A RECENT EDITION OF GOOD HOUSEKEEPING MAGAZINE RANKS LEWES AS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION FOR BEACH TOWNS.
BUT IT GOES WELL BEYOND THE SAND AND THE WATER. THE TOWN IS BEING PRAISED FOR ITS SERENITY, HISTORY, AND ACTIVITY.
We have wonderful museums. The state has wonderful museums here that give the history of Lewes. The Lewes historical society has tours that you can go on. And there's just so many other things.
People are just like your next door neighbor.
The shopping, the stores, just the ambiance of being in town. It's just a good feeling.
Lots to do besides going to the beach.
THE LEWES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SAYS THE TOWN IS BENEFITING BECAUSE OF ALL THE POSITIVE ATTENTION.
I can just tell this year. We've done a lot more ribbon cuttings this spring than we've ever done before. There's so many new businesses moving here and a lot of the business owners are people who have moved here to open up their businesses.
WE MET THIS MAN FROM PHILADELPHIA WHO IS NOW CONSIDERING MOVING TO LEWES.
I've seen a lot of different lists that says this is the best place to live in the state.
IT'S USUALLY REHOBOTH BEACH GETTING ALL OF THE NATIONAL ATTENTION. BUT LEWES IS PROVING THIS TOWN CAN ALSO COMPETE WITH THE BEST. I'M TIMOTHY PARKER FOR W-R-D-E, DELMARVA'S OWN N-B-C STATION.

LEWES Beach, DE 3-22-2016
Windy day at Lewes Beach, first town in the first state, founded in 1631. My favorite place to escape to. This is a nice quiet beach, in the quaint town of Lewes, that never gets too crowded, unlike Cape Henlopen or Rehoboth. Many sunken ships in this area from 1600, 1700's. After a big storm a few years ago, all kinds of relics washed up on the inlet ( hook at left ) shore. So many people were collecting artifacts that the Historical Society had to fence it off so they could collect items. After they removed the fencing, I would go down and find things during low tide. Pottery, glass, porcelain. You can still find treasures if you look. Of course if you find something good, it should go to the H.S. : )
