ULTRA HD 4K HONG KONG AVENUE OF STARS | 星光大道 | 2019 NEW WORLD CENTRE | TSIM SHA TSUI 尖沙咀
#avenueofstars #星光大道 #newworldcentre #tsimshatsui
Welcome to our Hong Kong Walking Tour in the Avenue of Stars
星光大道, in Tsim Sha Tsui. We also shot the 2019 Brand New World Centre. You will also see the Peninsula on the way, the Space Museum, Cultural Centre and much more. Our video is shot in Ultra HD 4K, crystal clear quality, as if you are actually here.
'The Avenue of Stars (Chinese: 星光大道), modelled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is located along the Victoria Harbour waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. It honours celebrities of the Hong Kong film industry.[1] In late January 2019, the avenue has been reopen to the public after 3 years of renovation.
The Avenue of Stars is the eastern node of several tourist attractions along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. In addition to the promenade and New World Centre, a number of attractions exist including the Museum of Art, Space Museum, Cultural Centre and the Clock Tower.
Entering from Salisbury Garden, a 4.5-metre-tall replica of the statuette given to winners at the Hong Kong Film Awards greets visitors. Along the 440-metre promenade, the story of Hong Kong's one hundred years of cinematic history is told through inscriptions printed on nine red pillars. Set into the promenade are plaques honouring the celebrities. Some plaques contain hand prints and autographs of the stars set in cement, but most of the plaques only contain celebrities' names as they are now deceased. A 2.5-metre bronze statue of Bruce Lee was erected along the Avenue of Stars in 2005.
The promenade commands a stunning panoramic view across Victoria Harbour. At night it is a popular viewing place for the Symphony of Lights display.
'New World Centre remodeling project
The New World Centre (Chinese: 新世界中心) was retail-hotel-residential-office complex on Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It housed two hotels, two office towers, a shopping complex and serviced apartments. It was reported to be one of the largest commercial complexes in the world at the time.[1] It used to house a Tokyu Department Store. It was located near the Sogo department store and the Hong Kong Space Museum, opposite the MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station. It was closed on March 31, 2010 for demolition and a new 63-storey hotel by New World Group is being built on the site with expected opening in 2019.[2]'
'Tsim Sha Tsui (Chinese: 尖沙咀), often abbreviated as TST, is an urban area in southern Kowloon, Hong Kong. The area is administratively part of the Yau Tsim Mong District. Tsim Sha Tsui East is a piece of land reclaimed from the Hung Hom Bay now east of Tsim Sha Tsui.
Geographically, Tsim Sha Tsui is a cape on the tip of the Kowloon Peninsula pointing towards Victoria Harbour, opposite Central. Several villages had been established in this location before Kowloon was ceded to the British Empire in 1860. Tsim Sha Tsui in Chinese means sharp sandspit. It was also known as Heung Po Tau (香埗頭), i.e. a port for exporting incense tree.
Tsim Sha Tsui is a major tourist hub in Hong Kong, with many high-end shops and restaurants that cater to tourists. Many of Hong Kong's museums are located in the area.
Tourist attractions
The Former Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower in Tsim Sha Tsui is a famous landmark of Hong Kong.
Tsim Sha Tsui was once the terminus of the Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR). After the British Section of the railway was opened for traffic on 1 October 1910, the construction of the railway station in Tsim Sha Tsui started in 1913. Construction on the railway station and its clock tower were completed in 1915. The main building of the Tsim Sha Tsui station was demolished in 1978. The station was relocated to Hung Hom to make way for the Hong Kong Space Museum and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. But the Clock Tower of the station was not demolished and was kept in place. It is all that remains standing of the station. The clock tower is forty-four metres high, surmounted by a seven-metre-high (23 ft) lightning rod. It is now surrounded by the public piazza of the Cultural Centre and has become a landmark of Hong Kong. Six pillars of the railway were relocated to the Urban Council Centenary Garden in TST East. The Avenue of Stars starts at the New World Centre shopping centre near the Cultural Centre.
The Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront is another popular destination for locals and tourists alike. It is especially popular for photographers, as it offers an unobstructed view of the Central area of Hong Kong across Victoria Harbour. The Star Ferry terminal is another popular attraction for tourists, and the Avenue of Stars is also popular with photographers.'

Hong Kong Protest: 60 Newly Elected District Council Members Support PolyU - 25 November 2019
Around 60 newly elected Pro-Democracy District Councillors gathered at Urban Council Centenary Garden in TST East to show solidarity with the protesters who still remain inside Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) after more than a week of siege. They also urged the government to listen to their five demands.
Due to short notice, Gary Fan, a Legislative Councillor said that they did not apply for a letter of no objection from police but police promised to send a representative to receive a petition from them to submit names of five representatives who will be subsequently allowed to enter PolyU campus to get in contact with the remaining protesters.
The group expressed concern as the remaining protesters have depleted almost all their resources.

Zhanjiang Friendship Garden and Centenary Lakes Walk Cairns
Zhanjiang Friendship Garden
Cairns Council has created a Zhanjiang Friendship Garden at Freshwater Lakes in the Cairns Botanic Garden precinct, to celebrate the Sister Cities relationship between Cairns and the Chinese city of Zhanjiang.
The Chinese-style garden, which celebrates the cultural heritage of the Cairns region, was officially opened on 21 November 2015.
Situated on the banks of Freshwater Lake, within the Centenary Lakes precinct at Edge Hill, the garden incorporates traditional features in a contemporary style. It pays homage to the unique friendship that is maintained between the cities of Zhanjiang and Cairns.
The entry pillars announce “arrival” and are adorned with graphic motifs of traditional cloud patters of Zhanjiang. Boulders of Chillagoe marble acknowledge the importance of rocks and mountains in Chinese garden culture.
A Moon Gate is inscribed with the words “Friendship Garden” and carved granite dogs at the entrance to the Pavilion are representative of the ancient dog sculptures unique to Zhanjiang.
Designers consulted the Sister Cities Advisory Committee, the Consul-General to Mayor Wang Zhongbing, the Zhanjiang Urban Management Bureau, the Cairns and District Chinese Association and the Friends of the Botanic Gardens in preparing the brief.
The style of the garden has been influenced by the designers' involvement with the Sino Australian Friendship Garden at Zhanjiang China, Cairns' Sister City – a 37ha contemporary style garden with modern Chinese elements that were in turn influenced by an existing 500 year old light house, a modern harbour bridge and an interest to fuse local Cairns cultural icons into the end result – a symbolic gesture that supported the 'friendship' between the two cities.
The Centenary Lakes are connected to the Flecker Botanic Gardens by a low lying boardwalk through a pristine swamp forest and melaleuca wetlands.
The Freshwater Lake here has birds, turtles and many waterlilies and the gardens here have a picnic pavilion and facilities making it the perfect spot for a family picnic.
There is also a Saltwater Lake on the other eastern side of the park where you can see mangrove habitats including mud skippers, crabs, saltwater fish and mangrove birds.
You can walk from this side of the Centenary Lakes along the timber boardwalk to the Flecker Botanical Gardens.
Urban Council Centenary Garden,Squatting American Standard With Push Button
24th January was kind of an American Standard day.I kept running into American Standard toilets. Here, you have one with a push button flush.I believe there is a hidden cistern behind it due to the ups and downs in the flushing sound.
Anyway, this was taken at the Urban Centenary Garden at Chatam Road South in Tsim Sha Tsui,Kowloon. This is one of the few public toilets in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Kam Fung Cafe,Squatting New Batch Victory
Another squatting Victory from the new batch (brand logo facing upwards). This time,we have the cistern's handle without the chain.
It just looks like the usual sitting toilet's cistern handle.See the video and you know what I mean.
For a new batch,it sounds relatively good, and comes with an afterflush.
This toilet is located at Kam Fung Cafe,Spring Garden Lane,Wan Chai,Hong Kong.

Rethinking Pei: A Centenary Symposium, Panel 2: Spatial and Formal Practices I
Panel 2 Participants:
K. Michael Hays, moderator
Daniel M. Abramson: “Vexing Government Center”
Stuart Leslie: “I. M. Pei's Modern Monastery: the NCAR Mesa Laboratory”
Thomas Leslie: “Brutal Grace: I. M. Pei’s Early Art Centers”
Delin Lai: “Defining the Present Perfect Tense of I. M. Pei’s Space”
A two-part symposium examining the work and life of I. M. Pei from multiple vantage points. Organized by the Harvard GSD with M+, Hong Kong, and the Faculty of Architecture, The University of Hong Kong.
Ieoh Ming Pei is one of the most celebrated yet under-theorized architects of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Although Pei’s six-decade career is mostly identified with his unwavering interest in cultural synthesis and the power of pure geometrical form, his modes of practice demand further investigation of their intertwinement with the multiple historical and discursive moments of modern architecture. The two-day symposium will include panel discussions and scholarly presentations that showcase new research on Pei’s manifold contributions to the built environment. Notable alumni from Pei’s office will discuss the emergence of a new kind of architectural practice in the postwar era. Among the topics to be addressed in the paper sessions are technological innovations with concrete, the glass curtain wall, and structural designs; Pei’s longstanding affinities for China’s landscape and vernacular traditions; his legacy on major urban spaces in Boston and other cities around the world; and the increasingly global and transnational conditions of architectural production that Pei successfully navigated. Organized with M+, the new museum for visual culture being built in Hong Kong, this symposium is part of a yearlong celebration of the 100th birthday of Ieoh Ming (I. M.) Pei MArch ’46. Both I. M. and his wife, Eileen Pei GSD ’44, studied at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, as did their sons Chien Chung (Didi) Pei, AB ’68, MArch ’72, and Li Chung (Sandi) Pei, AB ’72, MArch ’76. Pei was also an assistant professor of architecture at the GSD. In March the GSD held a panel discussion, led by Harry Cobb AB ’47, MArch ’49, which focused on the formative years of I. M. Pei’s career as well as some of his special friendships, influences, and projects.
A second symposium, co-organized by M+ and the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong, will be held in Hong Kong on December 14-15.
These two symposia are made possible with the generous support of the C Foundation.
Hong Keung Street Public Toilet,Squatting Metallic Brandless Type 2
I videoed this because it was under the Food and Hygeine Department. This toilet performed much better than the one at Sai Kung Wong Shek Pier. But despite that,it is still not one of my favorites.
I personally rate this only 1 star.

Upon completion in 2014, the Ping An Tower will be the tallest tower in China, and the centerpiece of the growing Shenzhen skyline located just a few minutes north of Hong Kong. Implementing LEED requirements for design, construction and life cycle properties will set a new standard for China building design. In 115 stories the tower will accommodate high end Class A office space, trading floors, skylobbies and sky restaurants as well as an observation deck.
Shau Kei Wan Wong Lam Kee Fishball,The Perculiar American Standard
During this trip to Hong Kong,I seem to keep coming across American Standards. This video is worth the shoot because of the unique flushing behavior.
Personally,I have never seen an American Standard behave like this one does.
This toilet is located at Wong Lam Kee Fishball,Shau Kei Wan Main Street East,Hong Kong Island.
Merry King Department Store Level 5 Elevated Squatting American Standard
I always believe in my own saying Leave no toilet unexplored..You'll never know what you miss,no matter how confident you are.
I stumbled upon this toilet by accident.Law of Attraction?Maybe. It has been my intention to video an elevated squatting American Standard. For 3 days,I have been searching for it.
My aunt, mum, cousin and her friend went shopping for clothes and other stuff in Bangkok Chinatown.I decided to walk around myself and find some nice toilets to video.
As I walked along the alleys of shops,I finally came to the end where I reached the main road.Across this road was this huge department store, which is 6 storeys high. From the exterior,it looked really old.
I knew that there was potential there.I went in to explore. On the 2nd Level, there was a toilet, but it was for staff only.I decided to move on...
Level 3 was the gents for public.I went in.It was all original parts.Armitage Shanks squatting Thailand style, but as usual,no flushing system.
I decided to explore further...
Level 4:Ladies Public Toilet
Level 5:Gents and Ladies Public Toilet.Time to explore...
And it was how I found this toilet and the old Cotto.Flushing sound is rather disappointing,as compared to what you see from Hong Kong. But nonetheless,it was a good find.Enjoy.
