Tryon Creek State Park
The Tryon Creek State Natural Area is a state park located in Portland, OR. It is also the only Oregon state park within a major city. The 645-acre park lies between Boones Ferry Road and Terwilliger Boulevard in southwest Portland in Multnomah County and is to the north of Lake Oswego in Clackamas County. Tryon Creek bisects the park, hence the name.
Footage was shot on the GH2 with the 20mm pancake lens. Due to recent advances on the hacking front for the GH2, in use during this shoot was a 60mbps patch. The resulting video was then encoded at 45mps in premiere.

Portland (HD)
Portland is a city located in the Northwestern United States, near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers in the state of Oregon. As of July 2009, it has an estimated population of 582,130, making it the 30th most populous in the United States. Portland is Oregon's most populous city, and the third most populous city in the Pacific Northwest, after Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Approximately 2.2 million people live in the Portland metropolitan area (MSA), the 23rd most populous in the United States as of July 2006.
Portland was incorporated in 1851 and is the county seat of Multnomah County. The city extends slightly into Washington County to the west and Clackamas County to the south. It is governed by a commission-based government headed by a mayor and four other commissioners.
The City of Portland has been referred to as the most environmentally friendly or green city in the United States and the second most in the world. The city and region are noted for strong land-use planning and investment in light rail, supported by Metro, a distinctive regional government. Portland is known for its large number of microbreweries and microdistilleries, as well as its coffee enthusiasm. It is also the home of the Trail Blazers NBA team.
Portland lies in the Marine west coast climate region, marked by warm, dry summers and rainy but temperate winters. This climate is ideal for growing roses, and for more than a century, Portland has been known as The City of Roses with many rose gardens—most prominently the International Rose Test Garden.
Portland has many options for shopping. Some of the well known shopping areas are Downtown Portland, Nob Hill (NW 21st & 23rd Avenues), Pearl District, and the Lloyd District. Major department stores in downtown include Nordstrom, Macy's, and Mario's. The major malls in the metropolitan area are Bridgeport Village, Washington Square, Clackamas Town Center, Lloyd Center, Vancouver Mall, and Pioneer Place. Another destination is the Portland Saturday Market, a town bazaar-like environment where many kinds of goods are sold from Artisan Crafts to Tibetan Imports, reflecting the many cultures of Portland. The Saturday Market is open every weekend from March through Christmas. The Made in Oregon company is based in Portland; it specializes in Oregon-produced products and gifts. Many residents of Clark County, Washington will cross the state border to shop in Oregon's tax-free stores.
Portland is proud of its parks and its legacy of preserving open spaces. Parks and greenspace planning date back to John Charles Olmsted's 1903 Report to the Portland Park Board. In 1995, voters in the Portland metropolitan region passed a regional bond measure to acquire valuable natural areas for fish, wildlife, and people. Ten years later, more than 8,100 acres (33 km2) of ecologically valuable natural areas had been purchased and permanently protected from development.
Portland is one of only three cities in the contiguous U.S. with extinct volcanoes within its boundaries (besides Jackson, Mississippi and Bend, Oregon). Mount Tabor Park is known for its scenic views and historic reservoirs.
Forest Park is the largest wilderness park within city limits in the United States, covering more than 5,000 acres (20 km²). Portland is also home to Mill Ends Park, the world's smallest park (a two-foot-diameter circle, the park's area is only about 0.3 square m). Washington Park is just west of downtown, and is home to the Oregon Zoo, the Portland Japanese Garden, and the International Rose Test Garden. Nearby is Council Crest Park, the highest point in Portland.
Tom McCall Waterfront Park runs along the west bank of the Willamette for the length of downtown. The 37-acre (15 ha) park was built in 1974 after Harbor Drive was removed and now hosts large events throughout the year. Portland's downtown features two groups of contiguous city blocks dedicated for park space: the North and South Park Blocks.
Tryon Creek State Natural Area is one of three Oregon State Parks in Portland and the most popular; its creek has a run of steelhead. The other two State Parks are Willamette Stone State Heritage Site located in the West Hills and the Government Island State Recreation Area located in the Columbia River near Portland International Airport.

Faith Fitzpatrick (U.S. Geological Survey), Kristen Acock (Portland Bureau of Environmental Services), Jennifer Devlin (Portland Bureau of Environmental Services), Tim Whitesel (US Fish and Wildlife Service, Columbia River Fisheries Program Office), and Matt Brennan (Herrera Environmental) talk about a new project at the confluence of Tryon Creek with the much larger Willamette River which added habitat for endangered salmon species. The banks of Tryon Creek were laid back to add more floodplain storage and the bed of the channel adjusted to allow fish passage through culverts. The project was successful because of good communication, connections, and monitoring between City of Portland and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff.

Cooper Mountain Nature Park is a 231 acre nature park in Beaverton, Oregon. A quick getaway to nature from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Overlooking the Tualatin River Valley, Cooper Mountain Nature Park is located on the edge of Beaverton. The 230-acre park offers visitors 3½ miles of trails that traverse the park and pass through each of its distinct habitats - from conifer forest to prairie to oak woodlands. Visitors will be rewarded with grand views of the Chehalem Mountains, close-up looks at Oregon white oaks and a small prairie that has sat relatively undisturbed for hundreds of years.

The Cedar Creek National Historic Park
The Battle of Cedar Creek (Battle of Belle Grove) was fought October 19, 1864, was the culminating battle of the Valley Campaigns of 1864 during the American Civil War. Confederate Lt. Gen. Jubal Early launched a surprise attack against the encamped army of Union Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan, across Cedar Creek, northeast of Strasburg, Virginia. During the morning fighting, seven Union infantry divisions were forced to fall back and lost numerous prisoners and cannons. Early failed to continue his attack north of Middletown, and Sheridan, dramatically riding to the battlefield from Winchester, was able to rally his troops to hold a new defensive line. A Union counterattack that afternoon routed Early's army.

Portland is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is a major port in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. As of 2017, Portland had an estimated population of 647,805, making it the 26th-largest city in the United States, and the second-most populous in the Pacific Northwest (after Seattle). Approximately 2.4 million people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), making it the 25th most populous MSA in the United States. Its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) ranks 18th-largest with a population of around 3.2 million. Approximately 60% of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.Named after Portland, Maine, the Oregon settlement began to be populated in the 1830s near the end of the Oregon Trail. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy. At the turn of the 20th century, the city had a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, a hub for organized crime and racketeering. After the city's economy experienced an industrial boom during World War II, its hard-edged reputation began to dissipate. One hundred years ago women in Oregon faced many challenges and debated gendered questions that have powerful echoes in our own day. Oregon women shaped powerful reform movements and forged new civic roles including the achievement of the vote, office holding, and jury service for women, public health and civic betterment movements, and labor reforms battling corporate interests, regulating workplaces, and making education more accessible to women. Some Oregon women identified reproductive rights and safety from gender-based violence as key civil liberties at a time when the surveillance state was expanding its reach. Diverse women were active in clubs and associations as an expression of their civic roles and lobbied for legislation and created institutions to benefit women and their communities. Oregon women’s activism during this period is a vital part of our state’s history and the history of the Progressive Era in the nation. It also reflects issues and challenges Oregonians and Americans address today.

About Mayor Wheeler
Ted Wheeler previously served as the Chair of Multnomah County and Oregon State Treasurer. He began his term as Portland Mayor on January 1, 2017.
A sixth-generation Oregonian, Ted was born in Portland, and graduated from Lincoln High School. Ted earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Stanford University, an MBA from Columbia University and a Masters in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
About the Interviewer
Rukaiyah Adams is the Chief Investment Officer at Meyer Memorial Trust. She is responsible for leading all investment activities to ensure the long-term financial strength of the organization. Before joining Meyer, she ran the $6.5 Billion capital markets fund at The Standard. Ms. Adams is also the Chair of the Oregon Investment Council, the board that manages approximately $90 Billion for the State of Oregon and PERS.
Ms. Adams holds a BA with academic distinction from Carleton College and a JD from Stanford Law where she was on the Law and Policy Review and the Co-President of the Law Student Association. Ms. Adams also has an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Portland is Ms. Adams' hometown. She learned to read at King school. She learned to communicate at Harriet Tubman Middle School. She learned to embrace her shine playing in the Walnut Park neighborhood in Northeast Portland.

The March for Science Portland (also known as the March for Science PDX and Portland March for Science) was a protest held in Portland, Oregon. This local protest was part of the March for Science, a series of rallies and marches in Washington, D.C. and over 600 cities across the world on April 22, 2017 (Earth Day). Portland Science Advocates organized the march in support of science and to protest President Donald Trump's plan to cut funding for the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institutes of Health. Funding for the event, which cost approximately $30,000, was crowdsourced.
Amid rainy weather, thousands of people attended the demonstration, gathering at a rally at Tom McCall Waterfront Park before marching 44 blocks of downtown Portland. Speakers included Earl Blumenauer, Suzanne Bonamici, and Elizabeth Steiner Hayward. Organizations that promoted the protest included the Audubon Society of Portland, Oregon Environmental Council, Oregon Health & Science University, and Xerces Society. Reporters noted organizers' attempts to create a political yet nonpartisan atmosphere, and participants' public criticism of Trump. The event featured activities for children and was described as having a family-friendly atmosphere.
PAC/WCP Program - “Native Plants in the Landscape: For Unparalleled Beauty and Ease of Care”
On January 30th, Mary Holcombe of Southern Heritage Nursery (a native plant nursery in Blue Ridge, SC; presented, “Native Plants in the Landscape: For Unparalleled Beauty and Ease of Care” at the Anne Elizabeth Suratt Nature Center at Walnut Creek Preserve.
The southeast boasts a staggering array of beautiful flowering plants, most of which are surprisingly easy to cultivate. Participants learned about a wide variety of ornamental native perennials, shrubs, and trees, and how to incorporate them into your own landscape.

PAC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit conservation organization (land trust) founded in 1989 to protect and conserve natural resources in the Foothills of North Carolina and the Upstate of South Carolina, with emphasis on the lands and waterways with scenic, ecologic or agricultural significance in the North Pacolet and Green River watersheds (PAC’s mission). Walnut Creek Preserve is an equestrian and nature preserve community outside of Lake Lure, North Carolina, offering for sale large tract acreage (10-35 acres) horse farms. WCP is an exceptionally large tract of over 2,100 acres of land whose development has been designed with horseback riding, hiking and nature study in mind. The Preserve's 2,100 acres of forest and pasture land shelter a tremendous variety of indigenous plant life, including several rare and one threatened species, as well as a wealth of wild animal life. To assure their survival, only 25 wooded and equestrian home sites averaging 20 acres each will be offered for sale on the 2,100 acres, and the remaining, over 1,500 acres of wilderness are protected in perpetuity by deeded conservation easement held by the Pacolet Area Conservancy.
