Shagdog & Jammer hopped up with Widmer Brothers Hopside Down IPA Lager Rotator Series Beer.
Brewed by: Widmer Brothers Brewing Company Oregon, United States
We're turning things deliciously upside down with an aggressively hopped cold-fermented brew that brings together the clean crisp finish of a lager with the hoppy aroma and character of an IPA. PROST! To turning convention on its head.

1979 HOME BREWING LEGALIZED IN OREGON
Home brewing is legalized in Oregon. Having trouble finding beer in the U.S. that they like to drink, brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer begin making beer for themselves and their friends.
1984 KURT AND ROB QUIT THEIR JOBS
Tired of working for the man, Kurt and Rob decide to turn their hobby into a vocation, quit their jobs and cobble together a brewery. They scrounge up parts wherever they can, and build Widmer Brewing Company in an industrial part of NW Portland, what is now the Pearl District.
1984 WIDMER BREWING COMPANY OPENS
Widmer Brewing Company officially opens on April 2, 1984. They start by brewing Altbier, translated from German means old beer and a Weizenbier, their interpretation of a filtered wheat beer.
1986 DUBLIN PUB CREATES A BUZZ
The owner of the Dublin Pub, which carried the Altbier and Weizenbier and eager to expand his offerings, asks the Widmer brothers to make a third beer for him. The brewery only had two fermenters at the time, so to save space and time, they simply left the Weizenbier unfiltered and impressively cloudy, thus creating the first American-style Hefeweizen (literally meaning yeast wheat).
1986 Seasonal Pioneers
Widmer Brothers introduces Festbier, their interpretation of a classic Bavarian style Oktoberfest beer. Widmer Brothers were the first U.S. brewery to offer a full four-seasonal beer lineup.
1988 OREGON BREWER'S FESTIVAL
The Widmer Brothers, along with Bridgeport Ales and Portland Brewing Company, launch the Oregon Brewer's Festival. Today the OFB is attended by over 80 breweries and 70,000 people, Always the last full weekend in July.
1990 MOVING TO NORTH PORTLAND
Kurt and Rob move the brewery to its current location in North Portland, and rename the brewery Widmer Brothers Brewing Co.
1996 FIRST BOTTLING
After becoming the nation's largest draft-only brewery, Widmer Brothers beer is available in bottles for the first time .
1998 COLLABORATOR PROJECT
Widmer Brothers and the Oregon Brew Crew create the Collaborator project. Through this annual competition, different home brew recipes are chosen and produced in the pilot brewery at Widmer Brothers, giving everyone the chance to have their recipe brewed on a large scale.
2005 W' SERIES KICKS OFF
The W Brewmasters' Release Series from Widmer Brothers boasts a new beer every year. Built from the ground up by our hardworkin' brewmasters. Traditional, experimental, anything goes. Prost to trying new things!
2011 Widmer Brothers Today
Today, the Oregon Brewer's Festival is the largest outdoor craft beer festival in the country, drawing more than 70,000 attendees. To date, 31 recipes from the Collaborator Project have been chosen with some winning national awards, including a gold medal at Great American Beer Festival. Widmer Brothers history continues to write itself every day.

The Widmer Way review Beer Basics Chats with Jeff Alworth
The Widmer Way (How two brothers led Portland’s Craft Beer Revolution)
By
Jeff Alworth
“Portland, Oregon, didn't always have a wildly successful craft brew scene. Someone had to be daring enough to innovate, and the Widmer brothers were just the men for the job.”
“Written by Portland beer guru Jeff Alworth (The Beer Bible, Beer Tasting Tool Kit), The Widmer Way chronicles Kurt and Rob Widmer’s journey from humble homebrewers to craft beer pioneers and purveyors of the iconic Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen. Alworth also dives deep into Portland’s history, setting the scene for Widmer’s rise in the city now known for its exquisite beer.”
“Drawing from hours of interviews with Kurt and Rob, close family and friends, and big names in the beer industry, The Widmer Way offers an exclusive look into the Widmer brothers’ lives and their enormous impact on craft brewing in Portland and beyond. Alworth explores the Widmer family’s beer history, the brothers’ German influence, the brewery’s distribution deal with Anheuser-Busch, and the formation of the Craft Brew Alliance, one of the largest craft brewing companies in the United States.”
“Kurt and Rob Widmer have a deep affection for the city that fostered their success, providing sports team sponsorships, support for up-and-coming brewers, and hundreds of jobs for their community. The Widmer Way emphasizes this special relationship with a story that will resonate with Portland’s legion of beer aficionados as it illustrates how Portland became “Beervana.””

MERGE Widmer Brothers
MERGE heads to Widmer Brothers Brewery. Rob and Kurt Widmer show us how their dream of making beer became one of the biggest success stories in Portland, Oregon.
Portland-the Microbrew Capitol of the World
Presented on October 13, 1995
Kurt Widmer, Widmer Brewing; Fred Bowman, Portland Brewing; Irene Firmat, Full Sail Brewing; Jeff Frane, Beerstyles columnist, Brew Your Own magazine, moderator
Beer drinking in Portland used to be easy. You walked into a tavern and ordered Bud or Miller in a can or a bottle. Today, Portland's beer drinkers select from an array of delicious specialty beers, called microbrews.
The Portland-born microbrew industry is growing as quickly as customers will consume a pint. Companies are expanding their breweries, opening new pubs, and marketing their beers across the United States.
City Club members have the chance to learn about the current and future trends in microbrewing. Kurt Widmer, president and brewmaster at Widmer Brewing, Irene Firmat, Full Sail Brewing's personnel and financial officer, and Fred Bowman, vice president at Portland Brewing, will form a panel to discuss this popular industry. Jeff Frane, Beerstyles columnist for Brew Your Own magazine, will serve as a moderator to the panel. Join us for this informative program and discern what's brewing in this important new industry.

Widmer Brothers Drifter Pale Ale - The Spit or Swallow Beer Review
Shagdog & Jammer are drifting with Drifter Pale Ale by Widmer Brothers.
Brewed by: Widmer Brothers Brewing Company Oregon, United States
With its unique citrus character, smooth drinkability, and distinctive hop character, Drifter Pale Ale is truly an original. Brewed with generous amounts of Summit hops, a variety known for their intense citrus flavors and aromas, Drifter has a taste unique to the Pale Ale category. True to style, the bittering hops are perceptible enough to give the beer a crisp, clean, quenching finish, yet also soft enough to keep the beer smooth and balanced. 2006 GABF Silver Medal Winner

Travel Guide to Portland, Oregon l The Expeditioner
In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States.
I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti.
While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next portion of my video guide I give a tour of my crib to show what it's like to live and stay in a tiny house.
Then, in an effort to get a chance to experience the famed brunch scene in Portland, I stopped in at The Tin Shed Garden Cafe, located down the street from where I was staying in the New Alberta Arts District.
In the interest of learning more about food, I headed to the downtown location of the Portland Farmers Market, located in a beautiful stretch of downtown Portland. Here, I got a tour of the grounds with Mona Johnson, then had the opportunity to meet up with some of the vendors, including Matt Choi of Choi's Kimchi Company, and famed chef and artisanal pickle impresario, David Barber of Picklopolis and Bingo! Sandwiches.
In need of a little peace and serenity, I then visited the Lan Su Chinese Garden, a peaceful and beautiful oasis in an otherwise busy and hectic part of downtown.
When visiting Portland, there's no reason to spend all your time in the city, especially with so much to do outside the city limits. The next day I took a road trip with local Matthew Domingo to explore the Columbia River Gorge and the numerous trails and waterfalls just off the road you can check out.
Then, to wrap things up, we stopped in at Hood River Organic near the riverside town of Hood River, an organic orchard and farm run by East Coast ex-pat Dan Thall, who gave us a tour of his land. Once the day ended we then headed out to happy hour at Solera Brewery in the imposing shadow of Mount Hood and then into town for a dinner featuring mushroom pizza with mushrooms Dan had grown and recently delivered to the restaurant.
#1030 Red Hook Brewery | Long Hammer IPA 6.2%abv (American Craft Beer)
Brewery - Red Hook Brewery
Location - Seattle, Washington, America.
Beer - Long Hammer IPA
Style - American IPA
ABV - 6.2%

Reviewed on - 22nd November 2018.
Commercial Description - Redhook Long Hammer IPA is a West Coast classic. The generous addition of hops during the brewing and fermentation process gives our India Pale Ale its characteristic bitterness and piney citrus aroma and flavor. Piney aromas and citrus flavors come from a generous addition of hops during the boil and dry-hopping at the end of fermentation. Tracing its heritage from another Redhook classic beer, Ballard Bitter, Long Hammer IPA is one of America’s favorite IPAs and Seattle’s #1 local IPA.

Great Beers of the Pacific Northwest!
For about 6 months I drank only beers from Washington and Oregon (with the exception of one from Idaho, and a few from BC) and photographed them in order to show just how vast our beer selection is. There are about 70 local microbrew beers (some ciders also) in this video, showing a fraction of how many beers there are in our region. Many people are advocating for coffee becoming Washington state's official drink, even though it's not produced here, but obviously breweries and wineries dominate the northwest.
