Dartmoor is a moor in southern Devon, England. Protected by National Park status as Dartmoor National Park, it covers 954 km2 .The granite which forms the uplands dates from the Carboniferous Period of geological history. The moorland is capped with many exposed granite hilltops known as tors, providing habitats for Dartmoor wildlife. The highest point is High Willhays, 621 m above sea level. The entire area is rich in antiquities and archaeology. Dartmoor is managed by the Dartmoor National Park Authority, whose 22 members are drawn from Devon County Council, local district councils and Government. Perranporth is a medium-sized seaside resort town on the north coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is 1 mile east of the St Agnes Heritage Coastline, and around 8 miles south-west of Newquay. Perranporth and its 3 miles long beach face the Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of 3,066, and is the largest settlement in the civil parish of Perranzabuloe. It has an electoral ward in its own name, whose population was 4,270 in the 2011 census.The town's modern name comes from Porth Peran, the Cornish for the cove of Saint Piran, the patron saint of Cornwall. He founded St Piran's Oratory on Penhale Sands near Perranporth in the 7th century. Buried under sand for many centuries, it was unearthed in the 19th century.

England still has a few wild places like the Dartmoor National Park. The park is located in Devon on the southwest coast Once it was filled with trees but thousands of years ago the climate changed and so did the landscape. The moors are filled with the ruins of ancient stone age villages and stone circles. There is so much to see in Dartmoor from the wild ponies that make their home on the wind swept land to the rocky outcroppings called Tors that inspired the Hound of the Baskervilles.

Wild camping in Dartmoor National Park

Wild Camping for a night in Dartmoor National Park
In this episode we arrive in Dartmoor National Park. If you haven't been to Dartmoor then it's well worth a visit. It is one of the few places in the UK that you are allowed to wild camp (in a tent)

We found a wonderful place to park up for the night with great views over the park. There is lots of wildlife in the park and please make sure you drive with care as you will come across sheep, horses and cows walking across the roads.

We were honoured to have a young foal come and visit us in Trudy.
