For nearly two decades, a 500-metre stretch of Sai Yeung Choi Street South in Hong Kong’s bustling Mong Kok district served as a stage for amateur singers, musicians, dancers and other street performers. The street was closed off to traffic on weekends to accommodate the thousands of people who flocked to the lively pedestrian zone, which became a go-to destination for tourists as well as locals. But the government’s decision to close the Mong Kok pedestrian zone due to increasing complaints by residents means these performers now have to find a new stage. Chan Kim-hung and Jacqueline Lau spent seven years singing on Sai Yeung Choi Street South. This is the story of their last weekend performing in Mong Kok.

Lam Fat, a street singer in Hong Kong's most bustling neighborhood wants his voice heard as Mongkok's Sai Yeung Choi Street South is losing its uniqueness as a pedestrians-only thoroughfare. We will stop singing, but please leave the street alone, says the 57-year-old performer.

A dispute between mainland Chinese tourists and locals over a toddler urinating in a Hong Kong street has once again become a flash point in already tense cross-border relations. This time, the dispute ended in a scuffle that led to the arrest of a mainland couple, the parents of the toddler, and a massive online uproar in both Hong Kong and the mainland. Several video clips that have been widely circulated online did not capture the scenes of the toddler urinating, but show the young couple, carrying their two-year old boy, locked in a fierce quarrel with two local Hong Kong young men, as one of whom took photos of the scene at Sai Yeung Choi Street South in Mong Kok.
