Rehoboth Beach Delaware summer sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean USA
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, USA
Rehoboth Beach is a city along the Atlantic Ocean in eastern Sussex County, Delaware.
The town of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware often bills itself as The Nation's Summer Capital due to the fact that it is a frequent summer vacation destination for Washington, D.C., residents (121.78 miles / 2 hrs 46 mins from The White House)
Vacationers are drawn for many reasons, including the town's charm, tax free shopping and famous for its beaches, wooden boardwalk, eclectic shops, amusements, and sporting activities
Rehoboth Beach is one of the principal cities of Delaware's rapidly growing Cape Region.
In 2011, the NRDC Natural Resources Defense Council awarded Rehoboth Beach with a 5-Star rating in water quality.
Out of the 30 states with coastline, the Delaware Beaches ranked number one in water quality in 2011.
Rehoboth Beach is also known as one of the mid-Atlantic coast's popular LGBT Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender - gay-friendly getaways because of the large number of gay-owned and operated businesses and because of the gay-frequented stretch of beach near Queen Street, known as Poodle Beach.
Dogfish Head Brewery's original brewpub is located on the town's main strip Rehoboth Avenue.
Rehoboth (Hebrew: רְחוֹבוֹת) means broad spaces. It appears three times in the Old Testament as a place name: a well dug by Isaac (at modern Wadi er-Ruheibeh) (Gen. 26:22), a city on the Euphrates River (Gen. 36:37; 1 Chr. 1:48), and one of the cities of Asshur (Gen. 10:11). Hence the name may have had a special appeal for the religious founders of the city, although the adjacent bay had already borne the name Rehoboth for at least a century before the town was founded.
In September CAMP Rehoboth Community Center / Letters from CAMP magazine hosts an annual Labor Day weekend event called SUNDANCE with an fundraiser auction and dance party at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
CAMP Rehoboth is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, gay and lesbian community service organization, originally developed to “Create A More Positive” relationship among all the people of the Rehoboth Beach area.
Each October Rehoboth Beach hosts the Annual Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddlers Festival ( Happy Halloween - The Blessed Samhain Festival - Autumn Holidays Celebration) with a parade, Trick or Treat, and the very popular broom tossing event right at the beach.

Woodland Park, New Jersey - Drone Flight Over Garret Mountain Reservation (2018)
Garret Mountain Reservation is a 568-acre (230 ha) park located primarily in Woodland Park in southern Passaic County, New Jersey, United States and one of several National Natural Landmarks in New Jersey.
The reservation covers the northernmost part of the First Watchung Mountain and reaches over 500 feet (150 m) above sea level. Most of it is located within the Borough of Woodland Park (formerly West Paterson), although it also extends into the cities of Paterson and Clifton. Garret Mountain is easily accessible from both I-80 and the Garden State Parkway (via Route 19) as well as the local roads.
Garret Mountain is Passaic County's major recreational area, providing the visitors with grass fields, several miles of walking/running trails, basketball courts, picnic areas, Barbour's Pond is state stocked with fish for anglers, as well as an Equestrian Center with horseback riding lessons.
Since the park is an oasis of woodland surrounded by urbanity, Garret Mountain is a stopover point for migrating song birds, including 35 species of warblers, numerous vireos, orioles, sparrows and thrushes. Birdwatchers from the tri-state areas flock to this hotspot for great views of over 150 species per year along the easily accessible trails.
Lambert Castle, located on the eastern slope of the First Watchung Mountain, just off Route 19, is a 19th-century castle which has been recently renovated and now hosts the Passaic County Museum (open to the public). The Morris Canal once passed 0.2 miles (300 m) east of the castle. Up until 1962, the right-of-way now occupied by I-80 and Route 19 around Garrett Mountain was part of the Boonton Line of the Lackawanna Railroad.
The Passaic County Parks Department operates the park while the Passaic County Sheriff is responsible for law enforcement in the reservation. For the past several decades, the reservation has been the site of hundreds of high school and college cross country meets in the fall, including the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) High School State Sectional Championships at the end of every October.
Welcome Video - Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge - Closed Captioned
The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge protects more than 47,000 acres of southern New Jersey coastal habitats which is actively managed for migratory birds. The refuge’s location in one of the Atlantic Flyway’s most active flight paths makes it an important link in seasonal bird migration. Its value for the protection of water birds and their habitat continues to increase as people develop the New Jersey shore for our own use.
Forsythe is one of more than 555 refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The National Wildlife Refuge System is a network of lands and waters managed specifically for the protection of wildlife and wildlife habitat and represents the most comprehensive wildlife resource management program in the world. Units of the system stretch across the United States from northern Alaska to the Florida Keys, and include small islands in the Caribbean and South Pacific. The character of the refuges is as diverse as the nation itself.

Sandy leaves mark on some Pender County homes
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Sunday ordered the evacuation of 375 000 people in low-lying areas threatened by Hurricane Sandy.
This is a serious and dangerous storm, Bloomberg told a news conference as he ordered the mandatory evacuation ahead of the storm which is expected to start hitting on Monday.
Airlines have cancelled hundreds of flights into airports along the US east coast ahead of the arrival of a major storm, authorities said Sunday.
Air France cancelled all flights into New York and Washington on Monday while US airlines have called off hundreds of domestic flights. New York airports were to stay open on Sunday but the airport authority warned passengers to expect disruptions.
New York authorities ordered the subway, commuter trains and buses to close on Sunday ahead of the arrival of a feared super-storm.
The New York subway and regional buses will stop from 7pm state governor Mario Cuomo announced as he warned that the impending storm was not something to be taken lightly.
Frankenstorm
Hurricane Sandy shadowed the east coast of the United States on Sunday, raking the Carolinas with stinging rains and high waves as authorities braced for the potentially devastating Frankenstorm days before the US elections.
The looming superstorm played havoc with the US presidential race, with Barack Obama and Mitt Romney both cancelling campaign events and scrambling to rearrange schedules with the November 6 polls just nine days away.
President Barack Obama moved up a campaign trip to Florida Sunday so he could be back in Washington when the storm makes landfall, predicted for early Tuesday somewhere between Virginia and Massachusetts.
At 1200 GMT, the storm was 420 kilometers southeast of Cape Hateras, North Carolina, packing sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.
Sandy earlier claimed at least 66 lives in the Caribbean, most of them in impoverished, quake-ravaged Haiti where 51 people were reported killed.
Though still far out at sea, the storm was already making its presence felt on US territory, spinning off high winds and seas for hundreds of miles around.
Television images from North Carolina's Outerbanks, a chain of low lying barrier islands, showed wild surf and pelting wind-driven rains that offered a foretaste of conditions to come further north.
The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) warned residents to expect life-threatening storm surge flooding to the Mid-Atlantic coast, including Long Island Sound and New York Harbour.
At the National Weather Service, forecasters warned the storm would result in significant impacts along coastal North Carolina beginning late Saturday.
Current projections show the storm making landfall early Tuesday on the coast of Delaware at near hurricane strength, then bending north and inland as it merges with a cold front descending from Canada.
Weather experts say that collision of a rain-laden tropical storm with a cold front is an explosive mix, creating a super-charged weather system bringing floods, high winds and even heavy snow across a swath of eastern states and as far inland as Ohio.
Nor'easter on steroids
Anticipating the worst, governors declared states of emergency in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, the US capital Washington and a coastal county in North Carolina.
This is a large storm that is forecasted to impact the Mid-Atlantic and other parts of the East Coast with strong winds, coastal flooding, inland flooding, rain and snow, said Craig Fugate, head of the US Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Sandy will be more like a large nor'easter on steroids, wrote Alex Sosnowski, a senior meteorologist for Accuweather.com, who said it could lead to billions of dollars in damage.
In Delaware, Governor Jack Markell issued an evacuation order, urging coastal residents and those in flood-prone areas to leave their homes and to stay safe.
Please take this evacuation order seriously. It will help save lives of both residents and first responders, he said in a message on Twitter.
New Jersey also ordered evacuations for its southern coastline, including Cape May and Atlantic counties and Long Beach Island. The governor also ordered all gambling shut down in beach-side Atlantic City starting at 3pm on Sunday.
Tolls were suspended on the northbound and westbound lanes of the state's major highways to help residents leave more quickly
As the Seas Rise, Can We Restore Our Coastal Habitats?
Steven Handel, Distinguished Professor of Ecology and Evolution, Rutgers University Visiting Professor in Landscape Architecture, Graduate School of Design, Harvard University
As sea levels rise, the potential loss of coastal habitats is a threat across the globe. This is of particular concern in the eastern United States, where coastlines are largely developed and offer few open spaces for habitats to move inland if present natural lands are lost. Considering the current conditions of coastlines, as well as future development scenarios, Steven Handel will discuss strategies to help maintain our coastal character and the ecological services of coastal habitats that are critical to the social, cultural, and environmental well-being of our region.

Conserving the Sweetgrass Tradition | Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe
To the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of southeastern Massachusetts, sweetgrass is more than an ordinary-looking grass with a nice aroma. It’s an important ceremonial and medicinal plant. In recent years, however, the tribe has been losing local access to this native Cape Cod plant. So, they teamed up with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s local field office and the agency’s Plant Materials Center in Cape May, New Jersey on a project to bring sweetgrass back by propagating it on the tribe's 39-acre farm in Mashpee, Massachusetts.
