The Works:Oxfam's Poverty.Full-time, Fiona Wong x Law Uk, Konstantin Grcic & Borromeo String Quart
According even to government figures, at least 1.34 million people in Hong Kong are living in poverty. Social workers and community organisations say that number is an understatement. Many of those poor are retired, but even among those still working, salaries are often too low. After a long tug of war between unions and employers, the government has agreed to raise the hourly minimum wage by just $2 to $34.50 with effect from 1st May, subject to Legco’s approval. As a recent exhibition organised by Oxfam points out, even having a job doesn’t guarantee you can afford to live comfortably in this expensive city.
Last week, we took a look at an art project organised by the Arts Promotion Office, “Hi! Houses”, and at artist Lam Tung-pang’s encounter with Wong Uk Village. Today we’re bringing you another pairing from the same project: ceramic artist Fiona Wong and the Law Uk Folk Museum in Chai Wan.
The Wall Street Journal described German-born designer Konstantin Grcic as the “quiet superstar of industrial style”. The airy and three-dimensional looking Chair 1 and Stool 1 are among his most recognised works. At the Hong Kong Design Institute until 2 April you can see Grcic’s first large solo exhibition in Asia. It includes over 200 exhibits, including products, prototypes, drawings, and everyday items, as well as three large-scale installations representing his personal ideas for life in the future.
Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Borromeo String Quartet has been in residence at the New England Conservatory in the United States since 1992. The ensemble, which performs works by 20th and 21st century composers, is known for pioneering the use of certain technology in its performance sand educational programmes. They’re here with Ben Pelletier.

-----------------------------
My name is Dennis. In 2009, I opened this channel to record or document this city. I know something is being changed in next decade(s), or I felt the change have began since 2003, no later in 2046. I want to, at least, save some kind of city life in video form instead of taken photo or written in words. I strongly believe that motion picture and sound recording are much better way to preserve and present in the future when young generation want to get know of Hong Kong.
In May of 2018, I wrote the following statement in below:
.....................................................................................
Hi everyone, thank you for supporting me in fulfilling my childhood dream of making videos.
My parents had always taken a tolerant attitude toward my “capricious”: whether my work is feasible and sustainable... and they never complained about it.
As my father just passed away in May, I am left with no choice but to give up my video making venture.
In Hong Kong where the cost of living is sky high, youtube video making is simply not sustainable by google adsense alone. The revenue produced is way too insufficient for affording a domestic helper, and I must look after my mom all by myself - this is why I must stay very close to her at all times.
Unless my revenue is closed to market rate, or my income can cover a domestic helper, otherwise I can hardly justify any video-related works.
Therefore, from now on everything video will be postponed in terms of year(s).
Thank you, and hope to see you all again in the future.
..............................................................
Because I am the only son of my mother in Hong Kong, and I have to take care of her at home. I almost give up this channel because of high consumption of time and living cost. But I found some extra time.
I live in Fanling, north part of New Territories, so it will include my showtime of traveling back and forth. Because of home care to my old mother, there will be no time other than 9:00 to 16:00 because my mother is staying at the senior daycare center, so before and after that, I will NOT able to do filming.
I understand most of you are looking for high quality of video, e.g. 4K or 8K. But hardware is so important at this post-production, that is, the higher quality video, the higher powerful computer to render video. In recently, I solved matter by paid for PowerDirector apps to make 4K on my Pocophone F1, 1 hour of 4K video = 2 hour to make, besides, the convert 4K file time is around 24 hours......
I will continue to run this channel as long as the time is fit-on-me or I don't see any kind of video job could fit me.
I hope this is clear to everyone.

Take a Break with Art - Art Jam @ Citywalk
Sino Groups Art in Hong Kong is bringing art to two shops in Citywalk that have been temporarily converted to exhibition galleries. Citywalk, Hong Kongs first evergreen shopping mall, is an iconic Tsuen Wan landmark located on Yeung Uk Road. Featuring a vertical garden, Citywalk offers shoppers a fun and inspiring environment.
The Hong Kong Society of Illustrators has been invited to curate and create the exhibition Take a Break with Art in one of the shops, where 23 local illustrators will fill the 1,300 square feet shop at Citywalk with different art elements including graffiti works as well as 3D pieces in the form of chairs and benches.
The illustrators use their own unique angles to interpret the title Take a Break with Art. Inside the exhibition, viewers can find characters flying freely in the sky, enjoying a cup of coffee over the clouds and adventuring into the wild. All are invited to take a break from their hustle and bustle lives by stepping into the venue.
Art jam sessions will also be held for audience to join with the illustrators and create together.

The Little Things in Every Day
I took random clips of the simplest / most random things that make me smile / feel great everyday. This is how I de-stress from life. I make myself feel good by enjoying the most mundane activities! :D
And...
I would just like to tell that you don't have to have an extravagant life to feel genuinely happy. Sometimes, by just feeling the moment you are in & appreciating the littlest things around you.. you can have a truly happy version of yourself. We usually strive and look for happiness in material things / company of other people.. but really.. having a me time + being appreciative of the good things = a great reward / gift to a special person.. which is YOU. ^^
Sending all the good and warm vibes from Japan,
Kaila : )
