Portland is a city located in the U.S. state of Oregon, near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. As of the 2010 Census, it had a population of 583,776, estimated to have reached 587,865 in 2012 making it the 28th most populous city in the United States. Approximately 2,289,800 people live in the Portland metropolitan area (MSA), the 19th most populous MSA in the United States.
Portland was incorporated in 1851 near the end of the Oregon Trail and is the county seat of Multnomah County. The city has a commission-based government headed by a mayor and four other commissioners as well as Metro, a distinctive regional government. The city is noted for its superior land-use planning and investment in light rail.Because of its public transportation networks and efficient land-use planning, Portland has been referred to as one of the most environmentally friendly, or green, cities in the world.
Located in the Marine west coast climate region, Portland has a climate marked by both warm, dry summers and wet, cool-to-chilly winter days. This climate is ideal for growing roses. For more than a century, Portland has been known as the City of Roses, with many rose gardens -- most prominently the International Rose Test Garden. The city is also known for its abundant outdoor activities, liberal political values, and beer and coffee enthusiasm. Portland is home to a collection of independent microbreweries, microdistilleries and food carts that contribute to the unofficial but widely utilized[citation needed] slogan Keep Portland Weird.

Steamer 'Portland' Cruising the Willamette River
Some videos clips and images from a cruise on the 'Portland' from the Burnside Bridge up the Willamette River to it's confluence with the Columbia River and return. July 18, 2015
The Portland is the last steam-powered, sternwheel tugboat to be built in the US, and is the last operating sternwheel steam towboat in the United States. The Port of Portland took delivery on August 29, 1947 and she immediately went into service. The Portland assisted ships to dock, turn and pass through the narrow bridge spans on the Willamette River. Her massive rudders and backing power were essential for moving loaded ocean-going ships. The Portland is the last operating sternwheel steam towboat in the United States.

Historic Downtown Portland Tour
The essential introduction to Portland. We’ll hop on well-traveled bike lanes stopping to admire the views of downtown, the river and the city’s many bridges. Then we ride along the waterfront past the brick and cast iron fronted buildings of Old Town built in the 19th and early 20th century.
Next our tour will head into Chinatown where the streets once teemed with immigrants from all over the world. From there we’ll roll through the Pearl District where turn-of-the-century warehouses have been turned into art galleries, shops and restaurants surrounded by soaring glass residences. Our tour stops at several of the Pearl’s most interesting places!
We’ll pass Henry Weinhard’s 140 year old brewery and a fortress-like armory turned theater before pointing our handlebars south to downtown. The tour cruises past a number of our favorite food carts before entering the South Park Blocks - separated from the North blocks by a century of legal battles. We’ll pedal through Oregon’s largest university then turn downhill to the waterfront and the Willamette River, lifeblood of the city and state. Finally we’ll ride downriver on car-free paths before coming full circle back where we started, perfectly energized.
Portland City Grill Quick Tour

TRAVEL MOVIE | Roadtrip Oregon: Portland, Mount Hood and more • Amerika
In the beginning of 2015 we made a roadtrip through Oregon in the USA. From the airport we went straight to Mount Hood while making a stop at places like Bridges of the Gods and Multnomahfalls. Next on our trip was Dayton and McMinnville where we tried some of the best wines at different wineries. Ofcourse Depoe Bay was on our list and there we did some whale watching and afterwards we tried Oysters in Newport. During our roadtrip we also went to Eugene and ended our roadtrip in the always lovely Portland. A place where you could stay forever, not only the atmosphere is great in the Portland and the people really nice. Also the food is amazing and you have a lot of nice places where you can chill.
