12FLY TV - Yangnim-dong Penguin Village, Gwangju
There is a small village with less than 0.68 km2 towards the southern part of Gwangju wide area city Yongnim-dong. There are a lot of stories to uncover here.
In the 1920s, as foreign missionary set up school and hospital, a village started to form. This small village experienced recent historical events like March 1 Independent Movement, Korean War and May 18 Democratic Uprising, etc. This little village retains traces of the past century. Other than that, Yongnim-dong is still an artistic village: There were many cultural artists born here. Now it becomes the place where young artists gather. So, walking in Yongnim-dong is not only a time travel, but also an art travel.

HOME! Gwangju, South Korea Travel Vlog/Video~!!!
Hi Everyone!
Welcome back to all those who are returning and welcome to all those who are new~
This video is the LAST part of the eight-part series I am doing on my trip to Asia: South Korea in Summer 2017 (if you would like to skip forward to the part of the trip, you can do so at 0:50!)
I know I missed both Wednesday & Saturday but no worries as 2018 will be filled with more timely videos~ haha! *besides this one as it couldn't upload before 2017 ended in time haha*
Anyways, I will put all of the places I went to down below!! If anyone has any questions or comments, feel free to let me know!~
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 21, 2017
--My aunt took my sister, my cousins, and I to Meta Provence (메타 프로방스) which is a nice, outdoor park that has beautifully colored buildings as well as really beautiful trees.
--We then went back to my aunt's place to grab some bingsoo nearby and to the outdoor playground.
July 22, 2017
--The next day we went to a nearby shopping center where all the students and kids hung out and shopped at (even did some karoke) at 충장로.
(not too sure what day we went, but we also went to a waterpark which was pretty fun as well as to 담양 한제골 which is a coffee place up on a hill which was really pretty~!)
July 27, 2017
--My mother and I woke up really early and went to Mudeungsan National park (무등산) and hiked up all the way to Rabbit's point where we got a really good view of Gwangju from a distant (there was even pure water running around the mountain so you only need to bring a water bottle)-got a really good work out in haha
--Afterwards, we went to Yangnim-dong Penguin village where we got to see pretty neat artwork made out of different materials (FREE).
--Then we walked a little bit to the 충장로 shopping center where my sister and cousin were at watching a movie haha
July 28, 2017
--My mom, cousin, aunt, sister and I went to a water festival 정남진 장흥 물 축재 which was a lot of fun hahaa (felt bad for california and other places that are in droughts)
July 29, 2017
--My whole family on my mom's side gathered to eat lunch at a nearby buffet! I wanted to treat all of them but my uncle ended up paying...
(between this lunch and us leaving, my mom left before us and my sister and I ended up watching Taxi Driver and going to shopping center again because my sister really wanted to buy more stuff but we ended up coming home late which was bad because my grandma was waiting for us and we had no way of contacting her...oops)
August 3, 2017
--The day finally came for us to go back to America. My sister was ecstatic while I was genuinely sad and did not want to go LOL. Even all of the plane situations didn't want us to go haha. From going from Gwangju to Seoul via bus, then having time to spare in the airport so we ate with my mom's friend, made a tiny table, met with my cousin who was going to go to Japan to see his girlfriend, got henna done; to having our flight delayed from San Fran to NJ so we had to transfer our flights and our bags but then our bags were on another flight and we had to wait until 3:30am at EWR airport to get them and we finally got home around 5:30am and didn't sleep until 6am..womp, there goes my sleeping schedule LOL)
Overall, I had an AMAZING time in Korea and would have loved to stay. I really had a blast spending time with my family and just loving on one another in a time of mourning. Until next time~
STAY TUNED UNTIL WEDNESDAY FOR MORE~!

(Gwangju) Go to the hottest tourist spots with Korean Tourmate Jehui
Yangrim-dong penguin village
- Chungjangro(downtown, sky park)
- 1913 Songjeong market.
I will take you to Gwangju’s hottest spots on a tour focused on photography and food. The first place is Penguin Village in Yangrimdong, named after the way elderly walk like penguins. This place is a great place to take pictures as a lot of people go there.
The next place is Chungjang-ro street in downtown. We will get a taxi to get there. I’ll introduce Sky Park(Hanul madang) located in ACC(Asia Culture Center), Chungjangro. Sky Park is beautiful at night because of the bright lights.
But I think it would be good to take pictures during the day(Your camera will love you). ACC has some events like flea market or sometimes even street performances. So you can see all of that or we can just rest and talk at a café if you would rather do that. There are a lot of things that you can see in downtown, Chungjangro. The last place is 1913 Songjeong Market. We will take a subway to get the market. Gwangju is known for its night markets and Songjeong Market is the oldest market as it has been running since 1913. If you walk through the market’s streets, you can see quite old school items, snacks, and stores.
Tteokgalbi(grilled short rib patties/Galbi is the rib meat and Tteok is rice cake, It’s the same way as making tteok but with meat, that’s why we call it tteok galbi and it is made of pork or beef.) is very famous there, so much so that some tteokgalbi restaurants are broadcasted on television. So maybe we can go eat tteokgalbi or other foods you want to try.
After having dinner, you can try any street foods as a snack if you want. This summarizes basically everything that you will experience for that day!

Hey~
It's been a while, but I'm back to share with you a a solo journey I took one weekend.
Balsan village was first home to factory workers as it was affordable. However, the decline of business, lead for the place to become vacant.
The Balsan village you see in this video was brought back to life by various artist who came along and colored the area with murals, once again breathing life into the desolate land!
Enjoy~

Vlog #1 - First 3 weeks in Korea
- 28 Feb, Before arriving CNU, I was greatly welcome by korean uncle who sat next to me in flight. He’s so kind that make my first impression towards korean people was so good. After safely arrived at Incheon International Airport, my friends and I have been welcomed by CNU's pick up team to greet us at the arrival hall.
- First and second week went by very fast as we are all hustling around and getting used to the new environment. Went to classes for the first time, meeting new people, going to new places and trying new food was really exciting. In one of my class which is Korean Traditional Music class, I got a chance to play korean musical intrument called jjangu.
- During weekend, my friends and I fulled our times for gain more new experience. We walk and take beautiful pictures around CNU. CNU are so big and beautiful ! Then, we went downtown near to CNU where we first eat bungeoppang. We also went to Lotte Department store and Lotte Culture Center.
- In second week, we went to Asia Culture center, Gwangju Art Street, Yangnimdong Penguin Village, Sajik Tower. We really have great memories here.
- Futhermore, my dormmates and I really have fun doing our ‘small welcome party’ in our dorm. We have meals together, exchange our foods that we brought from our country, have talks about ourselves and else. Although we may be from different country (Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and Korea) but there is no reason not to make a good relationship. There’s one quote “Become friends with people who aren’t your age. Hang out with people whose first language isn’t the same as yours. Get to know someone who doesn’t come from your social class. This is how you see the world, This is how you grow” I really grateful to meet this people.
- 16 Mar, I went to Gwangju Freecycle which was held once a year by GIC. I got so many stuffs that I need. Thankyou so much GIC. I really appreciate it.
- Photos and videos attached. Hope you enjoy. That’s all of my highlight during my 3 weeks in Korea. Looking forward to new experiences !

Discover Incheon's Hidden Charms
A major port city in South Korea, Incheon Metropolitan City has long served as a transportation hub by air and sea. It’s home to the country’s main airport and one of the world’s best, Incheon International Airport. Unbeknownst to many, Incheon has so many unique attractions you probably didn’t know existed.
1. Jjajangmyeon Museum
One of the staple food in South Korea, jjajangmyeon is noodles in black bean sauce that was introduced in 1905 by a Chinese immigrant from the Shandong Province. The Chinese restaurant they ran back then is now the Jjajangmyeon Museum. The museum aims to promote the historical as well as cultural values of the Korean-style Chinese dish. It’s open all year round and features the history of Chinese immigrants in South Korea and jjajangmyeon.
2. Wolmi Theme Park
Wolmi Theme Park was first opened in September 1992 as My Land, before it was remodeled and reopened under a new name in August 2009. Located on Wolmido Island, the park features various rides including the 70m high Hyper Shoot Drop, a two-storey Viking Ship, a 115m high Ferris Wheel, Tagada Disco and many more. Wolmi Theme Park gained more popularity after it appeared in various variety shows, dramas and music videos.
3. Heungryunsa Temple
Originally established during the Goryeo Dynasty, the temple was named Cheongnyangsa after the nearby mountain, Cheongnyangsan. Unfortunately, during the Japanese Invasion, the temple was lost to a fire and left desolate for over 300 years until a new temple was constructed in 1938. The temple boasts of a stunning view at any time of day, but it’s especially beautiful during the sunset.
4. Goryeosan Mountain
Steeped in folklore, it’s been said that in the year 416, a monk named Cheonchunguk found Oryeonji Pond when he climbed the mountain, where the five-coloured lotus flower blossomed. He picked the flower, blew it into the air, and then built a temple where each of the petals landed. All five temples were named according to the colour of the petal: Jeokseoksa Temple (red lotus), Baengnyeonsa Temple (white lotus), Cheongryeonsa Temple (blue lotus), Hwangryeonsa Temple (yellow lotus), and Heungnyeonsa Temple (black lotus).
5. Baedari Secondhand Book Alley
Prior to the establishment of Gyeongin Railroad, this alley was referred to as Ugakli Street and was the representative road to Seoul. There are about 10 bookstores in the area selling both secondhand and new books in a wide range of topics, from ancient Korean literature to modern lifestyles. Among the bookstores, the one that particularly stands out is Hanmi Bookstore which appeared in the popular drama, Goblin.
6. Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village
Bring out the kid in you at this fairy tale village in Incheon. There’s an explosion of colours everywhere you look, with beautiful murals, decorations and a variety of art installation that surely will bring you back to your childhood. From Korean folk tales to Disney Princesses, every surface and every corner of the village has been splashed with vibrant colours and no space is left untouched.
