The Dollhouse, The Maze Canyonlands National Park
A hike from the Spanish Bottom, Colorado River up to The Dollhouse in The Maze district of Canyonlands National Park.
Backpacking Canyonlands National Park: 8 Days In The Maze
A solo backpacking loop from the Hans Flat Ranger Station. I hiked out to the Maze Overlook, hiked around the Maze, made my way over to Water Canyon, the Confluence Overlook, The Doll House, Ernie's Country and The Fins - where it rained and flooded for 24 hours. I completed the loop by hiking down the South Fork of Horse Canyon and back up to the overlook. You can see the route here: . May 2014

Ep. 130: Canyonlands - The Maze | Utah off-road 4x4 travel camping hiking
Unlike most National Parks, the Maze District of Canyonlands in Utah has no paved roads. You won't see any tour buses filled with visitors here. In fact, it has few roads at all -- it's mostly traversed by 4x4 trails. Cut off from the rest of the world by the Colorado and Green Rivers, it's one of the most remote places in the Lower 48.
For most visitors, Canyonlands National Park means the Island in the Sky district, from which the remote Maze district is separated by the canyons of the Green River. It takes hours to drive between the two, including the final 46 miles on dirt road just to reach the Hans Flat Ranger Station. Even then, you're still not yet in the Park as you first have to traverse the Orange Cliffs Unit of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to enter the Park itself.
The Maze is the most remote and least visited unit of Canyonlands, and requires a greater degree of self-sufficiency. Rarely do visitors spend less than three days in the Maze, and the area can easily absorb a week-long trip. We'd only see one ranger jeep, and one group of four mountain bikers in our four full days in The Maze. It's a place to bring lots of water, extra gas, and even spare parts for your vehicle.
We first visited The Maze in 2014 on a five-day 4x4 camping expedition with friends Marc and Karen, which we'll share with you in this episode of Grand Adventure.

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on YouTube, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

Canyonlands National Park - Mesa Arch
A quick hike (honestly too short to be called a hike) to Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park in Moab, Utah, followed by some crappy video of a 4x4 trail I found on my way out of Moab.

Off Road: Maze District, Canyonlands National Park
The Maze in Canyonlands National Park is listed as one of the most remote and dangerous places in the continental United States, with less than 2000 visitors a year, most of whom visit via raft on the Colorado River. And we found out why!
Canyonlands National Park May 2009
Canyonlands National Park, near Moab, Utah. Canyonlands preserves an immense wilderness of rock at the heart of the Colorado Plateau. Hundreds of colorful canyons, mesas, buttes, fins, arches and spires at two great canyons carved by the Green and Colorado rivers. Island in the Sky is to the north, the Maze to the west; and to the east, the Needles. The areas share a common primitive spirit and wild desert atmosphere. The park was established in 1964. Throughout its 527 square miles roam desert bighorn sheep, coyotes and other animals native to this land.
Maze in Canyonlands National Park (USA)
It is the least accessible section of #Canyonlands, and one of the most inaccessible places in the United States. In fact, this was the last region to be mapped in the contiguous US in 1876 because of its isolation.
Virtually trailless, this 1000-sq-km jumble of high-walled #canyons preserves a rare wilderness. Many of the colorful canyons look alike and it’s easy to get turned around – hence the district’s name.
The #Maze absorbed me for 4 days. I just wandered in and through winding canyons. During this time, I met no one. It was impossible to capture the atmosphere of being down there for 100 hours and then rising up to the surface. As this terrain is a red rock paradise.

Canyonlands National Park Scenic Drive
Enjoy this drive from Moab, Utah into Canyonlands National Park! This route includes stops at the Green River Overlook and Upheaval Dome, before coming to an end at Grand View Point. Look for another video to take you out of the park and to Arches.

I made this trip in January 2018. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Canyonlands National Park: The Most Terrifying Drive of my Life! (Ep. 19)
Dec. 18, 2016: I made it! I'm here at Canyonlands National Park just outside Moab, Utah and the best part is that there's no hazardous weather to shut down the park!
I started the morning with sunrise photography at Dead Horse Point State Park before heading to Canyonlands. From there I visited Mesa Arch, Green River Overlook, Upheaval Dome, Grand View Point Overlook, & Buck Canyon Overlook. Those were all trumped by my drive down the Shafer Trail to Musselman Arch!
It's an unpaved road taking you down into the canyon below! 4x4 and nerves of steel are the only requirements - it's not for the faint of heart!
Tomorrow, we go to Arches National Park!

Canyonlands National Park - Utah
July 14th - 2014
Not far from Moab and just down the road from Dead Horse Point State Park lies Canyonlands National Park which encompasses 527 square miles. It preserves a wilderness of rock at the heart of the Colorado Plateau. Water and gravity, this land's primary architects, cut flat layers of sedimentary rock into hundreds of canyons, mesas, buttes, arches, and spires. At center stage are two canyons carved by the Green and Colorado Rivers.

Canyonlands National Park , Utah
