World War II Fire Control / Lookout Tower-Number 23, Cape May Point, New Jersey.
Hello, the final of three videos' on our little get away to Cape May. This one being on the Fire control / Lookout Tower , No. 23. The Fire Control Tower No. 23 is New Jersey's last remaining restorable World War II tower, part of the immense Harbor Defense of the Delaware system known as Fort Miles. Built in 1942, the tower was one of 15 towers that helped aim batteries of coastal artillery, stretching from North Wildwood, N.J. to Bethany Beach, DE. Four were in Cape May County, N.J.—the towers located in North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest were torn down and a third tower is located inside Cape May's Grand Hotel, Beach and Philadelphia avenues. Fire Control Tower No. 23 is on land now part of the Cape May Point State Park. The Fire Control Tower was built in June, 1942 by using a sliding tube-shaped form. A ring of reinforced concrete was poured. When that solidified, the form was slid up and more concrete was poured. The whole Tower was formed this way except for the top, which required a form of its own. The whole process took only two and a half days. I hope you enjoyed the video, watch in HD if you can. PLease add me to you friends list and subscribe. Thanks, Enginenut :-)

ABANDONED World War II Bunker
This week we explore Cape May, New Jersey. See an old abandoned World War II Bunker, a haunted lighthouse, a sunken concrete ship and more.
Cape May is located at the southern most tip of New Jersey and separates the Delaware River from the Atlantic Ocean. During World War II, it served as an important location for the US military. Two old military structures remain today - an old abandoned WW2 bunker and Fire Control Tower Number 23. The abandoned WWII bunker sits on the beach east of the Cape May Lighthouse at Cape May Point State Park. Fire Control Tower No. 23 is located adjacent to Sunset Beach and is open for tours.
Cape May Lighthouse is the third lighthouse to exist in Cape May and was built in 1859. It is rumored to be haunted by a woman wearing a white flowing gown who carries a lantern in one hand and a child in another. The lighthouse is open for tours. Walking up the 199 steps to the watch gallery is a MUST do when visiting Cape May. The views from up top are simply AMAZING!
Sunset Beach is THE place to be to watch the sunset when in Cape May, New Jersey. It is also the location where one can see the SS Atlantus, an old concrete ship which ran aground about 150 feet off shore close to a century ago. Although it's only a matter of time before this sunken wreck disappears under the ocean forever, it still can be seen clearly from the beach and definitely worth a stop.

Cape May Abandoned Bunker Cape May, New Jersey
Cape May Abandoned Bunker
Cape May, New Jersey
It was a nice and sunny May day out, so we ventured off south to Cape May and the abandoned Gun Battery to see what all the talk was about and if it really was haunted. We parked at the Cape May lighthouse and walked the footpath to the beach and then several hundred yards away we saw the bunker in the middle of the beach. Cue the calls of the seagulls, as we approached the bunker we saw that they sealed up all entrances and windows leaving no way to get into this beast of a structure. We took multiple pictures, surveyed the area and took note of anything that might have indicated the place was haunted. Well nothing turned up, but we were quite limited since we couldn't get in without a 20 foot ladder to get over the wall.
A marker found at the site explains: This bunker or gun emplacement was built in 1942. The round turrets on either side held 6 inch guns. The horseshoe-shaped structures which can be seen out in front at low tide are Panama Mounts. These were built in July, 1941, prior to the construction of the more permanent bunker, and held four 155mm coast artillery guns. A sister bunker stands across the bay in Lewes, Delaware. When built in 1942, the bunker was covered over with sod and stood on high ground 900 ft from the ocean. It is built of reinforced concrete. The roof and walls are 6 feet thick. Erosion and storms have washed away the land in front of and under the bunker. How long can the pilings (meant only to stabilize) support the bunker weighing thousands of tons?
We didn't detect any paranormal activity and didn't catch any orbs in our photos, but like noted, we couldn't get into the bunker, so who knows what may lurk inside of this structure.
