The Works:Wood art, HK Int'l Photography Festival & in the studio: singer-songwriter Emmy the Great
We look at wood, a material that’s relatively common in Hong Kong’s less built up areas, but one that we often fail to use to the best of its advantage. As Typhoon Mangkhut battered Hong Kong in September, it uprooted more than 60,000 trees. Some 7,000 tonnes of tree debris ended up in our landfills, but a few artists have decided to rescue at least a little of this material and turn it into art.
The Hong Kong International Photography Festival was set up eight years ago by 19 local photographers. Since then it’s grown bigger and spread to more venues. This year the festival focuses on Japanese photography. One of the major exhibitions in the festival showcases 50 years of iconic black and white pictures from the well-known photography magazine “Provoke”, founded in 1968. Another major exhibition is the first local solo exhibition of works by the late photographer Nakahira Takuma. The festival also features a satellite exhibition of 20 artists’ works, as well as talks, screenings and workshops.
As a singer, Emmy-Lee Moss is better known as Emmy the Great. Born in Hong Kong to a British father and a Chinese mother, she moved to England when she was 12.
She’s since spent time in New York and Los Angeles among other places to pursue her music career. The songs on her first two albums, “First Love” and “Virtue”, focus on her own experiences. “Virtue” details her pain and confusion when a formerly atheist fiancé found religion and decided to break off their relationship. Her third album “Second Love” examines the interaction between our digital age and human emotions. Emily’s now back in Hong Kong, and she’s here to tell us more.

China blames US for massive Hong Kong protest
Chinese state media is blaming the US for helping organize massive protests in Hong Kong. According to organizers, more than a million people took to the streets to protest a new law which could allow Hong Kongers to be extradited to China on a range of offenses. Critics say the move would make anyone in Hong Kong vulnerable to being grabbed by the Chinese authorities for political reasons or inadvertent business offenses and undermine the city's semi-autonomous legal system.
Though police put the protest size at closer to 250,000, there's little doubt that the march was among the largest since 2003, when 500,000 people protested against a sedition law -- and successfully blocked it. CNN's Matt Rivers reports.

The Last of Hong Kong’s Bouncing Noodle Masters
Marco is a master of a dying art—kneading the dough for bamboo noodles with a bamboo pole. If you walk by his family’s Kwan Kee Bamboo Noodle shop in Hong Kong, you might see him at work, bouncing up and down like a seesaw as he pounds the dough. It’s physically tiring, but Marco says the technique makes noodles that are chewier, springier and tastier.

Fuck The Popo English Lyrics (Credits to the original artist JB)
Credits to JB, here's the original video link:
To raise awareness for what's happening in HK right now, I decided it's useful to translate a Philippine-origin HK rapper JB's song that protests against the police's brutality against the black-attired HK protesters, who called for the government to simply maintain the basic human rights (like political rights and freedom of speech) that was once in the HK system ------- as the government was about to implement a bill that will remove all these human rights.
This is what the police had done to these peaceful democratic protesters:
1. severely beat up and torture (to the point of blindness and bone fractures) protestors, anyone against the police or accidentally stands in their way (NGO social workers and journalists)
2. spreading tear gas in a public MTR station
3. Female Protesters are slut-shamed and sexually molested by the police
4. Protestors (regardless of age) are highly suspected to be killed by the police then faked as suicide
People around the world, this is a problem with misogyny, with a tyranny that will probably affect you another day. Please stand with us.
These are my self translated lyrics of the Cantonese rap song:
Fuck the popo, fuck your mother’s puss! ( fuck your mother’s puss)
Fuck the popo fuck your mother’s puss! yea X2
Two million plus one we stay firm and keep together
Don’t you tell me it’s just your job, fuck those pennies in your wallet leather
You bunch of dick faces got no sperm, so there you free your fill of tear gas and rubber bullets,
For the sake of the people’s freedom, I will gladly “pussed” through this with masks and helmets.
Poofing and puffing, I swear war to those turtle-sheltered police, the microphone weapon to my heart.
Don’t “justify” your dick-tail shit, Knock It Out! Unschooled Boys!
I will gladly be your so called rioters, if it means the alternative is being you puppets convoys!
Black the orchid is! Our country’s flower! all black everything!
Surrounding the police quarter in rage, as u bunch of fucks
keep raping our peace
We keep our bodies clean of chains and dishonesty
You guys muzzle your guilt behind your fangs, and batoned our heads in innumerable “modesty”
Fuck the popo, fuck your mother’s puss! ( fuck your mother’s puss)
Fuck the popo fuck your mother’s puss! yea X2
Cops you break the laws, getting your hands dirty with nose proud high
Soon u will meet your end, cuz everyone knows you’re playing (abusing power and as dictator in this context) “the game of thrones”,
We state it crystal clear that five demands are no moaning clones
You make a fuzzing mess, dicking everyone, one day with another
You push the cut ties further to strangled songs of fuck your mother
Just call in fat Lo, while he butters up in orgasm “Yes~ Call Me Commissioner!”
We don’t boycott our jobs and classes in exchange for fumbling with your pussy pants
Make-up faces, you monkeyed out of examining lasers, “getting laid” by rotten egg rants
Wet cop vaginas are so hungry for our heads but not so obedient to our (the Five Demands) needs
Those pussies wanna see red and will not stop until it (the people) bleeds
And we sing hallelujah to the lord
And we sing hallelujah to the lord
Fuck the popo, fuck your mother’s puss! ( fuck your mother’s puss)
Fuck the popo fuck your mother’s puss! yea X2

How Did Bruce Lee Actually Die?
When Bruce Lee awoke on the morning of July 20, 1973, he was an active, healthy 32-year-old. He spent the day meeting with producers about his next film, then headed to a friend’s house for an afternoon visit. By nightfall, the greatest martial artist in a generation lay dead on a mattress on the floor, and the world was left to wonder: how did Bruce Lee die?
