Delaware...The first state in the union is also one of the smallest, and who’s number one industry is agriculture! Dover is an historic city where the first state ratified the Constitution. The “Celebration of Freedom Air Show” is held at Dover Air Force Base and includes precision aerobatic flying in addition to the Air Force Thunderbirds. Delaware is a beautiful state…without any national parks. Delaware beaches attract thousands of visitors each year. Fenwick Island is where local kite boarders and kite surfers come to catch big air and talk about their sport. Peggy Raley had to get the state laws changed in order to create Delaware’s first and only winery, Nassau Valley Vineyards. Now, they are producing award-winning wines. Horseshoe Crabs, one of the most important marine invertebrates, are used for a variety of purposes including medical research. Go on a nighttime crab survey with scientists as they study horseshoe crab populations. Each year, millions of birds from South America fly to the arctic, stopping in Delaware to feed on the horseshoe crab eggs. The Migratory Bird Festival at Bombay Hook is timed to coincide with the arrival of the horseshoe crabs. Fort Delaware, once a Civil War prisoner of war camp, is now a “living history” museum with characters portraying life in the year 1864. Wilmington, and nearby, the DuPont estate, Winterthur. Elegant rooms full of antiques, civil war relics and period furnishings used by the DuPont’s when in residence, are on display. Discover Seas Shipwreck Museum showcases an amazing collection of relics recovered by treasure hunter Dale Clifton, from shipwrecks off the coast of Delaware and around the world. Peggy Raley-Ward is founder and co-owner of Nassau Valley Vineyards, Delaware's first farm winery. She is a lecturer, wine educator and consultant. Peggy's past includes being the national coordinator for 450 chapters of Les Amis du Vin International Wine Society, the magazine's sister organization. In 1991 she changed Delaware's laws to allow for farm wineries and opened Nassau Valley Vineyards with her father in 1993. In 2007 she was named Delaware Travel and Tourism Person of the Year, and was awarded Southern Delaware Tourism's Person of the Year in 2012. She is also a jazz vocalist and jazz educator.

Making Wines To Please All Palates At Mineral Hills Winery
Located within Massachusetts' pristine Pioneer Valley, Mineral Hills Winery is one of the state's newest wineries. The winery, aptly named for the Mineral Hills located nearby, opened its doors in 2010 and is a part of Godard's Red Hen Farm, a sprawling 60 acre farm swathed with apple trees, grape vines, and vegetable gardens.
Mineral Hills produces a wide array of French American and vinifera grape wines as well as a number of fruit wines. However, the winery's mead, also known as honey wine, may be the its most unique offering. Mineral Hills sources its honey from beehives on the farm and produces its mead in a palate-pleasing dry style.
In this video, Larry Godard, one of the owners of Mineral Hills Winery, takes us on a short tour of the winery, discusses the range of wines he produces and the process for making each, from harvest and crush to fermentation and aging. (Can't miss section -- a mammoth vat of mouthwatering blueberries undergoing an initial fermentation.)
Mineral Hills Winery is located at 592 Sylvester Rd in Florence, Mass. The winery is open April - December and wine tastings and tours are available Friday through Sunday 11 AM - 5 PM or by appointment.
