ULTRA HD 4K HONG KONG WALKING TOUR | TSEUNG KWAN O WET MARKET | TSEUNG KWAN O | 富康街市
#將軍澳 #富康街市 #街市 #tseungkwano #hongkong
Welcome to our Hong Kong Walking Tour in Tseung Kwan O Wet Market 富康街市, in Tseung Kwan O. Our video is shot in Ultra HD 4K, crystal clear quality, as if you are actually here.
'Tseung Kwan O (also called Cheung Kwan O or Junk Bay) is a bay in Sai Kung District, New Territories, Hong Kong. In the northern tip of the bay lies the Tseung Kwan O Village.
The Tseung Kwan O New Town, one of the nine new towns in Hong Kong, was mainly built on reclaimed land in the northern half of the bay. The current population as of 2011 is about 368,000.[1]
In Cantonese, Tseung Kwan (將軍) means the general of an army, and O (澳) means bay. Therefore, Tseung Kwan O literally means general's Bay.
The exact origin of the name Tseung Kwan O is unknown, but it is said to be named in honour of a Ming Dynasty soldier who visited Tseung Kwan O at some point. Another theory is that the name was chosen in the 17th century, when naval battles were fought against pirates from Japan at Tseung Kwan O. Yet another theory is that the pronunciation of 將軍 can sound like Junk Wan to the ears of English speakers; wan is also a transliteration of the Chinese word for bay (灣).
The current town center of Tseung Kwan O stands on reclaimed land. The English name Junk Bay was said to be derived from the existence of junks in the bay, and the reclamation land based on the landfill[citation needed]. The first landfill was opened in 1978, decades after Junk Bay was named.[2] The Fat Tong Chau (Junk Island) is in the southeastern part of the bay.
The bay is near the eastern mouth of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour. A local gazette, Genuine record of Guangdong province (Chinese traditional: 粵大記), clearly contained the place name: 將軍澳 (Chinese characters of Tseung Kwan O). A genuine record of Guangdong province was published during the Ming Dynasty: Residents inhabited Tseung Kwan O area then.
Before the development of the new town, the area around the bay was occupied by fishing towns and villages. Settlements in the area began as early as in the 13th century. Major settlements, however, did not occur until the late 16th century when small fishing villages were founded in the area. Hang Hau quickly emerged into a market town and became the most populated and prosperous place in the whole of Clear Water Bay Peninsula; it continued for the next few centuries as such.[3] Other towns and villages include Rennie's Mill (Tiu Keng Leng), Hang Hau and Yau Yue Wan. Rennie's Mill was where Kuomintang loyalists were settled following the end , and Hang Hau had a ship-building industry.
The Hong Kong Government had been interested in developing a new town at Hang Hau because of its proximity to the urban area. The project was postponed for a long time owing to the extensive scale of reclamation in the bay, which is rather deep. It finally started under the name of Tseung Kwan O. The area of Tseung Kwan O is about 1,790 ha, with a projected population of 490,000 upon completion.[4]
Tseung Kwan O today comprises four main areas: Po Lam, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O, and Tiu Keng Leng.'

ULTRA HD 4K HONG KONG TSEUNG KWAN O WET MARKET | 將軍澳街市
#ultrahd #4k #hongkong #wetmarket #街市 #hongkongtourism
Ever seen a wet market live in action? Watch our Hong Kong Wet Market (in Tseung Kwan O 將軍澳街市), filmed in ultra hd 4k, crystal clear quality, as if you are here.
You will see a massive array of fresh produce, butchers chopping the meat, vendors selling fresh fruit and veg, fresh seafood, fresh everything! Wet Markets in Hong Kong, is where locals source their daily food from. Its mostly cash only and this particular wet market is in Tseung Kwan O, an indoor wet market which is more unusual but becoming increasingly popular.
Its more hygenic being indoor and more convenient during rainy season. Wet Markets have a huge amount of choice, as there are vendors selling the same thing back to back so you can negotiate on prices.
There is no fresher food than food found in the Wet Markets, in chinese called 'Gai See' 街市.
'Wet markets were traditionally places that sold dead and live animals out in the open. This includes poultry, fish, reptiles, and pigs. However, since SARS, large animals and poultry are not as commonly found in the markets in Hong Kong, though live fish, shellfish, and frogs are widely available. Some markets also sell exotic animals.[3] Fresh fruits and vegetables are also available. Wet markets also generally include butcher shops with fresh meat. The fresh meat and fish sections are separate from the fruit and vegetable stalls. Many markets also have stalls that sell dried goods, flowers, and processed tofu as well as cooked meat.[4]
In Hong Kong the wet markets are most frequented by older Hong Kongers, those with lower incomes, and domestic helpers who serve approximately 10% of Hong Kong's residents.[4][5] Recently they have become sites of interest to tourists as places to see the real Hong Kong.[4][6]
Many of the wet market buildings are owned by property investment firms and as a result the price of food can vary from market to market.[7] In general, the owner of the wet market building is responsible for maintaining the building infrastructure. Stalls are rented out to retailers, who purchase and sell their goods independently. This is in contrast to a supermarket which is operated by a single company.
For some customers, it is important to see the animal live before being sold. Specifically, they may want to check its health and quality. This is generally not an option in supermarkets, except in lobster or fish booths. Most wet markets have facilities for allowing a customer to choose a live animal, then either take it home as is or see it killed and cleaned. If sanitation standards are not maintained, wet markets can spread diseases. Because of the openness, newly introduced animals may come in direct contact with sales clerks, butchers and customers. Insects such as flies have relatively easy access to the food products. Many times the carcasses are thrown on the floor to be butchered more easily. Both the current avian flu outbreak and SARS can be traced to the living conditions of keeping of live animals for sale in wet markets and the potential of cross infection this presents. In 2008 the government of Hong Kong proposed that all poultry should be slaughtered at central abattoirs to combat the spread of avian flu.[13] However, public opposition to such a scheme led to its abandonment.'

Thousands swim across Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour
(29 Oct 2017) THOUSANDS SWIM ACROSS HONG KONG'S VICTORIA HARBOUR
Three thousand swimmers took part in the annual cross-harbor swim in Hong Kong Sunday (29 OCT. 2017).
The race returned to the heart of the city after 40 years, as better water quality allowed it to move back to its original route.
In calm seas and under partly cloudy skies, the swimmers negotiated the one-kilometre (0.6-mile) route linking Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon to Wan Chai Golden Bauhinia Square on Hong Kong island.
The cross harbor race was first held in 1906, when Hong Kong was still a British colony, and suspended in 1978, 19 years before it reverted to Chinese control, because of the pollution concerns.
The race started again as an annual event in 2011.
In recent years, Hong Kong has been engaged in a major effort to clean the harbor, putting particular emphasis on controlling the infusion of raw sewage into the sea.

ULTRA HD 4K HONG KONG SHOPPING MALL -- PARK CENTRAL | TSEUNG KWAN O | 將軍澳中心
#parkcentral #parkcentraltko #hongkong #shoppingmall
Welcome to our Hong Kong Walking Tour in Park Central in Tseung Kwan O 將軍澳中心. The mall is nearly full renovated.
'Park Central (Chinese: 將軍澳中心) is a private housing estate and shopping mall in Tseung Kwan O, New Territories, Hong Kong, located near MTR Tseung Kwan O Station. It consists of 12 residential blocks in two phases with a total of 4,152 units, and a 350,000-square-foot (33,000 m2) shopping mall, the largest one in Tseung Kwan O. It was jointly developed in 2002, 2003 and 2005 by the consortium of property developers, including Sun Hung Kai Properties, Henderson Land Development, Chinachem Group, MTR Corporation and Nan Fung Group.[1][2]'
'Tseung Kwan O New Town (Chinese: 將軍澳新市鎮) is one of the nine new towns in Hong Kong, built mainly on reclaimed land in the northern half of Junk Bay (also known as Tseung Kwan O), after which it is named.
Development of the new town was approved in 1982, with the initial population intake occurring in 1988. As of 2016, the town is home to around 372,000 residents. The total development area of Tseung Kwan O, including its industrial estate, is about 10.05 square kilometres (3.88 sq mi), with a planned population of 445,000.[1] Major residential areas within the new town include Tsui Lam, Po Lam, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O Town Centre, Tiu Keng Leng (formerly known as Rennie's Mill) and Siu Chik Sha.
Administratively, the new town belongs to Sai Kung District in the southeastern New Territories, although it is often incorrectly regarded as part of Kowloon due to its close proximity to the city—the town is bordered by the urban township of Kwun Tong to its west.
Tseung Kwan O is located near the southeastern tip of the New Territories mainland, 9 to 12 km (5.6 to 7.5 mi) east-southeast from the Central District of Hong Kong.
The town is bounded on the south by the namesake Junk Bay, known as Tseung Kwan O (將軍澳) in Chinese. Most of the residential developments in the new town stand on land reclaimed from the bay. The mountains of Devil's Peak, Chiu Keng Wan Shan, Black Hill and Tai Sheung Tok form the new town's western boundary, where it borders Kwun Tong District of Kowloon. Lying to the north and southeast of the town are Razor Hill and High Junk Peak, which separate the new town from the rural parts of Sai Kung District.
The whole of Tseung Kwan O belongs to Sai Kung District, part of the New Territories. The town is, however, situated far away from other major population centres of the New Territories, and is instead in close proximity with Kwun Tong in Kowloon. While the town is entirely within the New Territories East geographical constituency, a number of governmental bodies and large corporations would, for the sake administrative convenience, classify Tseung Kwan O as part of Kowloon East, adding to the confusion of the town's residents. For example, the Hospital Authority places Tseung Kwan O under its Kowloon East Cluster,[3]. From 1992 to 2017 Tseung Kwan O had been policed under the Tseung Kwan O Division of the Kwun Tong Police District, and the upgraded Tseung Kwan O Police District still belongs to the Kowloon East Police Region.[4] It is under such a situation that the new town is often incorrectly referred to as part of Kowloon. This is illustrated by the fact that the two hotels in Tseung Kwan O are named Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East and Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong Kowloon East.'
