Waco Downtown Farmer's Market
The Waco Downtown Farmers Market officially kicked-off on Saturday, November 19, 2011. However, the Market did not magically appear over night. Many months – and even years – went into its planning and preparation. Starting in the winter months of 2010, numerous vendors and downtown business people assembled to discuss the creation of a farmers market in the downtown area – yet many current regulations prohibited the sale of meat, cheese, and eggs without the existence of electricity and refrigeration on-site. Thus the Waco Farmers Market Permit Ordinance was crafted by the City’s Planning Department and passed in the winter of 2011. Meanwhile, many other smaller markets formed across Waco but were not re-opened in 2011.
With the passage of the new Ordinance, another group of folks started to meet to re-discuss the idea of a Downtown Farmers Market. Planning and recruitment of new vendors found new vigor under the leadership of local farmer Terry Vanderpool, complemented by the community connections of Bethel Erickson-Bruce and the Heart of Texas Urban Gardening Coalition. Chris McGowan (Director of Urban Development at the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce), James Nelson (Community Banker), Frankie Beckwith, Sara Shoup, Paxton Dove (owner of Dancing Bear Pub, co-founder of Green Kitchen), and Malcolm Duncan (City Councilman) also joined forces and met weekly as the group formed the Waco Downtown Farmers Market Board.
Inside Waco's Multi-Million Dollar Downtown Development Project (March 1, 2017)
KCEN TV's Chris Roger's exclusive inside look at Waco's multi-million dollar development project. There is a lot of exciting things on the horizon for this city!
Waco, Texas, a city smack dab in the middle of the Lonestar State, famous for its storied history, beloved Baylor Bears, and of course, Chip and Joanna Gaines.
However, the face of the city is changing like never before. Thanks in part to a multi-million dollar downtown revitalization project, Waco Texas is looking to cement its place as a marquee destination.
The project was first proposed to the city council this past October, and for Paris Rutherford, Principal at Catalyst Urban Development, the Dallas based company behind the project, Waco offers a unique opportunity
Everything that we do is customized; its about the place we are in. This is a very big investment, it's on a scale that Waco hasn't seen yet. He says.
The project is broken down into three phases. The first will focus on adding 294 loft apartments and more than 10,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space to an already bustling waterfront area, while also transforming the popular downtown farmers market.
Waco mayor Kyle Deaver insists that despite a hefty price tag, this project is absolutely crucial for the city to continue to move in the right direction
I think we are already experiencing unprecedented growth in tourism and this can only help.
That momentum is thanks in a large part to the success of the Magnolia markets, a tourist destination that brings in people from across the country daily. City Manager Dale Fissler says Magnolia will serve as a good center point for the project to build around
This really continues the winning streak Waco has been on recently, and a lot of that is due to the Magnolia effect as we call it.
One of the projects underlying themes in connectivity, essentially creating a link between the Baylor campus, Mclane stadium and some of the other downtown hotspots. Developers say its about looking at Waco as one big picture, rather than multiple, separate, attractions.
You could be walking from a restaurant to the farmers market to a hotel and all along the way it's been thought through as you walk Says Rutherford.
Phase two and three will line the waterfront with an upscale boutique hotel along with food and music venues.
Developers say they hope to complete all three phases in a five year period, but it could take as long as eight, but by all accounts, the end result, will be worth the wait.

First Day of Fall 2018, PART II: Cameron Park (Waco, TX)
We spent our first day of Fall 2018 visiting Waco's Downtown Farmers Market (PART I) and playing at Cameron Park (PART II), which is just down the road from the market.
We love going to Cameron Park! It has great hiking trails, fun playgrounds, and gorgeous views! It was an overcast, cool day (that means 75 degrees for Texas 'yall)... a perfect welcome to Fall weather. We'll try to film another version later when the sun is out!
And maybe next time we'll wash our windshield and clear off the dashboard before filming, lol! We're YouTube newbies... learning as we go.
Be sure to visit cameronparkwaco.com and watch our PART I video! Link:

ChisholmCrossing.com: Suspension Bridge & Riverwalk - Waco, TX
Waco's Historic Suspension Bridge was the longest single-span suspension bridge west of the Mississippi when it was completed in 1870. The bridge was built with cable supplied by the John Roebling Co., who built the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. Crucial to traders and travelers for well over a century, the bridge stands as an icon of Waco history and is the centerpiece of many community festivals and events including the 4th on the Brazos celebration and Brazos Nights concerts.
The bridge is flanked by two great Waco parks — Indian Spring Park on the west side, and Martin Luther King, Jr. park on the east side.
The bridge also serves as a great venue for parties and special events. Rental information can be obtained by calling the City of Waco Parks & Recreation Dept. at (254) 750-8080.
The River Walk on the west side of the river extends from Ft. Fisher Park, past the Historic Suspension Bridge and continues for an additional 1-1/2 mile to the Herring Ave. bridge. The completion of the River Walk on the east bank of the river allows visitors to walk or jog the River Walk loop and enjoy the view from both sides of the river.
