If you're looking for free activities in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Park and Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens are good places to go. They're right next to each other in the Central and Admiralty districts.
I would recommend going earlier, as there are some areas that close early, such as the Edward Youde Aviary in Hong Kong Park. The Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware in Hong Kong Park does Pu'er tea making demonstrations, but only at certain times (I think they stop after lunch).
If you're not a fan of overly sweet desserts, and you like Chinese tea, I highly recommend ordering the coconut and green tea rolls with tea. I had it with Tieguanyin, but I'm sure it would go well with any Chinese tea.

Hong Kong - Hong Kong Zoological And Botanical Gardens (2018)
The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (Chinese: 香港動植物公園) is one of the oldest zoological and botanical centres in the world. It occupies an area of 5.6 hectares at Mid-levels, on the northern slope of Victoria Peak in Hong Kong. Founded in 1864, its first stage had been opened to the public in 1871. It is the oldest park in Hong Kong.
Similar to Hong Kong Park, Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens provides a natural environment and atmosphere in Central District. It is bigger than Hong Kong Park and contains more plants, birds and facilities.

We crossed into this park following our trip to the Peak as they are very close by. This is a small place but worth a visit if close by. Small range of birds and primates are kept here and we got the chance to get up close with orangutangs.

The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens is a great place for people of all ages. Although it is crowded, but that is how Hong Kong is, but it can expand your knowledge on different species of animals. Amazing place to kill time!

Chinese Mammals at Hong Kong Zoo (1080p HD)
The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens is located on the northern slope of Victoria Peak with a highest point of 100 metres and a lowest point of 62 metres above sea level. This Zoological Garden occupies an area of 5.6 hectares. It was founded in 1871 as a Botanic Garden and renamed in 1975 as Botanical and Zoological Gardens.
Hong Kong Zoo and Biological Gardens have a history dating back to the 1870’s making it one of the oldest public zoos in the world.
There are over 600 birds, 70 mammals and 40 reptiles, including many different species. The majority of the animals are actually birds but it also has alligators, orangutans and pythons. The primate species are Bornean Orang-utan, Buff-cheeked Gibbon, Lion-tailed Macaque, Siamang and many more.
The collection of primates is varied, including such as golden lion tamarin, orangutan, ring-tailed lemur and black-and-white ruffed lemur. The reptiles are primarily snakes and turtles such as Chinese alligator, Malaysian giant turtle and Burmese python. Birds include Flamingo, Red-crowned Crane and Peacock Pheasant.
There are more than 1,000 species of plants in the gardens mostly indigenous to tropical and sub-tropical regions. It has rare species like the Dawn Redwood and the local Ailanthus. The Botanical Gardens has split into several separate themed sections such as Bamboo Garden, Magnolia Garden and Palm Garden.
Our Review : The zoo does not have many animals, mainly monkeys, birds and a few tortoises but monkeys and birds are being the main attractions. The park contains beautiful flowers and plants. The best thing about Hong Kong Zoo is actually the beautiful botanical gardens.
Consideration :
1) The grounds are set in limited space.
2) Big mammals are missing like lions, elephants or giraffes.
Zoo Timings : 6 am – 7 pm
Entrance is free.
