Park Avenue, Arches National Park, Utah
The Park Avenue Viewpoint is one of the first major stops in Arches National Park. From the viewpoint you can continue hiking the Park Avenue Trail that descends quickly and steeply into a beautiful canyon and takes you through the Avenue area to the Courthouse Towers. This hike gives you a spectacular feel of Arches' sandstone formations. You start at the parking area and walk 1 mile through what is appropriately named to represent a sandstone feel of the big city. At the end of the hike (Courthouse Towers parking) you will have a great view of the Three Gossips, North Avenue, Tower of Babel and more! However, it is not necessary to take the hike to see these views.

Towers of Arches
One of my favorite places to visit and enjoy Nature's fantastic beauty is Moab, Utah. This is central to Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, both with unique red rock features and vast canyons and endless opportunities for photography. This sunrise video is in Arches National Park, although we are enjoying the NonArch parts of Arches. We scouted out this area for sunrise the day before. We were fortunate to have about a minute of nice light to show the colors of the towers before the sun went behind the clouds. We then went on the other side of the tower and found a tree that I loved and had photographed a few years ago, still standing strong. We also found some lovely yellow wildflowers and peaceful moments in nature. I hope you enjoyed this desert morning!
More videos from Moab coming soon.

The Balanced Rock | The Garden of the Gods, Colorado
The Balanced Rock | The Garden of the Gods, Colorado
Balanced Rock, the iconic 700-ton red sandstone ballerina perched on its tiptoes in the heart of the Garden of the Gods and Garden of the Gods is a public park located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, US. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1971. It is, after all, inevitable that the 290-million-year-old rock will fall. Too many factors are working against it. Maybe it will it be dislodged by erosion. Or wind. Perhaps it will succumb to Colorado’s notorious freeze-thaw cycles. Or even an earthquake. In 1936, an anonymous cousin of the Balanced Rock stood on a cliff about a half-mile to the south along the road to Manitou.
The Garden of the Gods red rock formations were created during a geological upheaval along a natural fault line millions of years ago. Archaeological evidence shows that prehistoric people visited Garden of the Gods about 1330 BC. At about 250 BC Native American people camped in the park.
The outstanding geologic features of the park are the ancient sedimentary beds of deep-red, pink and white sand-stones, conglomerates and limestone that were deposited horizontally, but have now been tilted vertically and faulted by the immense mountain building forces caused by the uplift of the Rocky Mountains and the Pikes Peak massif. The following Pleistocene Ice Age resulted in erosion and glaciation of the rock, creating the present rock formations. Evidence of past ages can be read in the rocks: ancient seas, eroded remains of ancestral mountain ranges, alluvial fans, sandy beaches and great sand dune fields.
The resulting rocks had different shapes: toppled, overturned, stood-up, pushed around and slanted. Balanced Rock, a fountain formation, is a combination of coarse sand, gravel, silica and hematite. It is hematite that gives the large balancing rock, its red hue. It toppled off of a ledge, first resting on sand that was gradually worn away at the base. Gateway Rock and Three Graces are stood-up rocks that had been pushed up vertically. The Tower of Babel is Lyons Formation, a stone made of fine sand from an ancient beach.
