WACO siege - WikiVidi Documentary
The Waco siege was the siege of a compound belonging to the Branch Davidians, carried out by American federal and Texas state law enforcement, as well as the U.S. military, between February 28 and April 19, 1993. The Branch Davidians were led by David Koresh and were headquartered at Mount Carmel Center ranch in the community of Axtell, Texas, 13 miles east-northeast of Waco. Suspecting the group of stockpiling illegal weapons, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms obtained a search warrant for the compound and arrest warrants for Koresh and a select few of the group's members. The incident began when the ATF attempted to raid the ranch. An intense gun battle erupted, resulting in the deaths of four government agents and six Branch Davidians. Upon the ATF's failure to raid the compound, a siege lasting 51 days was initiated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation . Eventually, the FBI launched an assault and initiated a tear gas attack in an attempt to force the Branch Davidia...

Congressional hearings into the Waco siege have been told by a top Republican that the lethal blaze was started inside the sect compound.
But another leading Republican on the committee claimed that President Clinton is trying to distance himself from the decisions that led to federal agents storming the Branch Davidians.
Attorney General Janet Reno appears before the hearings on Tuesday to testify about the decision to launch a tear-gas assault on the compound.
Some G-O-P panel members continue to accuse the F-B-I of having used excessive force to end the siege.
And co-chairman Bill Zeliff of New Hampshire opened Monday's hearing with the charge that President Clinton was trying to distance himself from the involvement in the Waco decision.
SOUNDBITE:
Frankly, the impression it leaves, rightly or wrongly, is that the president is distancing himself from the original March through April decision-making process. And I don't believe that further review is necessary and that we should be spending our time on this kind of oversight.

Zeliff's remarks drew a sharp response from the ranking Democrat on the panel investigating the 1993 Waco, Texas, siege. A fire at the Branch Davidian compound that left 81 cult members dead, including 22 children. Around 20 of the Davidians were found dead of gun shots.

There was not a shred of evidence there that the president did anything other than hear what the plan was and approve it.

Despite Zeliff's comments, his Republican co-chairman at the hearings appeared to take a softer stance.
Florida Republican Bill McCollum says evidence proves conclusively that the fire was started inside the compound by the Branch Davidians and not by the F-B-I.

And the film footage that we saw on Friday afternoon in these hearing rooms proved conclusively that the fires were not started by the FBI or anybody that was connected with law enforcement but rather had to have been started inside that compound.

The fire at the compound occurred several hours after a tank punched holes in the compound and inserted tear gas.
The man in charge of the F-B-I's hostage rescue team on the scene at Waco also testified Monday.

I'll remind the American people one more time that during that entire time those six hours and indeed those 51 days the FBI never fired one shot at the Davidians.

The hearings were expected to draw much attention Tuesday, when Attorney General Janet Reno testifies.
She'll be giving evidence about the decision to launch the final assault on the compound, which sparked the suicidal fire.

David Koresh knew how to manipulate people says child psychiatrist
In the days following the raid at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, David Koresh began releasing children – 21 in all. Child psychiatrist Dr. Bruce Perry was asked by the State of Texas to lead a multi-agency team to care for the children. Dr. Perry believes David Koresh was a master of manipulation, exerting complete control over not only the children, but also the adults living in the compound.
