Tai Po Market Info:
Tai Po Market or Tai Po Hui is the name of the non-administrative area within the modern day Tai Po New Town in the Tai Po District, in the New Territories, Hong Kong. However, its exact location changed from time to time. The area was established as a market town, which closely related to the modern day residential and commercial area Tai Po Old Market (or Tai Po Kau Hui) and had some relation with the present-day area Tai Wo (Tai Wo Estate).
Tai Wo Shi (Tai Wo Market), at modern-day Fu Shin Street, was established in 1892. The market town was later known as Tai Po Hui (Tai Po Market). The street currently consisted of post-Qing dynasty buildings, except a well and a Man Mo Temple. The temple, at the heart of the Fu Shin Street, is a declared monument of Hong Kong. The former railway station of the market town was converted into Hong Kong Railway Museum in the 1980s.
The market town Tai Wo displaced the old Tai Po market town (Tang's Tai Po Hui) as the rural town centre of the area, which also took the ownership of the name Tai Po Hui (Tai Po Market). Tai Po was one of the market towns that was selected to be expanded into a satellite town (new town) in 1972.

'Tai Po /ˌtaɪˈpoʊ/ is an area in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It refers to the vicinity of the traditional market towns in the area presently known as Tai Po Old Market or Tai Po Kau Hui (大埔舊墟) (the original Tai Po Market) on the north of Lam Tsuen River and the Tai Po Hui (the current Tai Po Market; historically Tai Wo Shi, literally Tai Wo market) on Fu Shin Street on the south of the Lam Tsuen River, near the old Tai Po Market railway station of the Kowloon-Canton Railway (British Section). Both market towns became part of the Tai Po New Town in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In present-day usage, Tai Po may refer to the area around the original market towns, the Tai Po New Town (Chinese: 大埔市), or the entire[according to whom?] Tai Po District.
Tai Po as a populated place, could be traced back to the Stone Age. Archaeological site in Yuen Chau Tsai, had discovered stone axe and pottery which was believed to be made in Neolithic era.[7] The indigenous inhabitants of Tai Po lived by clamming and pearl farming in Tai Po Hoi (literally Tai Po Sea; Tolo Harbour) since at least AD 963.[7] The pearl making business reached its peak during the Song Dynasty[citation needed] and started to decline gradually in the midst of the Ming Dynasty. Tai Po had been developed as a fishing port around the late Ming Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty.[citation needed] While a village that belong to the modern day Tai Po area, Wun Yiu (Chinese: 碗窰), had developed into a center of porcelain industry in the Ming dynasty.[8]
Tang clan migrated from the area north of the border of the modern day Hong Kong to the modern day the New Territories of Hong Kong in the Song dynasty of China. A branch of Tang clan was split from Lung Yeuk Tau of the modern day the New Territories, to establish the village in Tai Po Tau. The Tai Po Tau branch and Lung Yeuk Tau branch also founded the first Tai Po Hui the market town (also known as Tai Po Tau Hui), despite it is now defunct and the area now known as Tai Po Old Market. The area around the first market town, also lived other people that were not from the Tang clan. They formed an inter-villages alliance Tai Po Tsat Yeuk [zh] (literally Tai Po Seven Alliances; each alliance contained one or more villages). The inter-villages alliance founded another market town Tai Wo Shi (literally Tai Wo market) after the Qing government ruled that Tai Po Hui (Tai Po Tau Hui) was belonged to Tangs, other clans cannot open shops in Tang's market town. However, Tai Wo Shi replaced the original Tai Po Hui (Tai Po Tau Hui) as the main market, and took the name Tai Po Hui (anglicized as Tai Po Market). The old market town thus became Tai Po Kau Hui (anglicized as Tai Po Old Market; Jyutping: daai6 bou3 gau6 heoi1[nb 1]).
During the British colonial rule, a District Office, a police station, two railway stations: Tai Po Market railway station and Tai Po Kau railway station (in Tai Po Kau; Jyutping: daai6 bou3 gaau3[nb 1]) and other public facilities were built with-in the modern day area that belong to the new town and the administrative district. Most of them in close distance with the market town of Tai Po at that time.
In the 1970s, the Hong Kong government began to develop satellite towns: Tai Po Industrial Estate, the first industrial estate in Hong Kong was built in the reclaimed land of the former Tai Po Hoi in 1974; Tai Po was named as a site to built new town in 1979,[citation needed] which the government obtain lands by reclamation of the river mouth and Tai Po Hoi. The new town was also designed to incorporate and interact with the existing market town. The first public housing estate of Tai Po New Town: Tai Yuen Estate – was established in 1981. The population has soared to 320,000,[citation needed] and Tai Po New Town began to prosper following the completion of the Tolo Highway which were integrated with the older urban areas.
At present, due to the development of the new town, the place name Tai Po may refer to Tai Po New Town or the historical area centre Tai Po Market, or the Tai Po District (excluding exclave Sai Kung North) that cover the new town and Lam Tsuen Valley and other area. However, the boundary of Tai Po was not defined. In contrast, a namesake election constituency of Tai Po Market had its legally defined boundary, as well as Tai Po District; Tai Po New Town also had its officially defined boundary in urban planning regulation and law. Hong Kong From Above Tai Po Sha Lo Tong 2016 12 23
Hong Kong From Above
Location: Tai Po, Hong Kong
On Friday morning a took a trip up to Sha Lo Tung. Even though you are only a few KM from the heart of Tai Po, it's a place where you can get away from the big city feel.
The place is made of 2 villages, Cheung Uk and Lei Uk. Although, Chueng Uk, as far as I know, is the only place with residents. Right now they are in the process of revitalising the area and restoring farmland.
Also you can relax at the small tofu restaurant. For enquires Ph: 98545156.
How to get there? Well you can take the 20P from Tai Po Market MTR or the 20M from Tai Po Centre Bus Station. These green mini buses will take you to Fung Yuen. Follow the signs to the Butterfly Park. Next go past the Butterfly Park and take the first path on the right. This will take up to the road to Sha Lo Tung. When you get to the road turn left and follow the road the end. About 1.5hour easy walk from Fung Yuen.

生氣勃勃大埔滘 Life in Tai Po Kau: Autumn
This area has long been popular with those especially interested in nature, including naturalists and biologists, plus those who feel a need for quiet and unspoiled surroundings. It was originally called the Tai Po Kau plantation, describing the 440 hectares of forest on the steep catchment area of the stream you see near the car park area. The height above sea level extends from 50 metres to 650 metres at the top of Grassy Hill ( Tso Shan )
Vegetation
The area of the reserve is 460 hectares, and covers the long-established forestry plantations. The plantations extend from the eastern slopes of Grassy Hill down to Tai Po Road. The area is heavily wooded, with more than 100 different species of trees.
Planting of the area began in 1926 when the Government first began afforestation in the New Territories. The dominant tree was Chinese Red Pine ( Pinus massoniana ) and because of that the area has come to be known locally as Tsung Tsai Yuen, meaning Pine Garden. More recently, small areas of Camphor Tree, China Fir, Taiwan Acacia and Paper-bark Tree have been planted.
There are also many interesting native species, such as the Fragrant Litsea, Giant Bean and Sweet Gum. As you walk along the quiet paths you find stretches of ground carpeted with large, brown leaves. These are from the tree called Castanopsis fissa, a good timber tree formerly much used by the Chinese in making agricultural implements such as the primitive wooden plough. Of all the special areas in Hong Kong, this one is probably the richest in variety of native species of trees.
Fauna
The nature lover who walks quietly in the forest may see many species of bird and animal. There are at least 12 common birds, including the Dove, Magpie, Chinese Bulbul and Crested Bulbul. In winter you may see owls and wagtails, while in summer there are cuckoos and black drongos. Barking deer may be heard now and then, and occasionally the civet cat, pangolin and porcupine may be seen. In late winter and early spring there are many beautiful butterflies.

-----------------------------
My name is Dennis. In 2009, I opened this channel to record or document this city. I know something is being changed in next decade(s), or I felt the change have began since 2003, no later in 2046. I want to, at least, save some kind of city life in video form instead of taken photo or written in words. I strongly believe that motion picture and sound recording are much better way to preserve and present in the future when young generation want to get know of Hong Kong.
In May of 2018, I wrote the following statement in below:
Hi everyone, thank you for supporting me in fulfilling my childhood dream of making videos.
My parents had always taken a tolerant attitude toward my “capricious”: whether my work is feasible and sustainable... and they never complained about it.
As my father just passed away in May, I am left with no choice but to give up my video making venture.
In Hong Kong where the cost of living is sky high, youtube video making is simply not sustainable by google adsense alone. The revenue produced is way too insufficient for affording a domestic helper, and I must look after my mom all by myself - this is why I must stay very close to her at all times.
Unless my revenue is closed to market rate, or my income can cover a domestic helper, otherwise I can hardly justify any video-related works.
Therefore, from now on everything video will be postponed in terms of year(s).
Thank you, and hope to see you all again in the future.
Because I am the only son of my mother in Hong Kong, and I have to take care of her at home. I almost give up this channel because of high consumption of time and living cost. But I found some extra time.
I live in Fanling, north part of New Territory, so it will include my showtime of traveling back and forth. Because of home care to my old mother, there will be no time other than 9:00 to 16:00 because my mother is staying at the senior daycare center, so before and after that, I will NOT able to do filming.
I understand most of you are looking for high quality of video, e.g. 4K or 8K. But hardware is so important at this post-production, that is, the higher quality video, the higher powerful computer to render video. Financial is my biggest issue, I can't afford to buy an expensive hardware right now. Even previous old 2K recorded video, it wasn't easy at all, one hour video = 1.5 hours of rendering time, plus uploading time. How about 1 hour 4K ? = 15 hour up......under this old computer. (please check youtube.com/user/hongkongmap/about )
I will continue to run this channel as long as the time is fit-on-me or I don't see any kind of video job could fit me.
I hope this is clear to everyone.

Taipo Kau Hike
May 1,2018 hikeThe area is heavily wooded. The dominant tree was Chinese Red Pine and because of that the area has come to be known locally as Pine Garden. On the ground, there are ferns and mosses. Therefore along the forest tracks, you will walk under plenty of shades that make the temperature cool down. There are also few small but cool running streams placed in the middle of the tracks. The trails are well-sign posted and mostly formed dirt with some sections hard-paved. From the car park follow the concrete road to the entrance of the Nature Reserve, where you can decide which trail you want to walk. The red and blue walks are the shortest routes. Soon after the dam, the yellow and brown walks climb up to around 300 metres.
This area is an ideal place for summer walks!

Hong Kong Taipo Kau Forest Walk
That morning I decided to walk down (actually up n down) to this Taipo Kau Forest to have my morning walk in the forest. This is situated some 4 km from my village Wong Yi Au, from where one needs to walk along on Taipo- Kowloon Highway to reach this forest. I was lil afraid, may be I confront snakes, monkeys or other wild animals. But it looked safe in that contest, The experience is amazing. Walking on a concrete roads in between thick forest. I may not have dared to enter. But the first support was a check post at the entrance with security guard. When I went further, I saw few people walking. That was my further support. Very few vehicals too was there
