Originally installed in the Chicago Stadium in 1929 (it was played during president FDR's inauguration), it was saved during demolition and purchased by the Maloof Foundation. Over $100,000 has been spent restoring this magnificent one-of-a-kind treasure!

This is a dream come true. There are very few occasions where you get to build an organ of this magnitude and don't have to cut any corners. Some people say, 'oh don't do that.' Paul says 'no I want it done right.
THE CONSOLE DOWNSTAIRS HAS FOUR KEYBOARDS, 32 FOOT PEDALS AND MORE THAN 400 TABS FOR DIFFERENT SOUNDS. UPSTAIRS IS WHERE THE ELECTRONICS AND NOISEMAKERS ARE HOUSED.

52nd Annual American Legion National Convention Portland, Oregon 1970 / Vortex I rock concert
August 29, 1970
The 52nd Annual American Legion National Convention Parade in Portland, Oregon. Anti War protester join in the Parade. Peaceful Protest.
President Richard Nixon was scheduled to attend the convention.
The People's Army Jamboree a local Anti-Vietnam War Group & members of Portland's counter culture were planning a series of massive demonstrations & violent protests against The Vietnam War to take place during the American Legion Convention.
An FBI report given to Gov. om McCall estimated a potential crowd of 25,000 Legionnaires & 50,000 Anti-War protesters.
In order to keep the peace & avert the planned demonstrations, violence & protests, Gov.Tom McCall and a representative of the People's Army Jamboree group came to an agreement to have a rock festival sanctioned by the State of Oregon.
The Vortex 1
It is estimated that between 30,000 to 100,000 people attended the week-long festival.

Vortex 1 The Rock Festival became known as The Governor's Pot Party
The Parade took place in downtown Portland Oregon. The Parade was peaceful with only a few orderly protesters.
It was filmed at the same time as the Rock Festival Vortex 1 was going on 25 miles south of downtown at McIver State Park.
