Transcript:
I'm Bonnie Roseman and I am a realtor here in Portland Oregon. I work primarily in the close in neighborhoods matching people and houses for condos or duplexes that kind of thing.
I a focus on old homes and interesting infill. And one of my areas of specialty is relocation. I had that experience of transplanting myself very abruptly and so I really remember what that felt like. And I love working with clients who are coming from other parts of the country or other parts of the world . So one if it big things that has been changing in decades is the focus on the environment and how we live in the environment.
I a try in my personal life with my own house to build in as many green features as I can. Last year I even bought my first plugin all-electric car and put in a car charger so I just charge my car up a couple of hours every night. No more gas station for me. And so I try to apply these things in my own life and then the more research I do in my experience I have, I can share that with clients.
Most of my clients are urban people. They want to live in the city. They want to live where they can get out and walk, go to a farmers market. They're interested in protecting the environment. They’re interested in eating organic food. They like good food, good things to drink, good things to eat.
So people who wanna be near restaurants, shopping and able to walk to things. People who enjoy having a short drive to the mountains, to the coast. Having the city kinda bisected by rivers and surrounded by the mountain it's just it's very beautiful here and I get a lot of people that are drawn to that beauty and the politics of Portland and it's just a very relaxed casual place to be.

Will Fuller: Southwest Portland
Will Fuller lives in Multnomah Village, a Southwest Portland neighborhood he describes as a “nice, middle-class comfortable place with a rural feel.” Its walkable design matters to his health and to the “social health” of the whole neighborhood, he says. He can walk from his home to a senior center, his bank, a grocery, a park and a bus stop—all within a few blocks. This easy access is keeping him active and engaged as he ages. Everyone, no matter where they live, deserves the same opportunities, Will says. How does your place in Oregon connect to health?

Central controllers and most terminal unit controllers are programmable, meaning the direct digital control program code may be customized for the intended use. The program features include time schedules, setpoints, controllers, logic, timers, trend logs, and alarms. The unit controllers typically have analog and digital inputs that allow measurement of the variable (temperature, humidity, or pressure) and analog and digital outputs for control of the transport medium (hot/cold water and/or steam). Digital inputs are typically (dry) contacts from a control device, and analog inputs are typically a voltage or current measurement from a variable (temperature, humidity, velocity, or pressure) sensing device. Digital outputs are typically relay contacts used to start and stop equipment, and analog outputs are typically voltage or current signals to control the movement of the medium (air/water/steam) control devices such as valves, dampers, and motors. Crown Lecture in Ethics | Former U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe
This is the 2018 Crown Lecture in Ethics, “Politics and Our Potential: Can Congress Rise to Meet Its Obligation to Govern?”
Former U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe is the first and only woman to have served in both houses of a state legislature, and then both chambers of Congress. Snowe, a Republican, won the Maine U.S. Senate seat three times, serving from 1995 to 2013. Her solidly centrist views and efforts to build bipartisan consensus gave her a national reputation as one of Congress’ leading moderate policymakers.
Event moderator: Frederick “Fritz” Mayer, professor of public policy and director of POLIS: The Center for Political Leadership, Innovation, and Service.
The Crown Lecture in Ethics is made possible by a gift from Lester Crown and the Crown family and its purpose is to bring speakers to campus to discuss compelling ethical issues in the fields of art, science, medicine, business and policy.
The lecture is presented by the Sanford School of Public Policy and co-sponsored by POLIS. It was held March 26, 2018. This event is part of the yearlong centennial celebration of the late Terry Sanford, Duke’s president from 1970-1985.
DEAD MALL: Mall 205 - The Mall of Mystery
PATREON PAGE:
The deadest of dead malls in the Portland area is no doubt Mall 205, located in the southeast part of town. It opened to great fanfare in 1970 and has struggled ever since. Today many of its storefronts stand empty with reminders of past businesses. But beyond its deadness there is a strange feeling people can get walking through the dead part of the mall, a feeling of coldness and dread. As I mull this aspect of visiting this place over I delve into the history of the site that the mall was built upon to see that it has a somewhat troubling past.
Primarily, this site was the location of the Morningside Hospital, a hospital for the mentally ill.

Japanese Prints Abroad in Portland: The Mary Andrews Ladd Collection
Jeannie Kenmotsu, Ph.D., Japan Foundation Assistant Curator of Japanese Art, Portland Art Museum
Japanese woodblock prints were met with an enthusiastic audience abroad in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. In Europe and the United States, tens of thousands of prints were bought and sold, exhibitions and record-breaking auctions staged, and a new passion kindled for private collectors. Most of what we know about early American print collecting has been focused on the East Coast—donations that were the basis for the world-class museum collections in Boston, New York, and Chicago. Lesser-known but just as significant was the donation of the Mary Andrews Ladd collection of Japanese prints to the Portland Art Museum in 1932. Drawing on the Museum’s archives, period records, and the collection itself, this lecture explores this transformational gift of nearly 750 Edo-period (1603–1868) woodblock prints, and expand the story of early Japanese print collecting in the United States.
Co-sponsored by the Asian Art Council.

SUMMARY
=======
Portland is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is a major port in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. As of 2017, Portland had an estimated population of 647,805, making it the 26th-largest city in the United States, and the second-most populous in the Pacific Northwest (after Seattle). Approximately 2.4 million people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), making it the 25th most populous MSA in the United States. Its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) ranks 18th-largest with a population of around 3.2 million. Approximately 60% of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.Named after Portland, Maine, the Oregon settlement began to be populated in the 1830s near the end of the Oregon Trail. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy. At the turn of the 20th century, the city had a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, a hub for organized crime and racketeering. After the city's economy experienced an industrial boom during World War II, its hard-edged reputation began to dissipate. Beginning in the 1960s, Portland became noted for its growing progressive political values, earning it a reputation as a bastion of counterculture. The city operates with a commission-based government guided by a mayor and four commissioners as well as Metro, the only directly elected metropolitan planning organization in the United States. The city government is notable for its land-use planning and investment in public transportation. Portland is frequently recognized as one of the world's most environmentally conscious cities because of its high walkability, large community of bicyclists, farm-to-table dining, expansive network of public transportation options, and over 10,000 acres (4,000 hectares) of public parks. Its climate is marked by warm, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. This climate is ideal for growing roses, and Portland has been called the City of Roses for over a century.
