada.
Once it has been cleared and inspected, it will move forward a few feet and be in the USA too.
The luggage is loaded back up again, and your good to go again. I think most of the passengers actually loaded their luggage back onto the bus, the bottom compartments. there were no additional greyhound attendants to help the driver.
so once you're all done waiting for the few people who always manage to take longer than everyone else, your good to go. (minus the people who were held back for any reason)

They're known as ICE raids, seemingly indiscriminate, often undercover operations to root out illegal immigrants and they happen across the United States, day in, day out. ICE stands for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, and while it existed under President Barack Obama, ICE arrests in the workplace went up by more than 600 percent in the last year under President Donald Trump.
With the president's ceaseless talking and tweeting about threats like a government shutdown if Democrats refuse to fund his border wall, or that migrant caravan from Honduras, stories about ICE and its sister agency, CBP - Customs and Border Protection - are right up there on the mainstream media's agenda.
But the role the media play in this particular narrative goes well beyond just covering the story. Over the past year, NGOs and legal advocacy organisations have collaborated with media outlets to track cases of enforcement abuse. And they train communities to use their own media tools to document wrongdoing.
Cases like that of Perla Morales-Luna, Juan Hernandez, or Romulo Avelica Gonzalez are just three examples of thousands that surfaced because they were caught on camera, explains Palika Makam, programme coordinator, WITNESS.
Eyewitness footage has been so crucial in exposing ICE's manipulative tactics. Romulo Avelica-Gonzalez was arrested by two ICE agents who were in unmarked vehicles, wearing jackets that only said 'police'. There's a reason why they don't identify themselves, they are trying to use manipulative tactics to get information from immigrants or people who they've racially profiled in order to arrest and deport them.
While ICE is not a new body, Trump's gone further than any other president to arrest and deport undocumented immigrants. As such, there's been a substantial

increase in interest in stories of family separations, deportations, and arrests across the country, says Ryan Devereaux, immigration reporter at The Intercept.
An uptick in stories about how ICE racially profiles people on the street, picks up immigrants at routine court check-ins, uses contentious surveillance tactics, and makes mass arrests have helped to expose the administration's predatory actions.
Some of the journalism does more, by providing extensive collaborations between news organisations and advocacy groups; groups that have done the research and can show people how to protect themselves when ICE agents are raiding their neighbourhoods.
ICE watch projects like The Marshall Project-New York Magazine are particularly interesting because, seeing the mapping up here, what has actually happened, is useful to immigrant New Yorkers who can actually turn the ambient buzz of rumours about what might be happening into a sense of what has actually happened and can navigate their own lives accordingly, points out Dara Lind, immigration reporter at Vox.
Other grassroots movements across the country are taking place in the form of crash course video journalism workshops, where people learn how video can be used to help immigrant communities expose injustices, advocate for asylum seekers and defend against deportations. It teaches people not just how to document ICE and Border Patrol abuses but how to do it safely and ethically.
For ICE, an unauthorised immigrant is a lawbreaker, points out Muzaffar Chishti, director at the Migration Policy Institute. But for the advocates of that unauthorised person, he or she is not just a lawbreaker, but he or she is also a parent, he or she is also a contributing member of the community, he or she is also someone who has roots in this place. They want to portray that aspect of the person, and these tools have become very important in making that happen.

For the past 2 years, the former bus driver from Portland, Oregon, has been forced to recycle his life in Germany, a country he’d not stepped foot in for almost 60 years. He didn’t even speak the language.
In 1956, when Harry was 4 years old, his mother decided they should leave their German homeland in search of a better life. One week later, America was their new home. In all this time, Harry had never sought U.S. citizenship. He never thought he would need it. But after a brush with the law, on paper and in the eyes of U.S. Immigration, Harry was German and his destiny already set.
Christ the King Episcopal Church in Frankfurt helps people like Harry rebuild their lives through a ministry called Heimkehrer, which means homecomer. Colo. Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States, was a passenger on the Narcissus on August 18, 1914 on a trip from Lewiston to Portland. Maine's finest and fastest electric railway, the Portland Lewiston Interurban, commenced regular operation on Thursday, July 2, 1914, its 29.8 miles of main track extending almost due north from a connection with the Cumberland County Power & Light Company-leased Portland Railroad Company in Portland through West Falmouth, West Cumberland, Gray and the town of New Gloucester to Auburn and a connection with the Mechanic Falls line of the Lewiston, Augusta & Waterville Street Railway.
Because of interurban promoter W. Scott Libbey's desire that each car have a distinct personality and not be identified just by number, all six were named after flowers.
No. 10 was the Arbutus; No. 14, the Narcissus.
Each of the original cars was 46 feet long overall and 8 ft. ¾ in. wide and had steam coach roofs and straight vertically sheathed sides. There were seven arch windows -- six double sashes and one single sash -- on each side, the sashes being arranged to lift.
The arches above the sashes and the windows in the roof clerestory were glazed with ornamental leaded glass. The exterior livery was Pullman green with gray roofs and dark red doors and trim and gold leaf numbers and lettering.
The main passenger compartment in each car was 30 feet long and contained twenty 19 in. by 31-in. reversible transverse seats and two 18 in. by 32-in. longitudinal seats upholstered with green plush and accommodating 44 passengers. The six-foot smoking section had two 18 in.-wide leather-covered longitudinal seats for eight riders. According to the Electric Railway Journal of Sept. 25, 1915, the center isle in the main compartment was 24 in.-wide while that in the smoking section was 4 ft. 10 in. wide, the two areas being separated by a bulkhead having a central sliding door with ribbed glass panels. The interior finish was mahogany with ebony and holly decorations, and interlocking rubber tiling was used on the floors.
Quoting from the Journal:
Heiwado reversible seats are used and the cars are fitted with baggage racks. The end of each seat is provided with a leather ticket holder, eight holders also being attached to the inside sheathing, with four more in the smoking compartment.
(Although the cars were equipped for double end operation, they normally were run with the smoking compartment forward.
Some of the clerestory stained glass and frames for the Narcissus were provided by its sister interurban, No. 10 Arbutus, via the Shoreline Trolley Museum in Branford, CT.
After the closing of the PLI in 1933, The Arbutus was preserved as a completes operable vehicle and moved to the property of W. Scott Libbey's daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Libbey Anthony, in Camp Ellis, Saco, Maine until it was scrapped during WWll.

In their first public appearance together, Stoppard and Chalmers will discuss whether science will ever truly crack “the hard problem.” This is the driving concept behind Stoppard’s new play, The Hard Problem, which will run at the Wilma from January 6 through February 6, 2016.
The Hard Problem—Tom Stoppard’s first new play since Rock ’n’ Roll introduces us to Hilary, a 22-year-old psychology student applying for a coveted position with the Krohl Institute for Brain Science. As Hilary prays for strength to move beyond personal regrets, she passionately explores the blurred lines between science and psychology with her colleagues and her sometimes-lover Spike. Ethics are called into question as they delve into “the hard problem” of consciousness versus gray matter, and debate whether altruism even exists. Following a sold-out run at the National Theatre in London, the Wilma—“synonymous with Tom Stoppard in Philadelphia” (Metro)—is proud to be among the first to bring The Hard Problem to United States audiences.
