Glider Ride
A little movie of our glider flight around Boulder and the Rockies. Had to cut the filming short as we hit some strong winds and it was all hands on the safety bars!

The ASW 20 is an FAI 15 meter Class glider designed by Gerhard Waibel and built by Alexander Schleicher. The ASW20 first flew in 1977 and was an instant success, winning numerous world and national championships. Dick Johnson reported that the ASW20 was the first 15 m glider to demonstrate a measured L/D in excess of 40/1. The ASW-20-B is known as a very pleasant handling glider in most respects. The landing flaps (55° in early models, 38° in later models), in conjunction with very effective air-brakes, allows the pilot to make exceptionally steep approaches at slow speeds, permitting very short landings when required.

The PW-5 was designed for, and won a competition held by the International Gliding Commission for a simple, low cost sailplane that would form the basis for a new competition class, the IGC World Class. Unlike other soaring competition classes, the World Class designation would guarantee that all pilots participated on an equal footing, and that pilots could not gain advantage by spending large amounts of money.

The Texas Soaring Association (TSA) is a non-profit corporation devoted to motorless flight. Established in 1947, the club is located 15 minutes south of Midlothian, Texas, which is itself at the southern edge of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The club is maintained and operated by the voluntary efforts of its more than 200 members. The club operates from its own airfield and owns six single and four two-place sailplanes, plus four Pawnee towplanes. TSA operates year round on most flyable Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The club also operates on an unscheduled basis on other weekdays when the flying weather is really good!
Why learn to fly gliders?
The Wright brothers knew that the way to get into aviation was through gliders. Their experiments in design and practical application in flying gliders helped them to understand the complexities of powered flight. If you are new to aviation, learning to fly gliders provides basic skills valuable to any aviation pursuit.
If you are an experienced pilot, you could join the rank of glider pilots such as Steve Fossett, Neil Armstrong, Chesley Sullenberger and many other renowned aviators. Flying sailplanes may re-introduce you to the joy of basic flight which doesn’t require noisy, gas guzzling engines or complicated technology to fly.

HIKING ALONE | PARAGLIDING | 7.2 miles to Poo Poo Point
Hey, welcome to a new decade my friends!
Today, we're hiking Poo Poo Point! It's located in the Issaquah - Tiger Mountain area in Washington state. The main attraction for this hike is being able to see para-gliders take off into the horizon when you get to the top.
This hike is my gym. If I drank too many bubble teas within a week, I'd go here to burn calories. I have logged more than 500 miles on this hike.
This hike is VERY crowded, there's always people here at any time of the day, even at 5am! So I feel safe hiking alone here.
This video took two trips to make....so no, I didn't jump behind the bush and changed into a new outfit. :P
Wanna do this hike? More info here:
See ya on the trails, hiker!
City of Boulder could ban skiing at park

Crazy Sailplane Flight Over Jacksonville, Florida
The soaring conditions were incredible during this flight, so I took the liberty to fly over downtown Jacksonville, alongside US Naval Air Station (NAS), JAX and over the St Johns River toward the Mandarin section of town. Normally you don't fly over large bodies of water (large amount of sink), but in this case, with so much altitude, there wasn't anything to worry about. Finished off the flight by passing over one of North Florida Soaring Society's (NFSS) sailplanes.
WWII FLIGHT TESTS OF XCG-16 CARGO GLIDER DESIGNED BY HAWLEY BOWLUS 28754
This fascinating, silent 16mm movie comes from the estate of William Hawley Bowlus (May 8, 1896 - August 27, 1967) or someone who was close to him. Bowlus was a designer, engineer and builder of aircraft (especially gliders) and recreational vehicles in the 1930s and '40s. Shown in this film is the plywood XCG-16a experimental military glider, which was ordered by the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 based on designs made by Bowlus in 1942. The glider was supposed to be able to fly at 200 miles per hour and carry a 4300 lb. howitzer and full gun crew, or a full squad of twenty soldiers.
The test flights shown were in July of 1944. They likely took place in Orlando, Florida although it's possible they were filmed at either Rosamand or the Oxnard Flight Strip, later known as Oxnard Air Force Base and later Camarillo Airport. As you can see, the XCG-16 represented a radical departure from single fuselage designs and incorporated a twin boom, flying wing type design. The glider front wing opened like jaws with the bottom swinging down as a ramp resting on the ground. The glider could carry 42 troops or two howitzers. It had retractable landing gear, a wingspan of 91.8 feet, and weighed in at 9,500 pounds empty.
Roughly 8 months before this film was made the prototype aircraft was involved in a serious accident that killed several passengers including Richard Dupont the special assistant to General Hap Arnold. The cause of the accident was simple: weighted bags that had been placed on the aircraft to act as ballast shifted in flight, causing the airplane to go into a flat spin.
The tests shown here likely represented a last ditch effort to save the Cargo Glider program. Apparently during the stint in Florida over 30 hours of flight time were put on the aircraft, and 50 successful landings were made. Pilots involved included the famed Northrop test pilot Johnny Meyers and Paul E. Tuntland. However while it showed some promise, the aircraft's lack of emergency exits, lack of good lateral visibility for the co-pilot, poor loading ramps, and other deficiencies made it a tough sell to the Air Force. Time was also against the glider, as there was little interest in new models after June, 1944, and while Bowlus believed that there would be a post-war role for gliders as cargo aircraft, it never developed. After the USAAF terminated the contract, no production models of the aircraft were made and the plane shown here likely ended up as toothpicks.

Today Hawley Bowlus is most widely known for his key role in the design of Airstream travel trailers, which followed his prior famed work as the Superintendent of Construction on Charles Lindbergh's aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis.
Bowlus was an expert at soaring flight and at building gliders, established numerous records, trained many of America's earliest glider pilots, and gave gliding lessons to both Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh. In 1930 he and Lindbergh glided at various locations in California. Most notably Point Loma in San Diego California where Bowlus conducted many of his flights and tests.
Charles Lindbergh established a regional distance record for gliders by flying in a Bowlus sailplane from Mount Soledad in La Jolla to Del Mar, making use of the lift at the Torrey Pines Gliderport. Anne Morrow Lindbergh also flew in a Bowlus sailplane from Mount Soledad and became the first woman in the United States to receive a first class glider license (Maxine Dunlap had preceded her in becoming the first woman in the United States to receive a glider license of any kind (a third class glider license). Bowlus was also the first American to break Orville Wright's 1911 soaring duration record in an American designed and built sailplane. Bowlus was inducted into the Soaring Hall of Fame in 1954.

First Flight in My New Sailplane
A short overview of my first flight in my new sailplane! This is an NG-1, experimental-homebuilt sailplane. It is based off of the BG-12 design. The flight was made at Texas Soaring Association earlier this month. Video was captured on a Gopro camera and the song is Shadows, Lindsey Stirling
UFO sightings in sky over Denver.
Strange objects caught on camera flying over the city and nobody can explain it.
We first learned about these sightings when a metro area man, who does not want to be identified brought us his home video. He captured the images on his digital camera from a hilltop in Federal Heights looking south toward downtown Denver.
He said, The flying objects appear around noon or 1:00 p.m. at least a couple of times a week. The strangest part is they are flying too fast to see with the naked eye, but when we slowed down the video, several UFOs appear.
We altered the color contrast to make it easier to see. You can take a look for yourself by watching the video clip.
We wanted to verify the video we saw was legitimate and not doctored in anyway. So our photojournalist set up his camera in the same spot, and shot video from just before noon until just after 1:00 p.m. He also captured something unexplained on video.
Aviation expert Steve Cowell is a former commercial pilot, instructor and FAA accident prevention counselor.
He thought he would have a logical explanation, until he watched the video. That is not an airplane, that is not a helicopter, those are not birds, I can't identify it, he said. He also told us the objects are not insects.
He said he knows of no aircraft that flies as fast. He did tell us there is one other possibility. Perhaps there's some sort of debris that is being raised up by some of the atmospheric winds.
But in his professional opinion, As it fits the definition, it's an unidentified flying object.
The FAA tracks all air traffic in Colorado and across the country. The FAA sent us a statement that says, We`ve checked with air traffic control and no one has had any reports of the activity you described...nor have any of our employees observed anything of this nature either visually or on their radar displays.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command is located in Colorado Springs. It keeps an eye on the skies in case of an air attack against the United States.
NORAD sent us this statement, Our Command Center reviewed their records and they did not have any noted air activity in the Denver area during the times you indicated.
The man who brought the video to our attention believes the UFOs are launching and landing near 56th Ave. and Clay Street in Denver. A Map shows only homes in the area.

Springtime ride through Monument Valley on a Harley Davidson,
Oljato–Monument Valley is a census-designated place in San Juan County, Utah, United States. The population was 864 at the 2000 census.
A good friend of mine took a springtime 2000 mile ride.
This is the part of the ride where he went through Monument Valley, is video has been cut down to 18 minutes in this video.
You will recognize some of the scenery from the movie Forest Gump, It shows nothing other than sitting on the motorcycle and riding down the highway.
If you've never been in this part of America you may want to watch it in its entirety.
Otherwise you may be bored.
