Local Dining Etiquette in Hong Kong | 10 dining rules you need to know before you come to Hong Kong!
HUMID WITH A CHANCE OF FISHBALLS TOURS
Coming to Hong Kong? Before you start to dine like a local - here are the do's and the don'ts to local Hong Kong dining for your first 101 basic crash course. Watch this before you come so you're prepared for all the hot water you'll be given.
Have you tried washing your own dishes before at a restaurant? Let us know in the comments below! If it's all to daunting, we provide authentic local food tours, and a dimsum tour at the dimsum restaurant in the video.
NOTE: We are aware that the audio is terrible - we learned that the hard way as Hong Kong is just too noisy. The static and background noise is probably not the most pleasant for headphone users. Sorry!

Chinese New Year 2020 | EPIC FAIL - Making glutinous rice dumplings (tang yuan) dessert in Hong Kong
This is part of our CHINESE NEW YEAR 2020 series!
Glutinous rice dumplings with a sesame seed filling are awesome and they are a must-eat during Chinese New Years. We usually buy it frozen, but decided to try our hand at making them from scratch. To no fault of the recipes and videos we used, we failed epically. To be fair, it's quite simple to make so not sure when we was such a disaster the first time around. Not particularly educational (we're foodies, not cooks!), but hope it was entertaining.
The recipes used:

1st time cooking Chinese New Year Dinner | Abalone, black moss, & oysters & tuan yuan dessert | 團年飯
Welcome to our Chinese New Year Series!
I'm a foodie - but usually I'm on the eating end and not on the cooking side of things. For this Chinese New Year Eve, we decided to cook the Chinese New Year dinner (think Christmas equivalent). We cooked 5 dishes plus the soup for a total of 6 because you can never have 7 dishes, including the soup as that is absolute bad luck.
We even had homemade glutinous rice dumplings with black sesame to finish, made from an earlier video.

HONG KONG TRAILER
Hong Kong: Hong Kong exists as a Special Administrative Region controlled by The People's Republic of China with limited autonomy. With a population of over 7.3 million people, Hong Kong prides itself on its interesting style of cuisine that is known worldwide. This week begins our 4-episode #BestEverHongKongFoodTour. We will be tasting the most unique flavors of Hong Kong and we can’t wait for you to join us on this amazing tour!
Several Clips were used from South China Morning Post. Through my research I found SCMP to be the most unbiased, objective reporter of the events taking place in Hong Kong right now.

Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

21 Most Popular Chinese New Year Greetings with English phonetics | CANTONESE version
Chinese New Years has a lot of traditions and bai nian (拜年) is a big deal. That's the process of people wishing each other lucky things, and there are some common greetings specifically during Chinese New Years that we say. We've given you English phonetics so if you want to do the same with your friends, now you can!
Please note that the characters are in the traditional form and Cantonese is spoken in this video as Mandarin will have a different pronunciation. Also please note that Virginia is fluent in Cantonese and born from Cantonese speaking parents, but she's got a slight CBC (Canadian-born-Chinese) accent in her Cantonese so take her pronunciation with a grain of salt. It will definitely be good enough if you want to just impress your friends and family though, but she is in no way saying she has a native Cantonese accent.
The sayings are broken down into categories for different people:
1) General sayings | 1:55
2) For the kiddos | 3:07
3) For the business-minded | 3:43
4) For the elders | 4:53
5) For the aunties | 5:17
5) For the gamblers | 5:34

Authentic Seafood Dinner on a Sampan Fishing Boat in Hong Kong
Humid with a Chance of Fishballs Tours' authentic and one of a kind dining experience on a fishing boat. Dine on the last remaining fishing boat restaurant in Hong Kong, as seen on TVB dramas and on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. Please note that this is non-touristy experience and a sampan is a traditional fishing boat and not the touristy red sails junk boat.
Partake in a villain hitting ceremony, called an Intangible Heritage of Hong Kong, ride on the trams running in Hong Kong since 1904, and then board a water taxi to get to your floating restaurant on the waters to indulge in 5+ courses of fresh & top quality seafood.

Guided Dimsum Tour at Lin Heung Teahouse in Hong Kong
Humid with a Chance of Fishballs Tours' brings guests to the famous Lin Heung Teahouse, which has been in Hong Kong since 100 years ago. Dimsum here is as chaotic, local and authentic as it comes, and there is a lot of dimsum etiquette and tea culture one should learn during dimsum. Food is hard to get here, and it's often intimidating if you're a solo traveller or a couple, so come with us as a group to try shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns, sticky rice, malay cake and more!
As regulars of the teahouse, we can get all the good food, teach you how to get a table, fight for food, and wash your dishes here. For more information:

OLDEST Dim Sum House vs. LUXURY Dim Sum in Hong Kong | How to Eat Dim Sum in Hong Kong Guide!
A trip to Hong Kong would not be complete without some dim sum, and this time, I tried out a couple different experiences. I went for old fashioned traditional dim sum at Lin Heung Tea House and then for fancy luxury dim sum at Yan Toh Heen.

Craft Beer Hong Kong - a 3 brewery tour with Humid with a Chance of Fishballs
Hong Kong might be a little late to the craft beer scene, but it doesn't mean that it isn't good.
I joined the craft beer tour with Humid with a Chance of Fishball to visit the:
1) Black Kite Brewery
2) Young Master Brewery
3) Little Creatures
I really enjoyed sampling all the different beers and learning about how they are made - all three are very different and a good representation of the overall craft beer scene in Hong Kong.
The tour was by Humid with a Chance of Fishballs, starting at Wong Chuk Hang station and ended in Kennedy Town.

There's a Spicy Fudge Tabasco Sundae at McDonald's?!? Taste Test!
Trying all the new products from the Tabasco and McDonald's collaboration in Hong Kong! Limited time only in McDonald's starting from Sept 7, 2017.
Spicy Tabasco Fudge Sundae, Onion Ring Angus burger with Tabasco Mayo and Shake Shake Spicy Fries. So did we like it? Find out in the video. Available now in most McDonald's in Hong Kong & end date not disclosed so check it out as soon as possible.
NOTE: The video is very yellow - sorry for the off-white balance. I look less like a oompa loompa in real life - I swear!

Chinese New Year 2020 | DIY Lanterns from Lucky Envelopes | Super easy & only requires a stapler!
This is part of our CHINESE NEW YEAR 2020 series!
We're using lucky envelopes to make DIY lanterns that are easy to make but looks like you put so much more effort into them. Great way to reuse and repurpose extra lucky envelopes or used lucky envelopes!
I can't take credit for the idea - it was Mary (my old colleague who sat next to me who taught me 5 moons ago). Thanks Mary!
Steps:
1) Close the envelopes | 1:04
2) Make creases. Fold half length-wise and width-wise. | 1:26
3) Make creases. Fold all the corners into the halfway line. | 1:42
4) Put 2 envelopes back to back. Staple one corner together (2 staples on every corner). Do that with the 3rd envelope, so you've got 3 sides of the lantern attached. | 2:42
5) Make the ribbon & staple a piece of scrap paper so the ribbon won't fall out of the lantern | 3:00
6) Tuck the ribbon in. Staple the remaining envelope into place. | 3:48
7) Repeat the stapling on the bottom. Pause when you have 3 sides done. | 4:30
8) Prep the tassel: staple a piece of scrap paper so the tassel won't fall out of the lantern | 4:50
9) Staple the remaining envelope to finish the bottom | 5:25
10) Make slits halfway on the crease on the top | 6:20
11) Grab the flaps together and staple for each side | 6:55
12) Repeat on bottom. Make slits halfway on the crease on the bottom | 7:12
13) Grab the flaps together and staple on each side (bottom) | 7:40

About HUMID WITH A CHANCE OF FISHBALLS TOURS:
“If you like our name, you’ll like our tours” is their motto.
Founded in late 2016, Humid with a Chance of Fishballs Tours is a small grassroots independent company that strives to offer authentic and off-the-beaten path tours so tourists and expats alike can get a taste and glimpse of true local life in Hong Kong.
As of January 1, 2020, they have amassed over 540 reviews on TripAdvisor with a 98% 5-star rating and are currently ranked #5 out of 202 companies for the Best Tours in Hong Kong.
An expat in Hong Kong recently sang their praises, “A Must Do! We have lived in Hong Kong for over a decade and still love to explore restaurants. We experienced authentic local restaurants in a district we'd never spent much time in previously. For a tourist it is a glimpse into local life, and for an expat it means finding another local gem to eat at. Some of the dishes presented were unlike others I had tasted in HK, unique seasonings, making it truly some of the best late night eats around. Even a local would weigh in on it being good!
