Hong Kong was once the world’s biggest toy maker, a legacy which continues with companies based in the city still producing 60-70 per cent of the global toy supply from factories on the Chinese mainland.
Toy enthusiast Chong Hing-fai has been collecting old toys made in Hong Kong in the 1950s to 60s. His collection offers a glimpse into what life was like for people during the city’s toy manufacturing heyday.

Uncle Zhu, 72, is an amateur toy tinker who has fixed tens of beloved toys. After retiring, he opened a “toy clinic” in Shanghai, where he “treats” toys that are decades old. He says he not only fixes toys, but also the precious memories people associate with them.

Maritime Museum, Hong Kong
हङकङको समुन्द्री संग्रहालय !
Hong Kong Maritime Museum (Chinese: 香港海事博物館) is a non-profit educational institution funded by the international shipping community and the government in Hong Kong. It is located at Central Pier 8, Hong Kong. The museum was reopened to the public in February 2013.
The museum illustrates how China, Asia and the West have contributed through the ages to the development of boats, ships, maritime exploration and trade, and naval warfare. While concentrating on the South China coast and its adjacent seas, it also covers global trends and provides a comprehensive account of Hong Kong's growth and development as a major world port and maritime centre.
The museum includes semi-permanent and special exhibitions, interactive displays, educational events, café and a museum shop.
Toy expo opens (1.3.2017)
The Legend of Hong Kong Toys exhibition has opened at the Museum of History.
One of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the show features more than 2,000 toys which are nostalgic for Hong Kong people or made locally.
Visitors can learn about the toy trends and social landscapes of different eras.
The venue’s lobby has been transformed into a dynamic play area.
Other highlights include the 100 Star Wars stormtroopers lined up at the museum entrance, a grassy terrain covered in 1,000 yellow ducks, and a variety of classic toys.
The exhibition also shows how local industrialists transformed Hong Kong into a toy kingdom.
To tie in with this theme, the Museum of History will hold workshops, lectures and a fun day.
A limited number of souvenir items will be presented to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.
Speaking at the opening ceremony today, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So said the exhibition takes children and adults through a “time tunnel” to witness the evolution of toys and discover details about the transformation of the industry and the creativity behind it.
With Hong Kong the world’s second largest toy exporter, Mr So noted products made here are not only unique but also hold high safety and quality standards, contributing significantly to the city’s economy. (

Every time I say be careful - take a shot.
-1 for one missing mini figure. My bad... Forgot to include him/her.
I take a look at Xingbao’s Maritime Museum. A bit overkill in the front but the interior is really something else.
For all you new viewers, I’m new in this brick/lego universe so there might be mistakes I make and things I do wrong. Just have a good time and hopefully you’re entertained.
Some notes:
1.scratchy windows? Yes. It’s quite normal for these china brands.
2. Most of these videos are nearly 40 mins long in length but I’ve trimmed them to be shorter (so sometimes I cut out things that are unnecessary). By all means please do comment and maybe I can answer more questions.
3. Finally, if you read this, I’m gonna try my best to be consistent. Weekends for bigger builds. Weekdays smaller ones and vblogs. It’s a lot of hard work but all you subs that leave me messages makes it all worth while.
Thanks again for all the love and don’t forget to like, subscribe and comment.

For all you camera geeks, details on what I used below (for most of the videos).
Sony's FS700 with Zeiss FE2.8 4k Raw to pro res. Used for all the extreme close ups.
Sony's FS5 4k UHD to 4K pro res with Fujinon 18-55mm. Used for my face...
Slow motion was all shot in 2K raw to pro res.
Manfrotto LED lights LYKOS, really small and great for small shoots like this. Also the mini lumimuse for the main light. So small, yet so portable.
The Legend of Hong Kong Toys
Hong Kong may be a small city, but it was once the world's largest toy exporter. High-quality, low-cost toys drew international brands to the city looking for factories to carry out production. Meanwhile, local toy manufacturers strived to create their own brands and tapped into overseas markets with premium products, taking Hong Kong-made toys to the world's arena. When it all started, Hong Kong was virtually unheard of and toys marked "Made in Hong Kong" were even sent back. As Hong Kong gradually built a reputation, however, "Made in Hong Kong" became a guarantee of good quality.

A mini blocks music and light box designed in Hong Kong
Supporting Hong Kong designers. The toys was designed in Hong Kong and manufactured in Mainland China. It plays different Christmas songs consecutively for about 10 minutes and then returns to the first song to start the cycle again. Its price is very irresistible, only about $8 to $10 Canadian dollars, making it an affordable and yet attractive Christmas gift. Four collections are available in this Christmas series: A reindeer, a teddy bear, a snowman and Santa Clause. (Aside: sorry for the background noise. My sister's dog was howling)
