North Cathedral Presbyterian House Project
Built in 1878 the Presbyterian House of St Mary and St Anne Cathedral Cork city, undergoes extensive renovation to restore the internal walls back to its former splendour. We were very proud to be awarded the contract by Jim Davis & Co ltd building and civil engineering contractors to be involved in this restoration. Our reputation as lime plastering specialists has been built on the quality of our work and the skill and expertise of our craftsmen.
Our first job was to remove all the old plaster back to the original stone on the external walls on three floors. We then applied three coats of lime render to all the external walls and once they had set and cured, we went about installing Redstone Opticlima board and finishing all the walls with a lime skim. Opticlima board system is breathable throughout and is the perfect internal insulation solution for older buildings made from calcium silicate and reinforced with cellulose. The board has good insulating properties combined with high capillary action and breathability, ensuring humidity regulation, dampness and mould control. Colman Howard lime Plastering have successfully completed this project to create a bespoke ambience.
This conservation project was undertaken with diligence and care in mind within keeping of the principles of conservation. For more information on lime rendering in Ireland check our website @

info about tower:
The name Shandon is a corruption of the Irish words Sean Dún, which literally mean the Old Fort.
The church of St Anne, Shandon was build in the year 1722, although there has been a church on this site since at least the 12th Century.
The bells were a gift to the Church from Mr Daniel Thresher, and were originally rung in the traditional Full Circle style. It was some time after this Fr. Mahony wrote his poem which made these bells famous.
The bells were recast in 1865 and then in 1906 they were re-hung in a fixed position to reduce vibrations. Since then they have been played as chimes - often by the public!
For a small fee visitors to the tower may :
Climb the tower and view the city of Cork (including St Finbarre's Cathedral)
See the bells in their original frame.
Chime the bells (several tunes are provided)

Limerick City - County Limerick - Ireland

Cork (city)
Cork (Irish: Corcaigh, pronounced [ˈkoɾkɪɟ], from corcach, meaning marsh) is a city in Ireland. It is located in the South-West Region and in the province of Munster. With a population of 119,230, it is the second largest city in the state and the third most populous on the island of Ireland.
The city is built on the River Lee which divides into two channels at the western end of the city. The city centre is located on the island created by the channels. At the eastern end of the city centre where the channels re-converge, quays and docks along the river banks lead to Lough Mahon and Cork Harbour, which is one of the world's largest natural harbours.
