Αιτωλικό. Η μικρή Βενετία της Ελλάδας.
Δέκα χιλιόμετρα από το Μεσολόγγι, ένα μικρό νησάκι καταμεσής της λιμνοθάλασσας φιλοξενεί το Αιτωλικό, μια νερένια πόλη. Με τη στεριά τη συνδέουν δύο πέτρινα γεφύρια με πολλές τοξωτές καμάρες. Τέσσερα - πέντε πολύ μικρά νησάκια στο κέντρο της λιμνοθάλασσας, ενώθηκαν με ξύλινα γεφυράκια από τους πρώτους ψαράδες που τα κατοίκησαν. Οι συνεχείς επιχωματώσεις, με τελευταία αυτή του 1972, διαμόρφωσαν τη σημερινή εικόνα.
Περιπλανηθείτε στα στενά σοκάκια, ανακαλύψτε την εκκλησία της Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου, στην οποία έγιναν οι πρώτες εθνοσυνελεύσεις των αντιπροσώπων της Ρούμελης, καθώς και η περιβόητη δίκη του Καραϊσκάκη και αφήστε για το τέλος το καλύτερο! Μουσείο Χαρακτικής της Βάσως Κατράκη. Τα έργα τής πιο σημαντικής ελληνίδας χαράκτριας, που μαζί με τον Μόραλη και το Τάσο αποτελούν τη χρυσή τρόϊκα της σύγχρονης ελληνικής χαρακτικής, φιλοξενούνται σε ένα σύγχρονο κτήριο που αφήνει τη σφραγίδα του σε όλο το νησάκι. Φεύγοντας πάρτε οπωσδήποτε μαζί σας το λεύκωμα με έργα της Κατράκη για να σας συντροφεύουν στην επιστροφή οι ψιλόλιγνες ανθρώπινες φιγούρες της.
Αν επισκεφτείτε το Αιτωλικό μην παραλείψετε να δοκιμάσετε Φρέσκα ψάρια, χέλια, πετάλια και το μοναδικό αυγοτάραχο που είναι διάσημο σε ολόκληρο τον κόσμο και αποτελεί μια ξεχωριστή γευστική εμπειρία ειδικά αν το απολαύσετε στα τοπικά μικρά ταβερνάκια και μεζεδοπωλεία της περιοχής που κατέχουν και της γνήσιες τοπικές σπεσιαλιτέ με αυτήν την εξαιρετική πρώτη ύλη.

Η Αράχωβα (ή Αράχοβα) είναι μία ορεινή κωμόπολη του Νομού Βοιωτίας χτισμένη στις νότιες πλαγιές του Παρνασσού σε υψόμετρο 968 μέτρων. Αποτελούσε έδρα του ομώνυμου δήμου μέχρι τα τέλη του ενώ με την εφαρμογή του προγράμματος Καλλικράτης εντάχθηκε στον νέο Δήμο Διστόμου-Αράχωβας-Αντίκυρας, του οποίου αποτελεί Δημοτική Ενότητα.
Αποτελεί δημοφιλές χειμερινό θέρετρο, χάρη στην ύπαρξη χιονοδρομικού κέντρου, (που τελευταία επεκτάθηκε και ανακαινίστηκε) και τη μικρή της απόσταση από την Αθήνα.
Η επικρατέστερη άποψη για την προέλευση της ονομασία της είναι πως προέρχεται από τη νοτιοσλαβική λέξη Οrechova που σημαίνει καρυδότοπος. Όμως υπάρχουν ακόμη δύο εκδοχές για την προέλευση της ονομασίας της. Σύμφωνα με την πρώτη, η περιοχή ήταν γνωστή στα χρόνια της Επανάστασης ως Ράχωβα, λέξη ελληνικής ρίζας, η οποία προέρχεται από το συνδυασμό ράχις και ωβάς, κι η οποία χρησιμοποιήθηκε για να δηλώσει την οικιστική ένωση κατοίκων που ζούσαν σε μικρότερα μορφώματα.
Η άλλη εκδοχή θέλει τη λέξη να προέρχεται από την ελληνική ράχις και τη σλαβική ova (τόπος), άρα Αράχωβα (Αράχοβα) = ραχότοπος
Arachova is a mountain town and a former municipality in the western part of Boeotia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is a municipal unit, part of the municipality Distomo-Arachova-Antikyra.
Its name is of South Slavic origin and denotes a place with walnut trees. It is a tourist destination due to its location in the mountains, its traditions and its proximity to Delphi.
Greek rebels under Georgios Karaiskakis defeated the Ottomans at the 1826 Battle of Arachova.
Arachova has a panoramic view, uphill small houses and the cobbled streets show a picturesque architecture. The town center includes a huge and steep cliff, the Bell Tower, covered with dense ivy. At the top of the tower is a large 10m height clock. Arachova is famous for its black wine, its brusque, the colorful textiles, carpets and rugs, handicrafts and woodcut creations as well.The Parnassos Ski Centre is situated to the north.
Ανεβαίνουμε στη μονή της Παναγίας στο Λιγοβίτσι και Μεσολόγγι | The monastery above Ozeros lake
Στη περιοχή Λιγοβίτσι, βρίσκεται η ιστορική Μονή της Κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου.
Σκαρφαλωμένη στο βουνό σε ένα πανέμορφο φυσικό τοπίο και με θέα τις λίμνες του Οζερού και της Αμβρακίας, το μοναστήρι της Παναγίας της Λιγοβιτσάνας είναι σε θέση να συγκινήσει τον επισκέπτη.
Η ιστορική σημασία της Μονής είναι σπουδαία, καθώς διαδραμάτισε σημαντικό ρόλο κατά την επανάσταση του 1821 αποτελώντας καταφύγιο και ορμητήριο για τον Καραϊσκάκη και τους άλλους Έλληνες οπλαρχηγούς.
Η Μονή συνεχίζει να κατέχει τη δεσποτική της θέση στη κορυφή του λόφου όπου την επισκέπτονται πολλοί προσκυνητές από όλη την Ελλάδα.
Ενισχύει, παρηγορεί, συμπαραστέκεται στους χριστιανούς της ευρύτερης περιοχής, που προστρέχουν στην Παναγία ικέτες και προσκυνητές. Οι αδελφές ασχολούνται και με την αγιογραφία, την ιερορραπτική και την πνευματική διακονία.
Μετά την επίσκεψη μας στη μονή συνεχίζουμε το μικρό road trip κάνοντας μια στάση στην Ιερή Πόλη του Μεσολογγίου με τη μεγάλη ιστορία.

Petron Lake, located near Aminteo in Macedonia, is set against the stunning backdrop of Mount Voras and Mount Vermio. The lake, as well as the nearby Lake Vegoritida, is a member of the NATURA 2000 protected areas. The two lakes are home to over a hundred species of birds, some of which are endangered. Near the lake are some sights worth seeing: the Agios Panteleimonas settlement, Petra town of the Hellenistic period and many Byzantine monuments. It is one of the most important wine growing areas in Greece from antiquity to present day and the vineyards are open to visitors.

Αitoloakarnania - Main Land
The entire area of Aetolia and Acarnania has been inhabited at least since the Paleolithic era, as evidence such us tools made of pyrites have been found mainly near the lakes and rivers. Life continued during the Neolithic era as well. The first contact of the Aetolian and the Acarnanian with central Greece was due to the strategic location of the area on the sea-route Corinth-Corfu-Italy.
Under these circumstances the area got great cultural influence from Corinth, which established several trading activities along the coastline. The Athenian General, Demosthenes, invaded Aetolia in 426 BC, while by the end of the war the Spartan king Agesilaos invaded Acarnania in 389 BC.
Through these events a great hatred was created between the two sides. After the death of Alexander in 323 BC., the Athenians and Aetolians rebelled against the Macedonians, known as the Lamiakos war, ending in the victory of the Macedonian and Antipater. Unfortunately, the discord of the Greeks, allowed the active involvement of the Romans. The opposition of the Aetolians to the Macedonian-friendly Acarnanians, led to the signing of the Aetolian-Roman Pact in 212 BC.
Aetoloacarnania was a part of the Byzantine Empire from the 4th to the 12th century AC. Approximately in 1450 the west part of Central Greece was dominated by the Turks. In 1460 the last fort of Aetolian mainland, Aggelokastro, also surrendered. The revolution of 1821 was late to reach Aetoloacarnania due to the presence of great Turkish forces in Giannena. On May 5th, captain Dimitrios Makris attacked the Turkish outpost. The revolution is hastened, and Mesolonghi up rises on May 20th 1821. In April 1825 Kioutachis army siege of the last fort of the Revolution of Central Greece. His army was later on reinforced by Ibrahim of Egypt. The fall of the city with the Exodus of its Guards on April 10th 1826, virtually extinguished the flame of the Revolution.
