Tsim Sha Tsui was infused with great excitement on Janiuary 23, 2012, as the Cathay Pacific Chinese New Year Night Parade brought exuberant colours to the popular tourist district on the first evening of the Year of the Dragon.
The procession, which comprised 35 glowing floats and upbeat performing troupes from 12 countries and regions, greeted visitors and residents along the parade route, who were captivated by the mascots and performances on the mythical dragon. Carrying the theme World City. World Party, this year's parade fully showcased Hong Kong's very own East-meets-West culture, cosmopolitan flavours and the vibrant spirit of the Hong Kong people.
Now on its 17th year, the signature event organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has become a must-see attraction among many visitors and local residents.

Hong Kong Night Parade Celebrates Lunar New Year
The 2017 International Chinese New Year Night Parade featuring colorful floats and various performances was held on Saturday night, the first day of Chinese Lunar New Year.
The annual night parade, which started at 20:00 at the Hong Kong Cultural Center, had 10 floats and 26 international and local performance teams. More than 3,000 people attended the parade.
Students from Hong Kong ballet school wearing rooster costumes brought a joyful dance performance. A German performance team performed on stilts and French performers wearing luminous costumes danced during the night.
Their wonderful performances won cheers from spectators.
We loved it. I thought it was amazing. It was fantastic. My favorite part was the end with the Legos, said a tourist for the United States.
Very exciting. Very colorful. Very noisy, said a spectator who has settled in Hong Kong.
Many children performed very well and they are very professional. They are very united. I think Hong Kong is good; has many talents, said a Hong Kong resident.
This year's float parade is one of the important events that celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China. Balloons with celebratory signs were released at the end of the parade which expressed best wishes to Hong Kong.
I do a lot of business with Chinese people. I love Chinese people and my wife and I wanted to come and celebrate and start a fresh new year here in Hong Kong, said the U.S. tourist.
I hope tomorrow will be better. It's been 20 years [since Hong Kong's return to China]. We are very happy. We have many infrastructures including building bridges. We think the development is booming. Tomorrow will definitely be better, said a Hong Kong resident.
According to data from the Hong Kong Tourism Board, about 155,000 people watched the performance on the scene. Some spectators sent their best wishes to others.
May all your dreams come true. Wish you good luck, said a four-year-old girl at the parade.
