One visit per week for Shenzhen residents (13.4.2015)
Shenzhen authorities have announced that multiple-entry individual visit endorsements for Shenzhen residents will be limited to one visit per week from today, Chief Executive CY Leung has said.
Mr Leung told reporters this morning that multiple-entry visas that have already been issued will not be affected by the new policy, so it will take some time before its effect can be seen.
He added that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government had put forward its proposal for visa curbs to the Central Government last June because of growing concerns about the city's capacity to handle an increasing number of visitors.
The Chief Executive explained that it had taken nearly a year for the Central authorities to announce the new policy because it was a major move that needed preparatory work.
He also thanked the Central, Guangdong and Shenzhen authorities for their understanding.
Stressing that the new restrictions are meant to crack down on illegal parallel trading activities, Mr Leung said Hong Kong welcomes travellers from the Mainland and all over the world, adding that the Government will launch promotional campaigns soon to attract more visitors to the city. (

Hou Wei, Vice President of Hainan Airlines - Beijing to Las Vegas - Unravel Travel TV
Hou Wei, Vice President of Hainan Airlines announced (4th August 2016) on the Las Vegas Strip that the airline will begin direct service to Las Vegas from Beijing starting in December, 2016.
Chinese tourists are one of the fastest-growing and largest-spending groups of international visitors to Las Vegas. With the reciprocal 10-year tourist visas and the introduction of hotels, programming and amenities geared toward Chinese visitors, Las Vegas has established itself as a major draw for Chinese traveling to the United States. “With the expansion of tourist activity between China and Las Vegas, Hainan is proud to provide the very first nonstop service to this exciting market,” said Mr. Hou Wei, vice president of Hainan. “Hainan’s award-winning service and elite experience complement the dynamism and vibrancy of Las Vegas. This is a further reflection of our long-term commitment to our customers in China and the U.S.” added Mr. Hou. The new route is part of Hainan’s large-scale expansion in North America. On the west coast, Hainan already operates nonstop service between Silicon Valley (SJC) and Beijing, Los Angeles (LAX) and Changsha, and from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Beijing and Shanghai. This complements the airline’s nonstop routes between Beijing and Chicago, Boston, Calgary and Toronto, and between Shanghai and Boston. “Nonstop international service is increasingly important at McCarran International Airport, and China has long been among our most sought-after markets,” said Clark County Aviation Director Rosemary Vassiliadis, who oversees operations at the eighth-busiest airport in the United States. “We are grateful for our new partnership with Hainan Airlines, and look forward to welcoming its world-class service to our state-of-the-art airport here in Las Vegas.”
Hainan flight 7970 will depart Las Vegas McCarran International Airport at 12:30 p.m. and arrive Beijing’s Capital Airport at 5:30 p.m. the subsequent day, allowing for connections to other points in China. Flight 7969 will depart Beijing at 2:20pm and arrive Las Vegas at 10:30am the same day. Las Vegas times are one hour later during the summer season. Nonstop flight time is approximately 13 hours westbound and 12 hours eastbound. “We are extremely proud to welcome Hainan Airlines to Las Vegas with their convenient, premium-service for Chinese visitors,” said Rossi Ralenkotter, president/CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA.) “China is an area where we have seen steady growth in visitation and we will continue to focus on experiences and amenities that cater to our Chinese guests. With these first-ever flights from China to Las Vegas, we are anticipating more than $33.5 million in annual economic impact.” The new nonstop service will be flown by Boeing 787 Dreamliners with 34 business class lie-flat seats and 177 economy class seats. Hainan is the airline with the most nonstop 787 Dreamliner routes between China and North America.
The announcement comes on the heels of another momentous milestone for Hainan Airlines. On 30th June 2016, Hainan announced a new collaboration with DreamWorks Animation to feature the “Kung Fu Panda” film franchise on Hainan’s award-winning fleet. Up to six specially designed “Kung Fu Panda”-themed liveries will showcase characters and scenes from the blockbuster film franchise on Hainan’s new 787-9 Dreamliners. Hainan Airlines is Mainland China’s largest independent airline, and is the only Mainland Chinese airline with a perfect five-star rating from Skytrax, the international airline ratings agency, six years in a row. Members of Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan may earn or redeem points on Hainan Airlines flights. Members of Hainan’s own frequent flyer program, the Fortune Wings Club, may earn and redeem points for travel worldwide. Business class passengers enjoy priority check-in and luxurious seats that convert to fully-flat beds. Gourmet Chinese and Western cuisine as well as award-winning wines, freshly brewed espresso and high-quality teas are available. Amenity kits feature Bulgari® cosmetics. A state of the art entertainment system offers over 100 movies, audio selections and games on demand. Premium passengers can also reserve complimentary private chauffeured car service between home, the airport and their destination in both the U.S. and China.
Once D.O.T. approval is received, Hainan Airlines flights will be available through all travel agents and travel websites, as well as online at hainanairlines.com

Reaching China’s Silver Generation - Thoughtful China
China’s senior citizens are largely ignored by mainstream marketing and communications efforts, a major mistake say experts Tom Doctoroff, Matthieu David, Kevin Gentle, Kitty Lun and Kunal Sinha this week on “Thoughtful China.” Not only do they represent real spending power in their own right, they can wield enormous influence on big-ticket purchases by their children and grandchildren on things like property, cars, travel and education.
Highway through a Building Story ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Osaka's Gate Tower Building is an amazing sight to see because ... well, how should I put this? A highway goes through the building.
It literally does, and there is a story behind it.
In this episode, John not only goes inside to see where the elevator takes him, he also drives through it -- in a Lotus Seven. We'll also go up the Umeda Sky Building and catch some fantastic angles of the city, skyline and Gate Tower Building.
THE STORY:
Here it is from the building owner.
It’s basically a land rights dispute with a sort of happy ending.
The property was owned by a business (coal and wood company) since the early Meiji era but when business declined, so did the buildings in the 1970s. The area was approved to be redeveloped in 1983 but the property holder refused to give up the land, even though new building permits had been refused to him. The highway corporation and the property owner negotiated for 5 years and what you see today is their compromise. Highways usually buy the land they’re on but a new law in 1989 allowed the possibility of having two owners on the same spot, really meant for highways to go underground but hey – let’s get creative.
The highway is the legal tenant of floors 5 through 7.
The current building tenant on the other floors is TKP.
WHERE IS THE BUILDING WITH THE HIGHWAY THROUGH IT?
Google map:
Closest Station: JR Fukushima Station
It's one stop away from JR Osaka Station on the Loop Line.
Special thank you to TKP and the building owners for allowing me to film inside the building.

About:
Hong Kong Disneyland (Chinese: 香港迪士尼樂園) is a theme park located on reclaimed land in Penny's Bay, Lantau Island. It is located inside the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and it is owned and managed by the Hong Kong International Theme Parks. It is, together with Ocean Park Hong Kong, one of the two large theme parks in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Disneyland opened to visitors on Monday, 12 September 2005 at 13:00 HKT. Disney attempted to avoid problems of cultural backlash by incorporating Chinese culture, customs, and traditions when designing and building the resort, including adherence to the rules of feng shui. For instance, a bend was put in a walkway near the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort entrance so good qi energy wouldn't flow into the South China Sea.
The park consists of seven themed areas: Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, and Toy Story Land. The theme park's cast members speak Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. Guide maps are printed in traditional and simplified Chinese as well as English, Japanese, Thai, Malay and Indonesian.
The park has a daily capacity of 34,000 visitors — the lowest of all Disneyland parks. The park attracted 5.2 million visitors in its first year, below its target of 5.6 million. Visitor numbers fell 20% in the second year to 4 million, inciting criticisms from local legislators. However, the park attendance jumped by 8% in the third year, attracting a total of 4.5 million visitors in 2007. In 2009, the park attendance again increased by 2% to 4.8 million visitors. The attendance continued to surge and received 5.23 million guests in the 2009/2010 fiscal year. Since the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland, the theme park has hosted over 25 million guests. According to AECOM and TEA, Hong Kong Disneyland is the 13th most visited theme park in the world in 2013, with 7.4 million visitors. The park also turned a net profit of HK$109 million (US$13.97 million) for the year ended 29 September 2012, the first annual profit.
Hong Kong Disneyland currently occupies 27.5 hectares (68 acres) and hosts 7.92 million to 8.92 million visitors annually. The park capacity will increase to handle up to 10 million visitors annually over a 15-year expansion period.

Starfish Walking on the Beach
Shortcut to get back to this video: WalkingStarfish.com
It was early evening, probably around 6pm or so at low tide. We noticed there were starfish walking around on the sand near the water. Some were in tide pools but some were just strolling on the sand, very very very slowly. The ones that were on the sand we carefully relocated back to the ocean or a tide pool. Other people coming out to the beach were fascinated by the large amount of starfish and helped relocate the walkers to the water as well.
This was shot on the Outer Banks of North Carolina (specifically Corolla, NC) in early October 2012. Almost the exact same spot on the beach that a WWII mine washed up in late September 2017 (
Also, to clear up the questions about the foot in the video. It's my son's foot and he was squatting down. He was 4 at the time of the video. Looks like a strange deformed thing but it's just a normal 4 year old's foot.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: BARBIE DOLL
English/Nat BARBIE'S BIG IN CHINA TOO
Just about every other city in the world has celebrated Barbie's 40th birthday this month. So today it was the turn of Hong Kong to pay homage to the 12 inch wonder girl who doesn't look or act her age.
To celebrate her milestone anniversary, a restropective Barbie display went on show in a busy Hong Kong Shopping Mall.
In the collection of human-sized dolls is the original 1959 Barbie model, created by the American Mrs Ruth Handler.
She based the doll, considerably less blonde and less curvy than today's models, on her daughter.
Barbie didn't take long to attain legendary status. That fame spread to Asia twenty years ago.
Now representatives from Mattel, Barbie's parent company, believe the one-child policy in China will only serve to increase Barbie's marketability in the region.
A special Barbie was created to mark Hong Kong's handover to China in 1997.
The Chinese Empress dolls became collectors' items, with only five thousand released to shops.
Now, only two years later, the dolls fetch around 250 U-S dollars each.
Mattel Limited is also planning to hold a Barbie workshop in Hong Kong in two week's time for collectors.
Some people wonder why Barbie, a blonde, blue-eyed, all-American-looking doll has such universal appeal.
In fact Barbie dolls are available dressed in the national costume of over 40 countries worldwide, although her features remain European.
But most still prefer the blonde version.
Certainly here Barbie's fans can't imagine a truly oriental version.
In her 40-year lifespan, Barbie has had 75 careers, ranging from being a teenage fashion model to a doctor, teacher, astronaut to a presidential candidate.
Her and boyfriend Ken have played at being agents Mulder and Scully from the television series the X-files.
Amazingly she hasn't aged a day. And nor does her popularity seem to wane.

China Stirs Up Patriotism by Sending Tourists to Mao's Old Haunts
As China prepares to mark the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic on Tuesday, the party has been exploiting its history to reinforce ideology — especially to those in positions of influence. Behind the holiday spirit is President Xi Jinping’s campaign to bring the party, and the country, in line — a campaign that also includes feared anti-corruption measures and endless political inspections.
The party is encouraging this patriotic nostalgia to bolster support in an economic slowdown and to cement backing for Xi as he combats months of civil unrest in Hong Kong and external challenges from a more assertive U.S. under President Donald Trump.
“Efforts under the Xi administration to revive and amplify communist orthodoxy are directly tied to the CCP’s concern over its political legitimacy and regime stability,” said Jude Blanchette, author of “China’s New Red Guards: The Return of Radicalism and the Rebirth of Mao Zedong.” “Xi fears that if the Chinese people aren’t consistently reminded of the great and glorious achievements of the CCP, they will treat it with indifference or worse, hostility.”
As Xi put it in a 2016 speech: “Only by experiencing the hardships of revolutionary era can people truly receive education.” The Chinese leader has argued that red tourism could provide the country with a “spiritual red baptism.”
To push this vision, the government earmarked 2.64 billion yuan ($370 million) to develop red tourism between 2016 and 2020, turning it into big business. Trips to sites associated with the country’s communist revolution accounted for 10% of domestic tourism spending in the first half of 2018, according to government statistics. State media estimate red tourism sites get 800 million visits a year.
Xi’s endorsement has encouraged Chinese business leaders to join the trend and send employees on red tours to show loyalty to the party.
Chiefs of 45 Chinese technology companies including Tencent Holdings Ltd.-backed Zhihu and Kuaishou went on a trip to Fujian to study CCP history and ideology in June. Wang Jianlin, the billionaire founder of Dalian Wanda Group, is planning a 1.7 billion dollar theme park in Yanan to mark the 100th anniversary of the party’s founding in 2021.

Investigation Discovers Some Hotel Rooms Have Hidden Cameras Installed
A Pennsylvania family was horrified to discover a hidden camera recording them in their hotel room, but are they the only ones being watched? The Wallace family said they found a concealed recording device in their room at a Virginia Beach hotel over Memorial Day weekend. Angela Wallace, her husband and 11-year-old daughter found the camera pointed at the shower during their stay at The Knights Inn and Suites. The Inside Edition investigative team went to the hotel and approached the manager.
