The Nu'alolo trail loop is an 11 mile loop located in Kokee State Park on Kauai. It is a moderate hike and can be completed in 4-6 hrs. Nu'alolo Trail Kauai
This was my favorite hike in Kauai because of the jaw dropping end at Lolo Vista. The Nu'alolo Valley is amazingly beautiful with a 2000ft drop down into the valley. At the vista, you can see down the Napali coast with 4000ft cliffs. A scene from Six Days/Seven Nights was filmed here where Harrison Ford had a tantrum. Total hike is 7.6 miles. The hike is mostly downhill which makes for a pretty tough climb back up to get to your car, but the views at the end are worth it. Note: The Cliff Trail connecting the Nu'alolo trail with the Awa-'awapuhi Trail was still closed as of March, 2016.

End of the road, end of the trail. That's as far as I'm going.
Nualolo Trail, Kauai
We hiked on March 17, 2018 and the weather was nice and cool. However the temperature created a mist that blocked the beautiful view of the normally breath-taking Napali Coast. I guess we'll have to do the 8 miles again next trip!

Kaua'i - Nu'alolo Cliffs Trail
Stuart Ball lists this trail as the best day hike in Kaua'i and perhaps on the Hawaiian Islands. I can most certainly vouch for that! The vistas here are eye popping, jaw dropping, MIND BOGGLING! Nu'alolo Valley and the Na Pali Coast along with it are just simply spectacular, the world class of all world classes!
On this day, we started on the Awa'awapuhi Trail, crossed on over to the Nu'alolo Cliff Trails with the Lolo Vista Point at the end of that trail, and finally huffed and puffed our way back UP to the trailhead of Nu'alolo Trail to complete an 11 mile horse shoe (12 mile loop if you hike the final mile on Koke'e Rd from Nu'alolo trailhead to Awa'awa'puhi trailhead). We eliminated the final mile by parking two cars on both trailheads.
While not 'dangerous' (still be cautious with ANY trail ANYwhere), the views more than make up for the somewhat boring hike on the trail itself. I strongly recommend this hike!
However, the only catch is that during the start of the hike, one actually hikes down to the Lolo Vista Point and then climb back up seemingly forever back up to the trailhead. Keeping this in mind, don't get too overly excited while hiking to the vista point, you will need all the energy you can for the return leg, the leg that goes back up to the trailhead.
Hiking Kalepa Ridge Trail - Kauai, Hawaii
This unofficial trail is one of the most beautiful hike in Hawaii that's also not crowded at all. Kalepa Ridge Hike is an off the beaten path hike in Kauai, Hawaii. The hike travels along the famous Cathedrals of the Napali Coast of the north side of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The famous Napali Coast can normally only be seen by planes, helicopter or boats. The entrance to the hike is at the right side of the Kalalau Lookout on Koke’e Road

This is a video of the whole 11.5 mile loop starting with Nualolo Trail, crossing over with the Nualolo Cliffs trail, and then back up the Awaawapuhi Trail. The last 1.5 miles back to the lodge on the road is not captured.

Awaawapuhi - Ultimate view of Napali on Kauai
The Awaawapuhi Trail will take you on an ultimate journey as you ascend from 4,120 feet elevation in the Kokee State Park to the valley rim of Nualolo and Awa’awapuhi valleys at 2,500 feet. The trail will lead you through rain forest, high desert like terrain and to some of the most awe inspiring vistas on Kauai’s Napali Coast. Awa’awapuhi Trail is a continual downhill hike from the trail head to the grassy clearing overlooking the valleys.
The Napali Forest Reserve area is managed as wilderness because of the rich variety of native plant species that thrive here. After the first mile-and-a-half the forest begins to thin out and the rugged Napali coast comes into view as well as glimpses into the Awaawapuhi Valley. At about the three mile mark is the junction of the Nualolo Cliff Trail.
