Hong Kong 2019. Locals (English version)
Aloha, friends!
In this episode we have two cool heroes – happy newlyweds Drayko and Daisy. They were born, grew up and working in Hong Kong. However they have double feelings to this city. In an interview with the locals, they will sincerely and interestingly tell you why they love and hate Hong Kong.
First, we will meet 33-year-old Dreiko, product manager of an IT company, and take a stroll along an unusual street of sneakers in the Mancock district. And then we will go to see Drayko and Daisie’s apartments, situated in one of the newest and most expensive buildings in the Kowloon area.
▶ HOUSING IN HONG KONG
Just imagine, on the lower floors of a residential building there is a giant shopping center, and on the top – a gym and a swimming pool.
In the front door of his house, Draiko will show a special, almost magical tree that is putting up for the Chinese New Year, according to tradition. The one who goes around this plant three times will certainly have luck, and lonely people will surely meet their soul mates.
Draiko has already met the love of his life. He will introduce us to his beautiful wife Daisy. Newlyweds will make for us a room tour through their flat and tell us about the price of apartments in Hong Kong. Also guys will show how to optimize the space in a small studio.
▶ WORK
Our heroes will not only tell you how their life is arranged, but also admit why they always miss breakfast and how much they actually earn.
Caution – spoiler! They have pretty high salaries, but prices in Hong Kong are so high, so there is never enough. Asia is really expensive.
Work in Hong Kong is well paid, but it also drains much. Draiko is a product manager in the IT company, and Daisy is a banking supervisor. Guys often do some working tasks at home, sometimes work on weekends and save up for travel, like almost every family in Hong Kong.
▶ FAMILY AND TRADITIONS
We will also talk about family traditions followed by senior residents of Hongkong and how young spouses live now. You will find out why each month Drayko and Daisy give around 20% of their income to parents and how they are going to raise their children. Our heroes will also honestly answer who they are: Hong Kongers or Chinese and explain why many people avoid the topic of politics.
▶ FOOD
I will find out interesting facts about the culinary preferences of local people, get acquainted with street food and try, probably, the most stinky tofu on the planet – a dish with a disgusting smell. I swear, my eyes were tearing from that.
▶ RELIGION
During a walk through the city, Drayko will tell you about dominate religion in Hong Kong. He will tell about important temples for local residents, in particular, about that one which protects all drivers. You will also find out what kind of education in Hong Kong you need to get to live successful and prosperous life here.
Me and locals will show you the real life in Hong Kong, show you the mood, flavor and character of this amazing city. Let's go!

Tour guide shows visitors the darker side of Hong Kong
Hong Kong is known for its skyscrapers, vibrant shopping scene and breath-taking views of Victoria Harbour. But there's a darker side to this modern city. Soaring housing prices have pushed around 1 M of its population of 7 M people below the poverty line. Natalie Pang takes us on a tour of Hong Kong's underbelly.

Nanjing, China: Traveling for $20 A Day - Ep 20
We visit Nanjing, China to film the 20th episode of the Traveling for 20 Dollars a Day series. We ate tons of street food, hung out with locals, and thanks to Raven, my local friend and guide, we learned some local Nanjing dialect and uncovered hidden gems throughout the city. Also, Curtis is back!

We met at Zhongshan Wharf (中山码头) and took the ferry to Pukou District(the oldest district in Nanjing). After enjoying some outdoor shenanigans, we had breakfast at the legendary Daxi Wonton (大喜馄饨摊).
Later, we enjoyed a feast at Nanjing Dapaidang (南京大排档) on Hunan Road. In the afternoon, we walked around Xuanwu Lake (玄武湖) and caught a glimpse of the Ming Great Wall(明城墙).
Next, we ventured over to Yihe Road(颐和路), then visited Librairie Avant-Garde(先锋书店五台山店), one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world.
In the evening, we had an ocean-sized bowl of pig skin noodles at a family noodle shop, then headed over to Laoyang Cigarette Booth(老杨烟摊) for some fun times. We sipped beers, laughed lots, and lived like young rebels without a cause.
Finally, we made our way to the hostel, where we had a bunk bed waiting for us.
What an amazing day it was, and we did it all for less than $20USD!

CGTN held a group interview with locals and newcomers. Can they overcome their differences?
Sanya - China’s Florida, with warm weather and smog-free air - is a new home for many retirees from northern China. But the arrival of seasonal visitors has created problems for locals, including surging food prices and insufficient public facilities. Videos of clashes between local residents and newcomers have gone viral online, a serious concern for the island as it develops.

Hong Kong Street Food is what I came to Hong Kong for, and I was lucky enough to have Debbie Wong show me around the local stalls at a packed out alleyway in Central Hong Kong! This was a workers lunch, and we had some really tasty street noodles!
I came to Hong Kong with only one goal, to eat! Eat delicious food! I didn't really want to go for the classic dim sum, as I already had enough Dim Sum in Guangzhou, so I asked Debbie to show me around to a local street food area that was packed with locals eating street food. She took me to this shop in Central:
Wai Kee Congee Shop 威記粥店 address:G/F, 82 Stanley St., Central
I loved the atmosphere, all the stalls and vendors serving up hot food to hungry workers. The feel really made it all worth it! I would come back here to eat in a heartbeat!
