Asian pop star Andy Lau has become the he first local singer to be included in the world famous Madame Tussaud's wax portraits museum in Hong Kong.
Andy Lau, a singer and actor from Hong Kong, is worshipped by fans throughout Asia.
He has twice won the most popular singer award in Hong Kong and has been nominated for best actor at the Hong Kong film awards.
The attraction of the Madame Tussaud's museum features around 100 portraits of the world's top personalities people, including pop icons Michael Jackson, Madonna; movie star Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, actress Michelle Yeoh, Business tycoon Li Ka Shing, and President Jiang Zemin.
Andy Lau's is the first local singer to join the eminent dummies.
A team of Madame Tussaud's expert wax sculptors flew from London to Hong Kong to conduct a measurement of the Asian super star.
The sculptors took several hundred photographs which were then sent back to Madame Tussaud's studios in London, to produce an incredibly accurate wax image. The life size then took eight months to complete.
In order to ensure it replicates the real person down to every detail, human hair is inserted into the portrait's head manually strand-by-strand and colour is carefully applied to bring the face and features to life.
The clothes of the portrait are rich in traditional Chinese style, and the design is come from costume of the past Andy Lau's concert.
There are seven exhibition halls in Madame Tussaud's museum: Movie World, Sport, Behind the Scenes, Celebrity Party, Hall of the Great People, Chamber of Horrors, and Music Legends.
The world-famous Madame Tussaud's wax museum was opened in London in 1884, and attracts over 2.5 million visitors a year. A further 500,000 visitors a year go through the turnstiles at the Hong Kong off-shoot.

HONG KONG: MADAME TUSSAUDS TO OPEN NEW BRANCH

The world famous waxworks museum, Madame Tussauds, is due to open a third branch in Hong Kong by the end of this month and reporters have been given a preview of the wonders within.
The model of the Chinese leader, Jiang Zemin, has already arrived in Hong Kong and local people will soon be able to have their pictures taken alongside him.
At last Chinese people will have the chance to tell Jiang Zemin exactly what they think of his government, without fear of repercussions.
The Chinese leader is here in Hong Kong - not in the flesh perhaps, but almost.
He's one of the stars of Madame Tussauds, and stands waxily among a hundred celebrities including Deng Xiaoping and Bruce Lee.
The whole process of creating a Jiang Zemin cost around 45-thousand U-S dollars.
Before sculptors start making a wax figure, they have a sitting with the subject in order to take precise measurements and photograph the subject's head and body from every possible angle.

Because Jiang Zemin if the first Chinese person that I have sculpted, I had to really study the structure of the Chinese face because the underlying skull is quite different of course. Fortunately we had the sitting with him so I was able to study it in close detail.

The sitting generally takes one and a half hours.
But the sitting with Jiang Zemin lasted only seventeen minutes.
The eyes of the figures are made individually to exactly match the colour and detail of the subject.
Human hair is inserted strand by strand into the wax scalp.

We had a sitting with him in China and he finally allowed us to take hair samples and compare samples to his hair. Then I sent the samples to a special hair merchant who acquired the hair for me and then it was inserted directly into the wax with a needle with the eye cut in half, which is like a tiny fork. You push the hair into the wax with that.

Visitors will get a chance to see Princess Diana close up, and to meet the legendary Beatles.
Perhaps world leaders such as Bill Clinton and Saddam Hussein will never be close in real life, but they stand together happily in the showrooms of Madame Tussauds.
