Barcadia Cork - Video Game Paradise
Barcadia Cork - Video Game Paradise
A new venue in Cork has opened combining old school video games, food and drinks including some insane video game inspired cocktails. This is really a video game paradise.
Barcadia, located in the Mardyke complex in Cork have an incredible selection of classic video games. You can't miss the place with a gigantic Street Fighter mural at the entrance, created by Marvel artist Will Sliney.
Asteroids, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Defender are all in near mint condition in their original arcade cabinets. Not to mention slightly more modern games like Mario Kart, Time Crisis 2 and plenty more.
I was genuinely impressed when I attended the launch night spending way too much time on Defender and Pac-Man. Barcadia should definitely be on your list of things to do in Cork and it should definitely be in your date night ideas too.

The Mardyke Walk, Cork, Ireland.
This walk, affectionately known as the Dyke was laid out through the western portion of the Great Marsh in 1719. It was a tranquil, pleasant promenade lined on either side by magnificent, leafy elm trees and became a lover's, music and sporting paradise and a place of recreation for the masses who resided in the many tenements which stood at the eastern end of the Dyke called 'The Marsh'. During the 1950s, the gates that protected the Dyke at the city end were removed, thus the Dyke was de-pedestrianised. This gate had three gates in one which were popularly known as Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. For generations, Corkonians poured through these gates. On any given night under the pale yellow glow of the arch gas lamps, sweethearts held hands as they strolled dreamily along while others sat embracing on the wooden seats or stood in the shadows of the elms out of view from the rest of the lovers. Although the Dyke's charm maybe gone, lovers still stroll along this elegant walk carrying on a great tradition.

Cork (city)
Cork (Irish: Corcaigh, pronounced [ˈkoɾkɪɟ], from corcach, meaning marsh) is a city in Ireland. It is located in the South-West Region and in the province of Munster. With a population of 119,230, it is the second largest city in the state and the third most populous on the island of Ireland.
The city is built on the River Lee which divides into two channels at the western end of the city. The city centre is located on the island created by the channels. At the eastern end of the city centre where the channels re-converge, quays and docks along the river banks lead to Lough Mahon and Cork Harbour, which is one of the world's largest natural harbours.
