Philosophy and Religious Studies Talk: Rabbi Alex Drucker & Mr Ben Freeman
The Philosophy and Religious Studies department of Harrow International School Hong Kong invited Rabbi Alex Drucker of the Ohel Leah Synagogue in Hong Kong, and Mr Ben Freeman, the Director of Education of Hong Kong Holocaust & Tolerance Centre to share the daily life of a jew with Year 7 students on 19 November 2015. They explained the customs such as the Kosher food laws of Orthodox Judaism and answered quirky questions about Jewish culture!
The students found this an invaluable learning experience. The opportunity to see first hand how beliefs and values can shape someones life, as well as being able to understand the difference between those who identity themselves as Orthodox or Secular in Jewish community, will only help the student's understanding of the religion faith and culture.

HONG KONG: US RELIGIOUS LEADERS COMPLETE TOUR OF CHINA
English/Nat
Three American religious leaders who have just completed a tour to mainland China claim their mission has helped raise the profile of freedom of religion in the country.
Representing Jews, Catholics and the Evangelical Church, the three leaders were invited to China by President Jiang Zemin as a gesture towards improving relations between the two countries.
The U-S clerics then travelled to Hong Kong for a meeting with Chief Executive, Tung Chee Hwa.
Hong Kong was the last port of call for the U-S clerics, and their talks on Friday with Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa was their last high profile meeting.
Rabbi Arthur Schneier, Archbishop Theodore McCarrick and Dr. Don Argue, President of the U-S-based National Association of Evangelicals, have just finished an 18 day fact finding mission to mainland China, including a trip to the Tibetan capital Lhasa.
The three U-S clerics were invited to China by President Jiang Zemin as a gesture to improve U-S-Chinese relations.
They were given high-level access - even meeting the president.
Hong Kong is the only part of China where Roman Catholics may swear allegiance to the pope as the head of the Catholic church.
China does not recognise the Vatican and forbids its citizens in the mainland from professing allegiance to it.
When China took over Hong Kong from Britain in 1997, it promised to allow full religious freedom.
Five percent of Hong Kong's population are practising Catholics.
About the same number are Protestants.
The Jewish community is small and almost entirely composed of foreign nationals.
The Christian church plays an important role in providing social welfare and schooling.
The three American religious leaders said after their meeting with Tung Chee Hwa that they were impressed with the former British colony's tradition of religious freedom
And they had one final message to the people of Hong Kong.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The message that this is a very rich and diverse religious community that has made a traditionally wonderful contribution and it's a clear example of unity and diversity.

The U-S delegation is also planning to meet with human rights activists in Hong Kong before returning to America on Sunday.
They are expected to produce a report on their trip to China in one month's time.

Inside a Synagogue! (Hong Kong)
We were taught about the holocaust in our English class and we finally got the opportunity to experience inside a synagogue!
We definitely learned more about Jews and their culture.
So I thought I would share a bit of it with y'all.

Access Asia through SuperFeed and SFTI
Trading in the dynamic arena of Asian markets presents new challenges as well as investment opportunities. Juggling multiple connections and divergent market data feeds can seriously tax a financial firm's infrastructure and inhibit growth. Connectivity from Asia to Europe and the U.S. has traditionally been expensive, with long lead times and lacking fiber-route visibility.
NYSE Technologies has expanded its existing US and EU network to Asia, starting with Singapore and Tokyo, and more recently extending to Hong Kong.

[Wikipedia] Robinson Road, Hong Kong
Robinson Road is a road in the Mid-levels, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. In the east, it is connected with the Magazine Gap Road and Garden Road, and in the west with Babington Road and Park Road. The escalator connecting Central to Mid-levels crosses between Mosque Street and Conduit Road, below which Robinson Road runs parallel. It was named after the fifth Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Hercules Robinson. As early as the 1870s, Robinson Road had an enviable reputation, housing the European upper-middle class of its time. The area remains one of the most affluent in Hong Kong.
Historic Ohel Leah Synagogue is located on the northern side of the western end of the street. Parts of the walls in Robinson Road have been recently declared as protected monuments. These walls are very old with thick roots embedded in them. Robinson Road is largely residential and, in keeping with area, lined with high-rises. There are a number of property agents located along the road.
