Portland - City Video Guide
Portland, Oregon, is located in the Northwestern United States, where the Willamette and Columbia Rivers meet.
Portland is sometime called 'Beervana', because of its large number of microbreweries. The Willemette Valley, meanwhile, is an excellent wine-growing region.
At the heart of Portland is the amphitheater on Pioneer Courthouse Square. The Portland Art Museum here is the oldest museum in the region. The Tom McCall Waterside Park is a good spot for people-watching. Several bridges give access to the east bank, where the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is located.
Portland's climate is ideal for growing roses, showcased in the International Rose Test Garden. The nearby Japanese Garden is one of the most authentic outside of Asia. Washington Park offers lush gardens and trails. Oregon Zoo is a family favorite. Opposite this is the Portland Children's Museum.
Benson Bridge provides the best vantage point for the stunning Multnomah Falls. Viewing points around the National Volcanic Monument show off the active Mount St Helens.

Portland, Oregon, is without a doubt one of the hippest cities in the United States.
With a highly active art scene, more craft breweries than you'll know what to do with, and some freakin' weird things to see and do too, Portland is one of the hottest places to be in right now. Add in those chilled vibes of the Pacific Northwest and it's become a hipsters haven and a desirable destination for tourists, so we just had to check it out for ourselves.
In this episode we explore the weird and the wonderful in all Portland has to offer. From the freaky Peculiarium museum with a giant 10ft Sasquatch to the 2ft tiny world's smallest park, we did it all.
In between all the craft breweries there's the food truck district to explore with a million different cuisines to choose from, and we had to go back in time at Ground Kontrol, the 90's arcade where we felt like big kids again.
And of course, we couldn't come to Portland without having a night out on the tiles. With an array of amazing bars and clubs to choose from, this city completely changes once it goes from daylight to dusk.
Portland is a city that prides itself on its own kookiness, and it doesn’t look like that's going to change any time soon. As they say, keep weird, Portland.

Japanese Prints Abroad in Portland: The Mary Andrews Ladd Collection
Jeannie Kenmotsu, Ph.D., Japan Foundation Assistant Curator of Japanese Art, Portland Art Museum
Japanese woodblock prints were met with an enthusiastic audience abroad in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. In Europe and the United States, tens of thousands of prints were bought and sold, exhibitions and record-breaking auctions staged, and a new passion kindled for private collectors. Most of what we know about early American print collecting has been focused on the East Coast—donations that were the basis for the world-class museum collections in Boston, New York, and Chicago. Lesser-known but just as significant was the donation of the Mary Andrews Ladd collection of Japanese prints to the Portland Art Museum in 1932. Drawing on the Museum’s archives, period records, and the collection itself, this lecture explores this transformational gift of nearly 750 Edo-period (1603–1868) woodblock prints, and expand the story of early Japanese print collecting in the United States.

As some of you know I am in Portland Oregon for my Uncle's funeral. He was a United States Marine and all of the military veterans in our family are attending in uniform.
Portland only has a couple surplus stores in the area and we found that Aloha Surplus in Aloha Oregon had the absolute best selection of ribbons, medals and pins for all branches of the service.
Uniform patches are hard to find still, especially Navy ones but these guys are the go to place for ribbons and all the little insignias that go along with them as well.
My cousin and I both have 11 ribbons and they had every single one on hand which saved us time and money since its expensive to expedite shipping.
If you need uniform supplies or you just want to visit a cool surplus store, you have to stop by Aloha Surplus if you are ever in the Portland Oregon area.

Streetcars (Trams) in Portland, Oregon
The Portland Streetcar is a streetcar system in Portland, Oregon, that opened in 2001 and serves areas surrounding downtown Portland. The 3.9-mile (6.3 km) NS Line runs from Northwest Portland to the South Waterfront via Downtown and the Pearl District. The Loop Service, which opened in September 2012 as the Central Loop (CL Line), runs from Downtown to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry via the Pearl District, the Broadway Bridge across Willamette River, the Lloyd District, and the Central Eastside Industrial District and added 3.3 miles (5.3 km) of route. In September 2015 the line was renamed as the Loop Service, with the A Loop traveling clockwise, and the B Loop traveling counterclockwise. The two-route system serves some 20,000 daily riders.

The Portland Saturday Market is an outdoor arts and crafts market in Portland, Oregon. It is the largest continuously operated outdoor market in the United States.It is held every Saturday and Sunday from the beginning of March through December 24, in Tom McCall Waterfront Park underneath Burnside Bridge and south of the bridge, as well as within an adjacent plaza just across Naito Parkway, extending west to the Skidmore Fountain.[3] The market's hours of operations are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m on Sundays, and admission is free.[2] The market is accessible by foot, bicycle, Segway, and TriMet's MAX Light Rail line which stops near the market at the Skidmore Fountain stop. The market has over 400 members and generates an estimated $12 million in gross sales annually. It has become a central economic engine for the historic Old Town Chinatown neighborhood, and attracts an estimated 750,000 visitors to this area each year.

1. Crater Lake National Park - There is beauty in destruction. Definitely a must see. There is a scenic road around the lake with plenty of pull offs for sight seeing. There are also hiking trails for better views as well.
2. Multnomah Falls - The falls are absolutely stunning. Absolutely a must for any trips to the Columbia gorge area.

4. The Town of Bend - The City of Bend serves the community, focusing on core services such as public safety, utilities, economic and community development.
5. Washington Park, Portland - This is a beautiful quiet space located just outside of Portland down town district. It is a great place to take children. It has many spaces for taking a short walk or just sitting to relax.
6. Mount Hood National Forest - Beautiful views here. The hike to the lake is easy for beginners, with a rewarding view on the side of the lake. Dispersed camping available in a pristine spot.

8. Oregon Coast Trail - a long distance hiking route along the Pacific coast of Oregon in the United States.
9. Willamette National Forest - Very beautiful forest. Roads were not bad at all. Very quiet and peaceful.

11. Willamette Heritage Center at The Mill - This place is awesome. So much to see that it will take some serious investment of time. Very much worth the price of admission.
12. Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art - explore this lovely Art Museum. It offers a nice variety and was a fantastic thing to do on a rainy day. Is fun to walk around the campus and enjoy the gorgeous trees.
13. Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area - Great hike. Nice trail then dunes then forest and then land on the beach. The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area encompasses so much.
14. Hell's Canyon National Recreation Area - Awesome place, highly recommend making time for this gem. Beautiful scenery, great lakes, and wonderful vista views make this place a must see.

16. Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area - The view of the gorge was breathtaking.
17. Oregon Coast Aquarium - Unique aquarium. A great place to take kids of all ages including yourself.

19. Oregon Zoo - Beautiful zoo. Display areas are thoughtfully designed to provide good habitat for the animals.

22. Oneonta Gorge Oregon - Oneonta gorge is one of the major attraction near Portland, OR. Trail starts with crossing log jam (difficult part of this trek). Many turned down seeing the huge log pile up. (risky to climb and cross) still doable.
23. Trillium Lake - Trillium lake has an excellent view of Mt. Hood and the campsite was clean and spacious. Both sunset and sunrise was breath taking. The hike around the lake was easy and refreshing.

US WEST COAST ROAD TRIP

The final part of our West Coast USA Road Trip, featuring the last few stops of our itinerary in Portland and Seattle. Taking things at a casual pace as usual, we explored Portland via a Farmer's Market for breakfast and the Pearl District for some photography and a few stops at some breweries. Taking things east of the city, we ventured out to Multnomah Falls via Latourell Falls along the Columbia River.
Our final stop for the trip was a few days in Seattle, where we explored the Pike Place Market, Washington State Ferry out to Bainbridge Island and of course multiple views of the iconic Space Needle from downtown, the Columbia Tower, Kerry Park and even the Gas Works Park.
We were treated with some extremely pleasant weather and joined by a fellow creative, Vince Perry, along the way. It's always fantastic to meet up with other creatives and especially great to finally put a face to the comments of a consistent viewer over the last few years. Until next time, Vince...

Hank Willis Thomas: All Things Being Equal…features more than 90 works including early photographic series, recent sculptures based on archival photographs taken during historic 20th-century events, quilts constructed from commercial sports jerseys and prison uniforms, video installations, interactive two-dimensional and time-based works, and public art projects. In addition, the Museum has supported the creation of a new and monumental flag-based work addressing lives lost to gun violence in the United States in 2018 that will serve as the entry point to the exhibition.
